  • 28 Days Later is a pretty solid zombie flick that a lot of people missed because they confused it with that Sandra Bullock alcoholism movie. Anyway, it has sins, so we counted them.
    Thursday: recent action sins.
    Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

    The fact that he woke up 28 days later and not early is a miracle since even if he was in a coma, he was tied up with IV bags. There's only enough of that stuff for a day at most before needing a refill. He would be dead from dehydration LONG before waking up from a coma

    "If this one's infected then why isn't it re-animated?" They're not zombies. They've got a virus that makes you uncontrollably angry. It doesn't re-animate the dead, it doesn't necessitate headshots, and it doesn't make you want to eat people. There's a scene in the sequel wherein a character gets infected and immediately just beats someone to death, no eating.

    • @gothnate
      @gothnate Рік тому

      Which is the same reason only Great Britain was infected. Spreading too fast like that means planes wouldn't be able to carry anyone to other countries, because the crew and passengers would get infected. Even if the pilots were safe in the cockpit, they'd likely ditch the plane because their only way out is through the infected. It's a self defeating, and extremely localized virus because of its speed. The REALLY scary viruses will have an incubation period of a couple of days at the very least, and can spread globally from travel. It has been suggested that the Rage Virus in 28 Days Later might have been augmented with a chemical as a delivery mechanism which, given enough viral load, could spread throughout the body in a few heartbeats, though the length of time for incubation would likely be shortened to a few hours to a day at most.

A single sting from a regular hornet will cause some moderate localized pain and swelling but, unless you're allergic, not much worse than an average bee sting.
      Murder hornets also have a nasty tendency to invade honey bee hives, brutally murder the inhabitants by decapitating them then taking over the hive for their own pupa. On average, only a dozen murder hornets can utterly devastate an established honey bee hive in about an hour.

      One has to account too, for the rabid increased pace of physiologic demand on the body. The aggressive physical response would require a caloric load much greater than usual, as demonstrated by the increase caloric requirements of soldiers in sustained combat action. Thus, these Olympic style zombies must eat about three or four times normal to remain able to do what they do. Further, such tremendous physical activity, if not gradually acclimated, would likely induce actual damage to the zombie's body as muscle will break down, cause shutting down of kidneys and death from renal failure within days. While the movie is exciting, there is little possibility that such a phenomenon could occur given normal human physiology.

      @Chris Becker - that's the one I was thinking of :) Triffids has the waking up in hospital not knowing a catastrophe has happened, but the people aren't gone - there's plenty of them, and mostly harmless, just all blinded.
      Quiet Earth has the waking up (albeit at home) not knowing there's been an "event" and it also has the "everyone's gone" aspect; walking the deserted city looking for anyone else.
      Still amuses me that the protagonist in Quiet Earth takes advantage of the fact that he suddenly has the planet to himself to indulge in some serious cross-dressing! I can't really imagine a US or even UK film going there, but New Zealand film goes there :)

    • @anonb4632
      @anonb4632 4 роки тому +1

      Yes, it's a total rip off. I always felt that it was a cop out on the part of John Wyndham - not everyone would go blind watching meteors, many would not even watch. Certainly not alcoholics and drug addicts.

    • @blatherskite3009
      @blatherskite3009 4 роки тому +3

      True. Wyndham's premise in Day of the Triffids doesn't really stand up to scrutiny. It's highly unlikely - even in the era it was written - that virtually *everyone* would turn out to watch the meteors.
      The Quiet Earth is more plausible in that regard, with a far more exact and difficult-to-replicate set of circumstances required to survive the event - which was itself pretty much ripped off wholesale for The Langoliers, but that's another story :)

    Half of these sins are you missing the point of some of the director's choices. Jim and Selena aren't suspicious of Frank because he saved their lives right in the nick of time. Once you witness that much rage at once, you need some levity. Frank also ends up dying later. The entire movie is about how people treat each other and the necessity of a balance between kindness and anger. Jim's kindness gets him far throughout the movie but his anger saves him against the military (the original ending, he ends up dead, cementing the tragedy of his unrelenting kindness, but the studio didn't like that). He uses his anger against the troops as a defense against false kindness, and then uses his catchphrase "Hello" to the plane, because rage victims don't greet you. It's simple yet elegant writing. You need both at the right time.

      I've questioned that logic with every zombie movie. WWZ tried to answer it but it's still dumb that a non-sentient virus can distinguish who'd infected or not.

      animals can distinguish predators from prey by how they act and how animals react is instinctual. Prey gets scared and has a look of hesitation and fear in it's eyes. A dog will chase a small animal that acts like prey and runs away, but will see one that stands is ground and shows dominance as something not to be messed with.
      It's entirely probable that if the virus made the infected more predatory and animalistic then they mightn't mess with each other since they wouldn't see each other as prey.

      @retsaM innavoiG Generally a predator doesn't wanna go after prey that fights back if they have a choice in the matter. The possible injuries outweigh the possible meal.
      Honeybadgers are known to shift in their own skin to claw out the eyes of any larger predator that gets hold of them. You gunna eat something when there's a good 30-50% chance that you'll lose an eye over it?

      The biological response causes them to only go after the uninfected. Their sense of smell is greatly increased. It was part of the overall experiment.

      Same way that humans know what a human is. The infected know who other infected are. Surely it's as simple as that. Can't be picking that stuff isn't real in a movie like this.

    Selena didn't turn into a damsel in distress. She realized she wasn't going to escape from a large group of armed men who were keeping her prisoner, and when she saw Jim attacking the soldier she thought he was infected BUT HESITATED. There was a bucket of foreshadowing leading up to that for goodness sake.

      Right Jim even quips "that was longer than a heartbeat" bc she said after killing david shed do the same to him in a heartbeat and its meant to show shes grown close to jim and hes one of the few good things she had left

      She'd seen men become more ruthless than the virus itself.
