As a kid, this felt like the signature ride of the park, even more than the Yankee Cannonball. Great memories of riding the ride, then rushing up the exit path to get hit by the splash from the next boat going down the drop. I will do any shoot-the-chute ride, regardless of weather, and it was probably because this was such a big attraction at my first regular park. It's a shame they look to be going out of style.

I had this big New England trip planned. With parks like SFNE, lake compounce, and other parks like storyland. Canobie lake park was one of my most anticipated too. COVID really messed things up

Loved this as a kid and then rushing over to get to the bridge before the next boat came down. It was a sad day when they Plexiglas the fence and closed it off all together

When I was young this ride was called the water chute and it was a major attraction at Belle Vue zoo and Gardens in Manchester U.K., in those days the drop wasn’t covered and the splash was just as big, I used to love riding this, you will be very lucky to find one in the U.K. these days.

@@CanobieCoasteryes at Blackpool pleasure beach, there is a log flume in Great Yarmouth that soaks you as well, it’s an ancient metal one with not high but steep drops into deep water, it was when we were there 4 years ago.

    It’s very funny
that little kids cry from being soaked on the bridges from these rides but I wasn’t that kind of kid I loved it

You know--I've been to Canobie countless times and never actually rode this! It just seems like a flume only less interesting, so whenever it was hot enough to be worth considering, the line would be too long for it to seem worthwhile. The theming around the area is great, though (basically Canobie's "Liberty Square"), and if you want to get soaked by this ride you can do it without actually going on the ride.

Man I remember going on this ride when I was like 8 years old and I hated it because of the drop. And then I would always avoid going on it the next time I went. And what is funny is the fact that I loved the corkscrew and it’s probably worse. But then when I went when I was 10 it was some time after I went to a park in Connecticut called Lake Compounce and rode all the scary rides there and had a blast I went on the Tea Party and said to myself “Man I was scared of this?”. And now whenever I go I’ll always go on the Boston Tea Party and always think back to when I was scared of it.

      Corkscrew's drop was definitely wilder.

If I can recall, it had no plastic cover at first, they added that later. Maybe you’re right. 1997 was the last time I went to the park when I was a teenager. I didn’t go back until Summer 2002 and that was when the star blaster was new. I think by this time they had the cover over the ride. Yeah, maybe 1997 was it. Yes, I think summer of 1997 it was there but it had no cover. I was 14 in 1998. I only went back twice since then. Summer 2002 and then 2003.

    • @CanobieCoaster

The plastic cover came early in the ride's life due to noise issues.

If you like the wave on this pls go ride tidal force at Hershey park. That thing had a monster wave. Also fun fact when it first opened the wave was so big it would knock people over so they had to build plexiglass window to help lol.

I do think that 'dry park' water rides still have a place in this world. It is a fact that water parks generally require a bit more planning to visit than normal amusement parks, and one cannot really visit a water park on a whim if the weather gets hot like you could on a log flume, shoot-the-chute, rapids etc.
I think the best solution going forward would be to have these types of water rides be integrated within water parks, and provide the option to ride in swimwear, which should restore the appeal to the majority of guests that refuse to ride because they don't want to get wet in their normal clothes. It would require the park to include their integrated water park, and would be hard/impossible for most existing water rides, since in this scenario, the water rides would basically be in (or at least next to) the water park itself. There is also the downside of having all your water rides in just one area, rather than spread around the park, which could result in the water park/ride area becoming rather congested if it gets hot (but maybe an emptier rest of the park for coaster nerds to get their repeat rides in?), but seems like the best way to maximise ridership on such rides.
