- A closer look at my favorite of the Perth Mint gold coins - the 2020 Australian 1 oz Gold Double Dragon BU gold coin. I talk a bit about extravagant gold coins and how they fit in to a pragmatic stacking philosophy.

I did that with silver last night and had to put a sticker over it in my video 🤣 I always thought people were kidding when they said they almost face revealed but no. It’s like a straight up mirror 😳

I appreciate that. The pearl just happens to be a perfect mirror, and I had to re-film the whole thing since my face was right in the middle anytime I held the coin! The lighting wasn’t quite as good the second time! 😄

Awesome pickup! It’s hard to stay away from the numismatic stuff 100% of the time and if you can get a little at reasonable prices I’m all for it. That being said I still try to buy 10 pieces of bullion or more for every 1 numismatic/non-preferred bullion coin for my stack. In my case that’s basically anything other than a Gold Eagle or Buffalo.
That's exactly my ratio! 😁 I won't deviate beyond a 10:1 mix.

I love the Perth Mint, but this one is to "collector like" for me. BUT... low premiums are hard to not jump on. 👍
It’s too collector-like to me too. I started looking for this before buying the Britannia and the US Mint coin. Everything came together so well, I thought I had to have it! 😁

Nice piece. I enjoy some of the Perth stuff too. Lunar series is fun and breaks things up a little for me. Picking up eagles and maples gets boring.

The high premium wasn’t worth it to me. It felt $400 too expensive to me. Very nice coin, though!
@@2is1gold yes it definitely appeals to the collector in me. But I personally feel with the low mintage it will retain its value.
Maybe I'll bring it to the next coin show with me and see what I can do with it.

The Britannias are very nice including the Double Dragon. You should also check out 2019 Korean Gold Tiger by KOMSCO and the 2019 Gold Oak Leaf (500 mintage)
KOMSCO has some gorgeous coins. This one is probably as far from the common path as I'll stray, though. I like the stuff everyone knows!
The AGE design does leave a lot to be desired compared to what other mints offer, and it should have never been in circulation for 35 years. The best price that I can find locally for 1oz U.S. gold is spot +6%. That 2021 Brit is probably my next 1oz purchase, which can be found for less than a 4% premium.
Yeah, 3%-5% has always been the premium for Eagles here right up until May. I'm ready for that to calm back down.
I love dragons as well... just picked up the gold red dragon of wales queens beasts.

@@2is1gold my quarter ounce Eagle showed today, gold still dropping I picked up a bar Black Friday to make up the difference. But it seems to be in a free-fall so I'm going to wait a little see how far it drops. Although I found a 1903 liberty quarter ounce $5 gold coin put in an offer at 425 said she would think about it. @@2is1gold I definitely think you're right but I just found a deal on Marketplace for a 1903 $5 Liberty for 450 so I think I'm going to pick that up it has a nice gold bezel made for a necklace so comes with a little 14-karat gold on the side. I figured I couldn't pass this opportunity. And I'm going to let the gold prices at the bullion places drop before I order from them again. Cuz I heard about that as well and I 100% agree with you.

Perth Mint's Kangaroo coin is also a very good deal compared to Buffalo, way lower premium and WAY more beautiful design. that mirror-ish polished Queen face . better than a "proof level" Buffalo. Also, 2021 Britannia new design is amazing, I never have Britannia, I am thinking to get one next year. the US mint really needs to improve the detail of their design.
I hope the US Mint catches up with Eagle. We shall see!

Sound so much younger lol. The past couple of years has aged a lot of us.
Hate to say but after enjoying it this is one of those coins you have to flip if you can make $1,000 in profit. If you hold it for 20 years you're not going to get much more than spot and who knows where spot will be then.
If the opportunity is there, I'd take it. I don't know if this one has that potential, though.

I don't have any 5 nines gold, and very little 4 nines silver. That level of refinement doesn't seem to gain me much.

If I’m going to buy a 1 ounce coin shouldn’t I just buy the one closest to spot? Just asking.
It depends on a few things. I think you should start with the most liquid coins you can find. In the U.S., it's the American Gold Eagle followed by the Buffalos and then Maple Leafs, Krugerrands and Philharmonics. Britannias and Kangaroos are also popular. There are a few others like Sovereigns or 50 Pesos and maybe pre-33 coins. You'll be able to sell any of those coins easily, so you won't go wrong finding the deals in that bunch. Personally, I think there's enough benefit in the Eagle's added liquidity to stick with that one 9 times in 10, though, until you have a fair amount of them.
