@@kendeng9828 The Walton/Bird story at 48:08 is brand new. I ALWAYS include something completely new in the compilations, specifically for the viewers who've been watching every video :)
I could be mistaken, but I don't believe McHale said that Bird put a hurting to them that game. He said Bird was the one who got them all riled up and told them to take that anger out on the opponent during the game when the couch came in. And then McHale proceeded to say "they" put a hurting to them. Which winning by 20 in a game during that time was pretty much a blowout. And it seems the whole team was motivated with how much they all participated in scoring, so his story makes sense. I just never took it as Bird was the one who did it, but more that it was a team effort out of mutual annoyance, exhaustion and anger. lol I could be mistaken though.
And his point wasn't even about the game as much as what made bird bird, as in he was so direct and honest but what a player. Dunks are nice for highlights but it's still only 2 points same as a layup.
I always felt the only chance Melo(Carmelo)had of ever getting to the Finals was the year Linsanity @(29:09)was going on, the Knicks were a much better team with him at the helm, unfortunately for Lin Melo didn't like sharing the spotlight and didn't like all the attention Jeremy was getting! It's just too bad, because when you watch the clips of that era you see the Knicks possibly taking Miami to 7 games if not further!!!
Maaaan youre a smart 🤓 💡 guy Jonny, way to go on these explanations and awesome 👍🏾😎 work on these deep dives. I knew there was a reason I was specifically signed up to your channel. Chicago Illinois rocks with this content 😎
I just gotta say in the story McHale told about bird and the hot dogs. He didn't state that Larry bird dominated just that "We" meaning the whole team went out and crushed them. So I think you might have mistook him saying the best story is birds response to everything and make a statement to an opponent that left him baffled before the game even started. But I love your videos!
But, if Keith Closs was still there it's theoretically possible Kareem could've been talking to him. They were both on the sideline so it makes sense. Closs didn't have to be in uniform to get pointers.
Pretty sure Kareem wasnt saying "how to beat Shaq." He was probably like, "heres a few desperation tips so you dont get embarrassed TOO badly. Worse comes to worse just hang on and dont let go. You know he cant shoot free throws..."
Mchale could’ve been talking about their physicality and aggressiveness. It makes more sense when he’s saying they went out there and kicked their butts.
13 makes is crazier. Which is why Shaq can't be at the top of any any all time center list. No other great center was taken out of games in crunch time.
3:53 its very much likely Mchale name dropped the wrong player and it was never Albert king who Larry bird trash talked to. Larry bird could probably correct mchale on the player it was and that would mean all the dots you were trying to connect was to the wrong player the whole time.
Soon. I'm working on the Ultimate Pistons video atm. Here are the teams left to do in the series... Pistons Raptors Rockets Spurs Suns Thunder Timberwolves Trail Blazers --- Warriors Wizards As soon as the Blazers are done, I'll upload the compilation WITH the Warriors and Wizards included as the brand new content.
The Boston former player did not say that Bird terrorized the Nets, but that the whole team did. Shaq did not say that the Clippers were any good, he sarcastically referred to them as "great" and everyone laughed, and he also joked about their center.
Lebron, powering his way through game 7 vs the Celtics. A 35 year old plays the whole game and 19 year old Tatum & 20 year old Brown don't have the energy to keep up with his "next gear". Sounds like that "Next Gear" is thanks to Testosterone Ethanate, Somatotropin, & Erythropoietin. Longevity!
These guys all cycle on gear... Pretty sure basic testosterone replacement therapy is even allowed. Something like 200 mg a week (a decent amount but not a ton) "if they are injured." Not sure what "injured" actually means because these guys are always hurt a little. Not sure if you actually have to be out of games or what. Obviously it's not official policy but apparently that's the case.
Ok Shaqs birthday game. I remember it well. Shaq was specifically going out to see how many points he could get on his birthday. This was from the absolute jump and leading up to the game it was the plan. Shaq just wasnt hitting at first but once the "candy man" was in foul trouble and the Lakers got it going and Shaq started feeling it he went off. The Lakers were playing different that night as they were intentionally dumping it into Shaq. I remember wanting to see him approach a hundred and thinking it may me be possible. Kobe Bryant is the only player I've ever seen who could have scored a hundred in a game...i remember saying this when he was like 5 years into his career and then we all know the rest is history. But Shaqs birthday game I realized how difficult it would be for Shaq to ever get close. The big fella would have to get up and down the court fast and have the ball dumped into him and score it like everytime and I realized because of this game that he could never do it. And this was against the smallest and weakest Clippers team. Still a dope team with Odom and Miles and Keith The Boss Closs and Q and Magette and Elton Brand from what I remember. But yeah Shaq was intentionally going out to score as many as he could on his birthday and the Laker teammates as well as Phil Jackson were in on that. Whatever scoring record Shaq was going to achieve would be on this birthday game. I remember being frustrated and worried early on thinking...ok...forget this plan...please dont lose to the Clippers and I could see Shaq forcing it and I was like damn imagine Shaq ending up with like 12 points on a Clippers loss on his birthday lol Nooooo!!!! But they turned it around and he dominated but still I always felt like he should have had even more especially because he was intentionally going out for it. If i remember correctly there was even buzz and talk about it in L.A. and on the news prior to the game even starting.

I have a fantasy football memory that I remember so clearly. I looked up on the data website and according to what I looked at, what I remember is not possible. Memory is a funny thing and maybe it's part similar to the Mandela syndrome. Mine involves being with my opponent and my stepbrother at a sports bar. My opponent had Dan Marino starting and I had Mark Clayton(his WR) and Bobby Humphrey(his RB, by his I mean Dan Marino) Bobby Humphrey scores making my lead grow into something huge and I am saying "it's over." He says, it's not over yet. I distinctly remember the Dolphins getting an interception really quick setting Miami up for another score. Next play, handoff to Bobby Humphrey who did a half-back option pass and hit Mark Clayton in the endzone. It makes a great and I really believe true story, but it appears on the data site that Bobby Humphrey never threw a TD pass in his short career. I guess it's just a strange mystery. I should ask both of my colleagues what they remember.
Lol, yeah. I think a lot of them flew under the radar for some people who enjoy the series, because each video had its own unique title. If I continue the series, I might start putting "Part 1" "Part 2" etc, in the titles.

Shaq also benefited from All the other centers in the league being kind of weak and most of the ones that were good were actually power forwards.. no one really mentions this but yeah his early career he played against some of the good centers but they were older and then at his mid and late to career. All the other good bigs were really PF
I somewhat agree. Idk if it's so much that the Centers were weak in the 2000s, but more so that the Centers were absurdly STRONG in the 90s. Since the 90s, the Center position has never been close to the overall strength it had in that era.
Well in the early 2000s, Mutombo was still a DPOY. Ben Wallace was an absolute defensive machine. Robinson was there, and then Duncan eventually moved to Center after Robinson left. I'll agree that the Center position was weak OFFENSIVELY, but I usually disagree with the narrative that Shaq took advantage of weak defensive Centers. He just made them LOOK weak.

You gotta understand that MJ was probably the only one of these player's who hasn't went back and watched this game before telling his story. Lol MJ will tell it by how he remembers it, not to sound cool. 😂 you should be accurate if telling a story, but at least the point was made. Similar enough to see his point was still valid. Without going back to look at the game.
Why would the anticipated match you between the knicks and the lakers be Kobe and Shumpert?? Iman was never a star player or hyped up prospect he was just a defensive guy. I hate that Shumpert got behind a mic and wants to forget he averaged 6 ppg in his “championship run”
That’s why. Bc he played good defense and it’s always a key matchup when a great defender is matched up against Kobe. Just look back at any game Kobe had against a good defender and you’ll see it was always hyped up.
Also shump always guarded the best players during those championship runs. So yeah him talking about it makes sense bc he was a key part of those runs. His job was to be a great defender and he did that more times than not.
This is a pretty dumb story compared to these but i was watching a few months ago JR Smith talk about his rookie year gusrding kobe on JJs podcast and i couldn't find anything on UA-cam about the game, just want to see how true it is... He said rookie year hes gotta guard kobe, going into the game his coach is telling him, "this is how you guard him, he gonna pump fake, pump fake again.. you stay down, don't leave your feet" jr like barely listening, i get it... Later at shoot around hey remember don't jump at his pump fake.. JR like OK MAN I GOT IT.. coach goes ok you got it, fine, if you jump im taking you out the game... So game starts.. JR checks in, says like "JJ when i tell you i havent been in the game not 30 seconds... kobe drives, pump fakes, JR jumps, kobe gets the bump, whistle blows, and-1, Horn sounds, gets subbed out.... It was a while ago so its loosely translated from me from JR and its not the greatest nba story but if you could find the footage i think itd be hilarious to see JR get subbed in then get subbed out like 30 seconds later lol

I hate to break it to you, pal, but his name is still Peter Chilcutt. Do you get triggered when someone says Shaquille O’Neal instead of Shaq, or Stephen Curry instead of Steph Curry? 😂
Iman’s story about Kobe was about KOBE…why is he trying to make SOMEONE ELSE’S personal experience about Jeremy Lin?! Shumpert was reminiscing on a MOMENT, not trying to analyze the actual game play by play…these are great stories, but every one doesn’t need correction, the details aren’t even the point of the stories

Lol MJ will tell it by how he remembers it, not to sound cool. 😂 you should be accurate if telling a story, but at least the point was made. Similar enough to see his point was still valid. Without going back to look at the game.
Would you remember the score of a specific game from 20+ years ago detail by detail? Come on now...
Phil Jackson would have took the laker big 4 to the title.
He didn’t say bird killed them he said the Celtics killed them
If Shaq hit his freethrows he couldve avergaged 40 easily.
The Shaq story he literally said in one of the videos that you showed that it was in the year 2000 against the clippers lmao
Red hulk eh?
A NBA fan, and/or their family, would likely see Jordan in action than LeBron. That is the value of your hard earned money.
It was a while ago so its loosely translated from me from JR and its not the greatest nba story but if you could find the footage i think itd be hilarious to see JR get subbed in then get subbed out like 30 seconds later lol
yea you were right "pretty dumb"
Bro people talk up Kobe for walking the length of the court with a torn Achilles like it’s superhuman. I tore mine completely walked 3 miles home partially up a huge hill and I’m just a guy lol
@@nickgibson3451 mine was a complete tear I turned my sideways and put all weight on heel. Nice try though dumbass
@@nickgibson3451 no ones putting themselves on a pedestal only saying no reason to put him on one idiot
@@nickgibson3451 like how tf do you gloss over I tore mine completely from the original statement. And they never say grade 1 2 or 3 except in sports. They simply tell you that you have an acute rupture of the Achilles tendon
@@nickgibson3451 you can’t put weight on your toes but you can turn your toes out and put all weight on heel. Cracks me up how dumb ppl are, like how tf do you get mines not that bad when I told you it was torn completely as in detached or acute rupture of the Achilles tendon if you want what ur doc will tell u
If anything Kobe was who was putting weight on his toes since didn’t see him walking like a duck
Kobe hit em up
Pippen sounds as if he'd like the last dance to only be about his highlights.......Jordan, divulged things that didn't put him in a good light......it was from his perspective......... get over it
@1:31:50 That kind of defense is what people say :"The 80s-90s were so much better".
Everyone is a cone.
@@joshmedici This is what all of you past basketball haters do. Cherry pick lowlights and assume that was defense of the whole era. Half the best defenders of all time played in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Gary Payton, Sidney Moncrief, Joe Dumars, and Dikembe Mutombo are some of the best defenders of all time at their positions and played during the Jordan era. You need to shut the hell up bro
Your an obvious kobe fan
how does this hve 9 dislikes🤦♂
Shaq literally says “2000” and this dude is acting like he solved a huge mystery🤣
It’s Pete Chilcutt. I would expect someone who learned everything they know about basketball from a book to call him Peter.
I hate to break it to you, pal, but his name is still Peter Chilcutt. Do you get triggered when someone says Shaquille O’Neal instead of Shaq, or Stephen Curry instead of Steph Curry? 😂
@@jonnyarnettI’m not sure why this guy is triggered but don’t act like you knew he was known as Pete. 😂
Mitch kupchick is a fool
Iman’s story about Kobe was about KOBE…why is he trying to make SOMEONE ELSE’S personal experience about Jeremy Lin?! Shumpert was reminiscing on a MOMENT, not trying to analyze the actual game play by play…these are great stories, but every one doesn’t need correction, the details aren’t even the point of the stories
