Sis, my Madea said, every mama will have a knee baby! That means there will always be one where you have to STAY on yo knees praying to whomever yo God is 😩😂🙌🏾🙌🏾 This program is amazing. I absolutely love teaching it and my son loves it as well. He goes and gets it and many times works through it prior to our time together. We use WOL as well so we rotate the two during the week. For example on Monday we begin with W&R and we typically work up to the Writing Section. Tuesday we work the rest and he begins work on his writing assignment. He usually has it done and edited by the end of the week. On Wednesday and Thursday we work through WOL. We complete lessons at our own pace but because he absolutely loves writing, he is just flying through it. I would say that although I know it says 3rd grade to start, I recommend when asked that it’s best at 4th grade. I lean heavily Classical in my style and I just can’t say enough about CAP. The connections that have been made by my child. The growth from him. He is writing his own speeches and stories and he is just blowing me away. I will be starting my youngest son this fall as well. As I’ve been planning out our upcoming year and looking through the IEW again, I’ve decided it’s still too much for him. This is one of the best reviews I’ve seen on this program and it has me sold! Thank you for your video! I have used IEW, The Lost Tools of Writing (older child), and Classical Writing in my homeschool. Writing and Rhetoric sounds really nice. I have become so enamored with the progymnasmata and how best to work through the exercises. I found Classical Writing cumbersome and unfortunately printed with the overused Papyrus font. W&R looks like a clean book, nicely laid out. I paused many times during your video to look at the pages you held up- thank you! It was so helpful. Plus, your winning personality made watching a delight. :-) Have you looked at other progymnasmata curriculum choices? I'm curious how you would compare them. Best wishes in your homeschool!

Is a separate grammar curriculum necessary, doing this in mid-elementary? This os a crazy combo, but I think my son and I would thrive on this and Rod & Staff English (which includes writing). I'd hate to miss either, but I don't want to overkill... He's a real natural in language arts, but I don't want to sell him short in instruction. That said, he knows his parts of speech well from Mad Libs... 😂 Classical content/Charlotte- Mason-hearted but that's overwhelming/accidentally fairly traditional (my kids love workbooks, and I love autopilot, what can I say?!)/pretend unschooling mama here. 😛
At this age or grade (3rd), it's not necessary at all. R&S is no joke. lol Very solid curriculum where your child will be putting in some work. If you use R&S and want to include W&R, I would skip the Copiousness and Sentence Play sections so you're not double dipping into grammar. When my oldest son started W&R, I had him skip all the grammar parts because he was solid in it. HTH

I liked the keyword outline and spirit of the program but my son thought it was “too bossy” 😂 always telling him what to do and how to do it. I still have the whole program. Might gift it to someone...
Hey Denise, it is Christian, BUT, the influence is barely noticeable or non-intrusive. I'm a secular homeschooler and I had no issues (YMMV). Don' be scared of the vocabulary! lol It is presented sparingly throughout the book and it is done through bite-sized pieces. Really...;)

It's Christian-lite BUT it's very understated with quotes that that relate to the fables or stories. I (nor my children) did not find it intrusive or preachy AT ALL. It's a VERY good writing program. Book 4 (Chreia) is all about Proverbs (We skipped Book 4 and didn't miss a beat with the next level). HTH

Hey MH, absolutely! Move at YOUR pace. I warped sped through books 1-3 with my oldest son. The world will still rotate. 😎

If you follow the schedule they provide you will get through two books a school year.
