You probably do understand it actually which is why you haven't invested in it. But you've been gaslighted by cryptobros. It literally is a decentralised ponzi, whereby those that hold coins propagate the scheme. Either that or they are incredibly stupid and believe that if one person puts $20k in the pot, and the next one puts $40k in, both can walk away with $40k each or more, which of course is impossible. Either way they think they can watch a few yt vids and get rich without working.

You can read the prospectus and see that you're not actually buying gold, you're investing in exposure to the gold price. Like if you buy unallocated shares with the Perth mint, no one actually believes they're buying gold....do they? If they do, they should probably read the prospectus.

I'm in a privileged position to be able to save almost 65% of our net household income, as I placed it on safer investments. The key for us was not spending beyond our means. If you invest and have other sources of income outside of dividends then you will be able to live off dividends. Got north of $520K in my portfolio as I bought a lot of dividend stocks before, I'm buying more now, and I will buy more when it drops further.

Avoiding debt with high interest rates and understanding how to invest your money are two very effective strategies.
