Rest In Peace to the greatest to ever do it. Someone might manage to match him but no one will ever surpass him. I live in Chicago and when I was a kid, it was always a treat when I would be able to find a Dodger game on tv so I could listen to this man’s golden pipes.
Tell you what growing up in L.A back in the 80s we had Vin Scully and Chick Hearn , but every time I'm at the grocery store and see Farmer John's I hear Vin's voice, and will to the day I die.
Scully knew the value of allowing the crowd and player's reactions to speak for themselves. Unlike modern announcers, who don't seem to know when to shut up, *cough ESPN *cough*
The end of an era. A long, beautiful, glorious era. And I am a Giants fan. But I am also an announcer myself. I cannot convey even in a novel how much this man has influenced my work and love for announcing/sports. Heaven has gained a GOOD one. A GOOD one. RIP Vin.
Like everyone on this page, I grew up listening to Vinny and especially found comfort in his voice on a nightly long drive home to the San Gabriel Valley from work in LA. Loved that man!
For the first 56 years of my life, Vin Scully was the voice of the Dodgers. As a kid, I would go to Dodger Stadium with a transistor radio in hand so I could hear Vin describe what I was seeing with my own eyes. Vin’s words painted a better picture than anything I could ever see. Rest In Peace, Mr. Scully. You earned your place in heaven and in the presence of the Big Dodger In The Sky.
Sometimes silence is more powerful than speech. I love Vin because he knows this, and will be quiet and let the crowd speak for the moment. Vin is the best
Vin always knew exactly when his point was made, and he knew when his viewers and listeners knew what was up. And then he would just shut his mouth. That's one of the many things that made him a legend
Best announcer of all time. He made you feel like you were in the ball park when on the radio and his stories were the best. I am a Giants fan, but Vinny was the best.
You didn’f play the best part of the Gibson and Aaron calls. “In a year that has been some improbable the impossible has happened.” And, “what a marvelous moment for Atlanta, what a marvelous moment for the state of Georgia, what a marvelous moment for the country and the world. A black man is getting a standing ovation in the deep South.”
First time hearing Vin Scully that may surprise some but I can quickly catch on to the levels of respect and hard work this man attained in his lifetime. His voice is special, one of a kind and truly captivating but also humble, as he allows the crowd and players reaction to speak for themselves while also demanding you listen when you hear his voice.
I really respected that the Giants Organization and fans gave him such a great send off in his very last game in SF. As a Dodgers fan, thank you for that. It was a really classy move
I sadly never watched him call plays since I only recently starting watching MLB, but from what I can process with this video, is that he was a legend who called some of the greatest moments in MLB history. R.I.P Vin Scully. Though I never heard you call the MLB, you are still a legend and will be missed.🙏
Scully always called a smooth game. Letting the crowd roar and the pure emotion of the players create the atmosphere of the game. He always fed off the crowd and players in such a smooth way😮
One time they showed Adrian Gonzalez hit a homerun in slow motion and Scully had my favorite quote of all time “ that swing is so sweet , you can put it on a stack of pancakes “
Long live Vin Scully the iconic broadcaster for the Los Angeles dodgers who passed away at 94 years old. I think this brings me back to the days when I was living in Southern California and I was listening to Vin Scully on the radio. And on TV just listening to his voice made me feel better. And the bottom line was that Vin Scully did the right thing. He did what everybody wanted to do. Just be himself. And now there is a street right in front of dodgers stadium as a matter of fact that street is where dodgers stadium six. So basically now you can basically find the dodgers at 1000 Vin Scully avenue.
One of my favorite Vinnie moments...a so so middle of the week game vs the Seattle Mariners...At some point he kept saying Marlins instead of Mariners. Finally he humbly said that he has been saying Marlins instead of Mariners and for the rest of the game they will be the Seattle Marlins...I about died...lol...It was simply a great time to have a sunday afternoon baseball game and Mr. Scully calling it. Thank you for all the wonderful memories. God picked a winner.
"...and will celebrate on schedule" he knew at this point the magic had to happen. That last call shows he really felt something special was going to happen for his last home game.
@Star Scream You my friend are an idiot. If you think hockey is boring you probably lack the mental capacity to comprehend it. At any given moment of a hockey game there is a ton of stuff going on, and it all happens so fast. I hate when people say what you just said, because you literally have no idea what you are talking about. Hockey requires more of the viewers attention than any other major sport, and it's a great game. It's fast, it's violent, and incredibly complex. More people should attempt to understand it before they make such stupid comments about t hings they don't understand.
Vin Scully, Chick Hearn and Bob Miller: The Holy Trinity of sports broadcasters. Each were a master at their craft in their respective sport. Los Angeles teams had the greatest depth in pipes and passion behind the mic. An incredible legacy that can be repeated but NEVER duplicated.
We had the best and we knew it. To see people still filling the stands the last game Vinnie called at Dodger Stadium shows how much we knew the best was retiring. I was at the retirement celebration and that Stadium was full.
God how I miss Vin Scully. He know how to be quiet and let the crowd tell the tale. Best announcer there ever was. He is sorely missed today. These announcers now can’t shut up.
RIP to the greatest commentator in sports history, his voice reminds us of a time when things were different, when the world was a little less crazy, and the deep rooted passion of the great pastime of baseball in this beautiful country, and a time which feels long long ago.
Vin Scully God rest his soul since 1958 I was 4yrs Old listening to Vinny down through the yrs by radio only not too many games were televised listening to Vinny as a kid he taught me so much about the game of baseball Thank You Vinny
Loved it back in the 70s during one of the All Star games he called. Not sure which one but he said, referring to Al Dark and Catfish Hunter, when the manager took him out of the game, "So Dark figures that the Catfish is done, and he takes him off the griddle..." I still remember that nearly fifty years later. What a witty quip. Wish I could find it in one of these UA-cam uploads to watch the full game. 😕
Man, I'm trying to find which all star game... tried 1975, Hunter was on the AL Roster and Dark managed the AL. But Catfish did not play, at least according to my reseach
Oh, yeah, he called more than his fair share of Regular Season, and World Series Games, and not just for The Dodgers. He did some work for NBC's broadcasts, as well.

Mut445 I couldn't agree more. So many announcers today just can't shut up and let the crowed tell the story
Making the call, saying a little something more, and then letting the moment speak for itself.
SO well said, Agent!
100% true
Amen!!!!!
The end of an era. A long, beautiful, glorious era. And I am a Giants fan. But I am also an announcer myself. I cannot convey even in a novel how much this man has influenced my work and love for announcing/sports. Heaven has gained a GOOD one. A GOOD one. RIP Vin.

Then you must remember Vinnie's remark..."Candlestick Park is the box that Dodger Stadium came in"!
RIP to this absolute legend if an announcer. One of the best to ever do it in any sport
He will be greatly missed. Absolutely legendary!

For everything you've done for the Dodgers, I don't think anyone says it better than Bobby Crosby. Thank you, Vin Scully. I love you.
Thomas, you make me weep. I thank you. Sign me, a blue-from-birth Dodger fan.
Rest in peace legend. The greatest to ever do it.
Best announcer of all time. He made you feel like you were in the ball park when on the radio and his stories were the best. I am a Giants fan, but Vinny was the best.
Ernie Harwell is the only one close to Vinny.
Lifelong diehard Dodgers fan here. Respect to you for this comment!

Mo, Vinnie started out as a Giants fan. All respect to you.

Completely agree
"Hero's get remembered, but legends never die"
Like a grandpa reading a bedtime story that’s too captivating to fall asleep to, all with a baseball backdrop. Vin is in his own class.
Vin can tell any story, with the knowledge only the years give to you. With the same calm demeanor

this would be cool to watch
it’s a comment on the “vin scully calls every out from kershaw s no hitter”
Rest In Peace Vin. The very first broadcaster I’ve ever watched a game for, he truly encapsulated the true sound of baseball. Forever missed.
RIP to the man. Thank you Vin Scully. Icon. Legend.
Hearing his voice, you know the games was going to be an event. R.I.P Vin.
I don’t watch baseball much, but I saw a post about how he just died and figured I’d listen to some of these calls and man was he good
“Swung on and missed - a perfect game” RIP! Cmon - his greatest call ever! Listen to the entire 9th inning! Pure class - sculpt and Koufax!

Between Vin Scully and Chick Hearn, forever the voices of Los Angeles
And Bob Miller. Doesn't get enough credit, because Hockey isn't that big here. But he was great.
