Finally a method to break bedrock upwards! That's super useful for end gateways. If you break the bedrock below the portal block you can water elevator directly into the portal!
Thats actually a pretty cool concept. But i though you can break end gateway bedrock with end crystals?

I was VERY impressed when Mumbo just destroyed a bedrock block so easily whit just a single tnt block, so i came to this video and I’m even more impressed by all this work, good job guys !! Immediately subscribed

I used 2:27! After practicing for a bit in creative I got a break my first try in survival :)
Step by step: Put down the nether rack, trapdoor, torches and lever first. Put the lever in the down position which will put the trapdoor down. Place the piston and it will extend automatically. Right click on the trapdoor to put it up, then move the lever up and the piston will stay extended. Put a tnt two blocks out from the end torch. In your item bar, put piston next to flint and steel for easy switching. Activate the tnt with flint and steel then QUICKLY swap to piston in your hand, crouch next to trapdoor, and shift+spam right click the edge of the trapdoor. Three things can happen - piston breaks and you must try again, piston is facing down (didn't break the bedrock), piston is facing forward (DID break the bedrock!).

@@LineKlein Strange o.O Anytime I got the piston to face forward, the bedrock underneath was broken. The hardest part for me is spamming the right click really fast. That can cause failures if not done right.

@@kmidst_vg2996 okay thank you very much. I gave the info to our admin. He thinks it may be a server problem. as someone mentioned above in comments some servers have disabled bedrock breaking :) you really helped me tho I was starting to loose my mind xD

Just did it on 1.16.1 java. Easy to fail, but easily doable. Used the build at 9:30.
- used obsidian, dunno if it helped, but at least the block doesn't get destroyed when you fail ;)
- managed with mouse, it worked
- changed the binding for place block to a keyboard key, kept the key pressed, worked on the first attempt
I just did it...didn't work. The piston placed as it should but still no bedrock broken below it

@@Eclipsedenoche well, it worked twice and failed like 20 times. If I didn't have these two broken bedrock bits next to me, I wouldn't trust it :)
This is what worked for me, also. Changing the blocks to obsidian kept me alive. Using only stone resulted in destroyed stone, dead player, and no destroyed bedrock. In my few attempts, anyway. Once I switched to obsidian, stayed alive, and worked first try.

Update: Updated to Snapshot 20w12a and i dont think it works. My pistons have faced the tnt twice now and bedrock doesnt break. I didnt see anything in change log though.

If u put two redstone blocks over the piston to powee and remove them the piston is still powerd
instead of spamming i switched my right click to space so when i hold space it clicks super fast and it worked every single time

I find even the 100% reliable way hard for me. I keep being too slow to get to my spot and start right clicking.
you could also use an auto clicker on right click. If your problem is actually getting to the spot, then that comes with practice.
Java 1.16.1. I tried a few of these versions in a test world, but not all of them worked for me, maybe I did something wrong. Finally, I used the trick at 2:23, which is not 100%, but it's hard to do in wrong way. I gave it a try on my survival server, and It worked on the second try! Still I'm glad with it, thank you!
I am in awe how much time and effort you spent analyzing the code and figure out such neat tricks...
if you are having trouble in the latest snapshot, try aiming at the corner of the obsidian and the stone part of the piston (top and farthest corner of the obsidian from you). That will place the piston facing towards you, breaking the bedrock. Spam right click. Worked for me. You can also use autoclicker like autohotkey to do a right click every 25 milliseconds to place the piston every time. I think the main reason this method fails is because you could not place the piston at the precise window

this is plain and simply awesome.
Bedrock breaking was always an issue for a lot of people, and ever since the dragon egg method stopped working, it's been unrelyable, or needed a rather bulky setup even for a single block. This way, you can get it done fast and easy, all you need as extra is some food to regenerate lost health.
Annddd a lot of patience because it doesn't work the first try every time
Still works in the official 1.16 release. Some of the methods gave me trouble, but the one at 6:02 worked first try.

Thank you man! I can confirm that it still works in 1.16.5, I did this on a personal community server. We also only started out a few days ago, but plan on going big, want to do some world tours and what not.

Edit: For those wondering, I used the technique showcased at 7:00 and if you want to get the most probability of it actually to work, use an autoclicker set to every 100 miliseconds for right-mouse button!

For anyone still struggling, use the 8:57 method.
Here are two more steps that will insure success:
1) in controls, change your "Use Item/Place Block" command to either the b or v key AFTER you compress yourself with the trapdoor.
2) now go and flip the lever by pressing b or v (which ever you choose) and move to the other side.
3) look at the upmost corner of the obsidian, (this is what changed my success rate) while holding your key down (piston in hand obvi)
it should work... I was messing around with it in a creative world to avoid death and enderperal usage in survival. I found that by looking more towards the corner of the obsidian block (base block) gave me a much higher success rate.

Just tried the second example with the lever, the time that it worked, to a T with the torches, tnt placement and everything, and it worked on the first try. Incredibly lucky I guess. 1.16.2 on a server. Never would've done it without you guys, bravo! And Thanks!
If you are having trouble what fixed it for me was using a macro to continuously press right mouse button with a 0.002 second delay, it had 100% reliability for me.
If you get problems placing the piston in time, change your controlls from right mousebutton to a key on your keyboard, it worked for me first time after changing

Trying the method at 9:00 in 1.19.4, it was inconsistent using cobbled deepslate but obsidian made it work every time

Thank you for this very helpful video, I'm playing on an Amplified solo server and have used this successfully to consistently get to the roof of the nether. I have a bit of information: I used the method at around 9:00 and on the most recent snapshot too, 1.16 20w28a I used obsidian though.

I don't know how, but I'm pretty sure we can make a flying bedrock remover using netherite blocks that can't be exploded to move the machine safely

Is it possible using end crystals?, I'm playing on a server that disables TNT explosions but not crystal explosions

@@godlikefish1193 yes do the same thing as shown in the video except instead of igniting tnt replace the tnt with end crystals and the activation is dispensers shooting them, make sure it has the correct sub-tick order though.

Is anyone else having trouble with this on 1.15.2? None of the methods are working making me think the spam click isn’t working for me
I'm currently trying to use a piston/slime block bouncing elevator to get onto the nether roof more easily, but the problem is a lot of bedrock in the way at the ceiling. Having an upward breaking method is what I'm currently searching for now, and so a good usage of it is breaking a couple individual bedrock bits at the start of the bedrock ceiling, so that you have more room to build!

The method at 2:18 is working in 1.16.5 Java edition (18 Jan 2021)
I just broke a 3x3 hole with only 9 TNT, no failed attempts.
I'm putting a 4-block obsidian alcove around the TNT (left, right, behind, above), and spam clicking the piston by reassigning and holding down a keyboard button instead of using mouse clicks, which seems to be making it a lot more reliable.
got 8:57 working 100% reliably on 1.16.1, but only after swapping the cobble for obsidian. also took zero damage from it.
Thanks for this, I've been trying for hours with various methods including the one at 8:57 but with cobblestone and it just wasn't happening, switched to obsidian like you said and got it first try.

The cut at 9:11 to a time it actually worked. So many of these methods do not work even after spending a solid 10min on each one

Now I manage to break bedrock around half the time, which is good enough !

I'm run a small Spigot server. I could not get the final method (seen at 9:30) to work at all.
However, the method from 7:00 works just fine! Seems to be directionally dependent though (works when facing East/West) but 100% reliable. Great stuff!
I found your tricks as a solution to make it more reliable but still not 100% (even on vanilla). Yes it works a lot more often (may be 80-90%), but sometimes I still see piston placed upside down at the result. I also found that you should not move (you may rotate still) after holding keyboard button to right click, because after that it stops spamming too well. You may check this spamming on lever.
I have not been able to get a single one of these to work, am I spamming the piston wrong??

20w22a, got it to work once after ~40 tries. Edit: Worked first time once i removed the block under it.
I used the last example, but used endstone top slab behind trap door so I could flip the lever while already laying down, also did keyboard rebinding.. Worked great.

for the second one, how did you get the piston to stay extended?
ok so i did this one (it worked) i have no idea how it stays like that but usually after the lever was down, the trapdoor was up, and i had placed at least one torch it just extended
It’s BUD mechanics. If you place the block with the lever diagonally to the piston, with no blocks underneath. Flip the lever, then place a block underneath. Now, if you break the lever, the piston should stay activated.

I'm not very knowledgeable about Minecraft outside of vids I've seen, but it should be doable on a Realms server.
Source: I'm playing on a Realms server that has been at default settings, and we had someone go up to the Nether roof to set up our Portal network for easy travel.

I have tried the sure fire using redstone repeaters and can't get that to work in 1.15.2 so you're not alone

Hey you two, I’m on a 1.15.2 smp server and was having trouble using one of the “compact 100% reliable” designs, I couldn’t get it to work. I tried one of the “less reliable” ones (cheatercodes first design showed in the video, the one with torches surrounding the piston head @ 2:48 ) and it worked the first time I tried. Hopefully it helps, good luck to both of you.

I've been in a creative world for about an hour now and none of these work... (20w12a)
the first one worked one time for me edit: two times
If u r using normal blocks try replace them with obsidian (non blast proof block)

You touched on it, but needs more explanation:
This works due to the game not realising that the piston block has indeed changed, due to timing of the block update.
So the piston is destroyed, in the extended state, but the removal of power makes the piston retract. But when placing a piston, it's initially retracted. How do you retract and already retracted piston?
Weirdness ensues, and the wrong block is replaced with an air block (the block that would replace the extended piston head.
3:03 But that lever powers the trapdoor not the piston. What?

@goodman 599 man I miss the old console edition it had the same Redstone mechanics as java but now I have to play on bedrock and I hate the Redstone sucks no budpowering or one tick pulse so no as easy t flip flop
Jojotrashbagins one tick pulses exist, they just don’t have the interaction with sticky pistons on bedrock

Does this work on Paper servers? I have tried like 8 times on the reliable versions and I can’t get it to work

You need to edit paper.yml, and set allow-perm-block-break-exploits to true.
There is a simple way to make the unreliable version virtually 100% reliable which is to set your right click mouse button to a key so it's spammed, and so far it has worked every time for me

I was witching the stream and in the beginning of the stream I had an idea that was just same as the finale design and I sad that I had an idea on stream and on minecraft and you didn't listen to me ☹️
instead of spam clicking try binding "place block" to a key on your keyboard. Holding down the key instead of spam clicking seems to work much better for me.
These do not work anymore. I tried each one of them dozens of times each with a 50 click per second macro (also tried slower/faster) not a single instance of bedrock breaking. Java edition 1.15.2 You need to update your title to only 1.14 (which when downpatching to that version these work 100% of the time.)
just wasted my 35 tnt i had in survival trying this and then just coming to the conclusion that im bad but thx actually testing it

Thank you for this (especially the breaking upwards). I generally do not like using exploits (eg; bedrock breaking, duping etc) but I had build a beacon housing area in the nether... just to find out 1 of the 6 beacons had a hidden block I couldn't reach... But, thanks to this I could :) Thanks, as always, Ray (and team)

1 block is fine, but I went through 6 stacks of TNT and several hours just to make a big hole. I'm going to bed now
