QOTD - Do you use Writing & Rhetoric? If not, what writing curriculum do you use?

DIY for now, but trying to determine what's best between CAPs Writing & Rhetoric and WTMs Writing with Skill. I only planned to use IEW to fill a gap year if we end up choosing WWS for grade 5 but if W & R is betterthan IEW, we'll stick to that all the way through book 12.

Please do a video comparison of IEW and W&R since you've used both. Thank you!

This is the most info I have seen on this writing program. Thank you for sharing. Have you used any other levels?

On the comments you mentioned that you have used various levels of Writing and Rhetoric. Which levels have ypu done already? I wanted to know how difficult or easy was it for you to adapt the christian viewpoint presented in the books through the levels. Was it a difficulty for you. We are secular homeschoolers. And one of the youtubers who has used W&R level 1 said they had to discontinue the series even though they like it because of the lot of skewing they needed to do, as it is a religious curriculum.

In the first book… is it expected for the child to do all of the writing? Or is the dictation and copy work ok until your child is spelling more?

Yes, Book 1 requires the child to write. My child's spelling wasn't all that great at that age either, but I didn't focus on it all that much. I allow them to take a break between long written assignments if needed. If your child struggles overall with handwriting, you could consider scribing it for them.

Is the teacher guide a must or not ? Is this very open or go? or teachers intensive?

The teacher’s guide is exactly like the student workbook, but also includes: suggested answers, notes on the purpose of each lesson, dictation sentences, examples of responses for writing assignments, occasional extra teaching notes, and a rubric for classroom use. You can see images on the blog-

There is little to no preparation, so yes, I would call it Open & Go! With that being said, W&R isn’t designed for independent study, and the material does need to be presented by an adult.

Have you used any other books in the series? If so, are they mostly eurocentric? Thanks
