  • There's a reason only one of these rides was ever built! Today we're talking about what might be the craziest ride experience you can get on a roller coaster. Tornado operates with two settings: normal, and then boost mode. The normal version of this ride is pretty wild, but when you dial it up to boost mode? The ride gets INSANE!

They unfortunately don't do boost mode anymore. Due to the amount of accidents around the world, they're no longer allowed to.
I was told this in August this year by the same operator that gave you guys your boost mode. They hope to be allowed again by next year

One of the best rides of my life was at Mall of America on 'Fairly Odd Coaster', the park's SFF Gerstlauer spinner. There were two of us and ride op put us both on one side. The result was almost indescribable. I was convinced the bearing shaft was going to shear off. The ride op apologized on our way into the station saying that he screwed up, he was supposed to have us sit on opposite sides. I wanted to hug him.

Something similar is located at six flags st.louis, called pandemonium [ formerly Tony hawks 360]. Over the years, trimming has cut down substantially, sometimes to the point that you only hear braking for about a half a second in only one of the multiple spots. It whips around at an alleged 40+ miles per hour and spins constantly and quickly. Its great. It also doesn't have those substantial restraints, just a form fitting lap restraint.
It's marketed as a family coaster though and my 10 year old [ who is pretty good on any ride I've thrown her on] blacked out for half the ride. It is intense. And you need a little break afterwards. But we still hit it multiple times per visit lol

The craziest spinning I've ever experienced was on Dwervelwind with both of us sitting on the same side and nobody on the other, while hitting the corner perfectly. The spinning was so crazy, that I didn't comprehended a thing. My vision was blured and the head was pulled outward with quit a force.

See, this is what I've wanted for ages.
I've ridden Dwervelwind so many times but only a handfull of times were actually good spinning experiences.
Most of the times I ride that I don't even make one full circle, which is just kind of disappointing.
The ride itself is still really nice though, thankfull for on-ride music.

@@pikariocraftf2802 We were super lucky! It was our first day at the Toverland and our second ride on Dwervelwind. The first one was a little bit underwhelming, as the onride soundtrack didn't work that day and we didn't spin much. But the second ride was out of this world, even tho the sound didn't work neither.

Many yrs ago a friend bought a roller coaster game, he let me design one. The one I built was similar to this coaster. The difference was I had bigger drops and more of them and I had used a teacup as the car. I wish I was able to ride this!

This same ride/ ridesystem can be found at Praterpark in Vienna, I did it this summer, and loved the ride and the ridesystem. In my opinion more parcs should aquire one, great coaster, not sure about the 1 in Bakken, but it looks quite similar to the one in Prater. Hope your european journey will you bring you there too.

im from Denmark, and that chainlift PULLING you, like those hot wheels cars you dragged backwards - just this is crazy fast: and that drop is so cool but it is painful. I’ve tried boost mode twice, and I’m not seeking it again buuuut it was crazy. But it’s common knowledge that tornado is not a pleasant ride, like at all. It’s kinda normal if it hurts juuuuuust a little
I’ve also been stuck in the coaster, of course with 3 others, but it was at the “break area” right before the station, they break the cart, but it still spins, so we just span and span, but it was so fun. They of course stopped it and helped us out, but it was the funnest ride I’ve been stuck in

It is faster than 32 mph because the G's you're experiencing with the spin mode is probably equivalent to high speed

My experience in boost mode was even more messed up because I did not know about it either - nor did I request it. I went on it with my friend (we're both Danish) and we had fun in regular mode. The guy then offered us another ride (we paid per ride) because he said the ride needed maintenance - it was apparently going 'slower than usual' and he wanted us to tell him how it was going.

Tornado is one of the coasters, like I305, Do-Dodonpan and Eejanika where you should never even dare, to bring someone on it, for whom it is the first experience on a roller coaster. You should NEVER dare to it, because otherwise, you could honestly harm their first ride experience on a roller coaster forever.

Comet Express at Lotte World, Seoul, is also an Intamin spinning coaster. It’s not like Tornado, though…it’s more like an indoor space-themed spinning mine train. Still fun, nonetheless.

Yeah I believe they call that a twist n shout model? Either way that was a very short lived model in the 90's and not like most spinning coasters today. I mean Tornado also ain't like most spinning coasters but it still resembles an average one to an extent.

Try to ride it a couple of days after dislocating your shoulder (while still in a sling!)
It's probably a good thing that the roller coaster group I went with weren't aware of boost mode. (This was 9 years ago!)
