Hi There I know lot of People are finding difficult to Descale the Cloth Mesh as it has Simulation, But you can do this simple trick, Put the cloth that have the cloth sim to a new Collection, and then add a Collection instance to add the Collect as an object and then you can descale it. and If you want to simulate the cloth in that same small size you can do it too, Just go to your Collision object's Physics Tab and Reduce the Collision Inner and Outher thickness to approx 0.01,
Another quick tip for people struggling with cloth sims, you can add weight groups to properties of the cloth sim. a weight group for the bending stiffness for example, will make the cloth less bendy on parts of the vertex group with high values. this is also super useful to get creases and folds in exactly the right area of the mesh, making the fabric less rigid around joints can help to make a more pleasing result. the properties of the cloth sim are: The tension property is how stretchy a cloth can be think of elasticated yoga pants, these have high stretchiness whereas leather has a very low stretchiness, compression is how easy it is to squash a material into itself, it is the opposite of tension, high compression is seen in stiff materials such as very stiff denim shearing is how much a face can be distorted perpendicular to its normal axis, paper has an extremely high shearing property as it cannot be skewed easily, nylon stockings have a super low shearing resistance. bending is how sharp an angle can be between two edges across a vertex before the bend is propagated through to the next vertex - edge connection, thick leather has a high bending resistance, silk has a very low bending resistance. the "internal springs" settings add another level of simulation wherein when starting a bake vertices are each given many imaginary edges to surrounding vertices, depending on spring creation length, this helps stability with very stiff materials and non fabric uses such as what could be considered solid materials like plastic, metal, ect. internal springs are effectively triangulating the verts in the mesh to surrounding verts and using their own properties to maintain shape. the "pressure" settings are used to create inflatable objects, or objects deflating, great for quickly modelling balloons, cushions, pillows, things of this nature, where the air pressure inside is different from the outside. I believe if your mesh has a hole or more accurately, non manifold edges, the simulation will effectively fill the holes before continuing (this is done with imaginary geometry the user never sees). the "shape" settings are used to change the overall shape of a mesh after is is formed, this is great for effectively sewing a clothing item around a mesh at the start of a bake and takes a little setting up to get right. ua-cam.com/video/7h89tkUJLuM/v-deo.html here is a quick look at how this is done.
I've been using blender for over 10 years, but I just have to say that this is the best character cloth simulation tutorial I've ever come across. Thanks for sharing
Omg this is so perfect timing that I thought it was the UA-cam algorithm. I have to make a cloth simulation for a job and I've been searching all day yesterday with no luck. Now the best blender artist out there uploads this
Best clothing simulation I've found. Thank you, thank you thank you. I have watched a dozen or more tutorials on cloth simulation with horrible results. I almost didn't watch this one as I was ready to give up and change my characters clothing. First attempt it worked perfectly. Now I might add another layer to her outfit.
Your first tip is literally the best tip I've heard. You have to scale your models up. I've tried cloth simulations several times over the years and not once did any tutorial say that.
Omg I've been using some of these techniques in cloth sims for years but I've never though to simply scale up the sim to make it easier. I feel so dumb now lol Thanks for the tutorial. It's been very helpful.
Great tutorial, love that you show the results of the intermediary steps before showing the final result, this helps create a much better intuition of what each setting does
for a a whole month working on cloth simulation thank you for the sharing your knowledge never knew that the size would ever effect the simulation i saw a lot of tutorial but surely this is the best of them thank you,
I was searcing some good lessons about how to do cloth sim about TWO MOUNTH! You saved not only me, if read comments) Good luck, and God Bless You! Thank you for sharing your knowledges!
Thank you, very good tutorial. I liked very much the mannequin model. Simple yet very well made. Could you make a video with general guidelines for that?
Very informative. Never messed up with collision or cloth simulation. I have really appreciated your editings efforts in doing a side by side comparison of settings and viewport at 9:47
Amazing tutorial! Straight to the point, no bullshit, good info, perfect examples, nice real time problem solving and thoughts! 10/10! Gonna recommend this tutorial to my Uni class!
Very cool! I think I will be able to follow this just fine! Because of nature of my animations I have not needed to deal with clothing until now. What I see in watching this video is that you explain things very well, you don't mumble you don't rush through things where it is important, you give time for people to see settings. With most tutorials it is frustrating to see some one shows off but they often gloss over important steps or mumble or speak and rush through things, I know for some people don't need to see every detail but chances are there is going to be something important that many people need to see and you can't properly learn or makes for frustrations thank you for being clear.. There is a add-on people can buy but it is to expensive for me right now, plus I kind a like learning the proper way of doing things before cheating. Someday I am going to tackle full out rig building but for now I am thankful for the easy methods that Blender offers.
Man Idk where to begin this is really good and glad you included what can go wrong as well watched all ads I got as a thanks keep up the great work man !
16:11 You can use the mask modifier to make your mesh invisible instead of messing with the mesh. Made a mistake of having merge vertex on and scaled the meshed, later their feet were a blob.
Thanks a lot, i always ran away from cloth simulations in Blender since 8 years i'm using it seemed so hard and jerky in the previous versions. now with your tutorial for the first time it seems possible to obtain great result without too much pain. I'm curious to try!
This is a super helpful breakdown - especially of the effects the settings bring, compared to one another! Thanks for making this! It is much appreciated!
that was amazing! thank you for showing us your troubleshooting process and the logic behind each of your steps! I have watched so many cloth tutorials and had basically given up on them but this one shows that blender is capable of really good cloth sim!
Thanks for this great tutorial. I had an issue at 5:10 trying to reset the pose so ill post what i did to get it reset here. Im a blender novice but have some experience in c4d as a preface. Some key points for absolute beginners- Make sure you're in pose mode up in the top left and not edit mode. My first issue was Nvidia geforce hijacked my alt keys so i had to disable that. But even then Alt R and Alt G weren't working. I checked the key bindings menu in edit>prefs>keymap and they were bound to reset position and rotation correctly. So the only work around i found as of tonight was to manually drag and select all the bones and use the menu at the top Pose>Clear transform> clear pos and rotation separately. (Not all since we scaled the armature up.) Anyway just posting incase someone has the same problem or know incase someone knows how i can make those shortcuts work. Thanks
I appreciate that I can speak English, my first language is Spanish, but by learning English I can see these tutorials and understand everything without problem, since at least in Spanish I hardly see this type of tutorials
This tutorial is amazing! You are amazing! I was a teacher and thought I was good! You are a lightyear better ! I really don't know houw to thank you! I learned more in these 24 minutes than the last six months! You are great !Very great !
