- Minecraft armor is very important to stay alive, but with so many possible enchantment combinations, what is the best armor in minecraft? Today I try to answer that very question, we will look through how armor works in the first place, and how to enchant minecraft armor in most optimizable way to take the least damage. Prot can actually help from drowning and suffocating.
Turtle shell helmet gives water breathing too
yup. with respiration 3 and full prot 4, you take basically take no drowning damage. You only take 9% of drowning damage which is very little. An example of this in play in when Technoblade spent several minutes "drowning". After several minutes underwater, he just got bored and came to the surface.
protection does protect against drowning and suffocation I was testing my new god armor on a water monument and I could just dive as long as I want... Natural regeneration literally outheals the drowning damage

For the last part: The count of damage sources does not determine their probability. So, you would be better to get some statistics from a few survival sessions, and a few pvp ones to see what is better for the case. Chances are - its still the same set, but the way you get the answer matters too.
and its also not how many sources, its how many hearts of damage. sure, you might get a lot of protection from cacti or berry bushes, but a singular creeper would wipe the floor with you because it deals much higher damage

some of the special protections have some special properties, like fire protection which, in addition to protecting you from fire, also reduces the time you are on fire for. funnily enough, with fire protection 7 or above, you will not set on fire. you will take damage from lava or fire, but the moment you step out of it you're extinguished.

yes true but fire resistance potions make fire protection useless. I think the only enchantment that it might be worth switching to is blast protection 4 for one piece. This is because there are three sources of explosion damage that can still almost 1 shot you even in protection 4 netherite: bed explosions in the end and nether, charged creepers, and end crystals explosions.

@@anormalguy8407 true. And to be precise, the reduction of on fire time is 15% per level of fire protection. Fire protection 4, the maximum for vanilla survival without cheats, gives 60% on fire time reduction
I remember when I was playing on a server; I was part of gang or clan and on the server was another rival clan. We usually fought in groups and all of my clan used armour while they used invisibility potions and spawn anchors to fight. I remember gearing up before every fight with 3 protection pieces and one blast, which most of the time saved me from losing valuable gear.
Even then, when I went netherite mining on the same server I’d still use a combination of fire protection and normal protection which made me able to almost swim through lava without having to use a fire resistance potion.

If you change your version to 1.14 you can make "god" armor, that has all protections on it just using anvil, and then you can change your version to current, and it stay :)
Then you could add netherite, and it’ll be 80% for all damage

One thing I thought of. How much damage will you take at once.
Basically, even if you take more damage that prot would cover over a longer timeframe , when you get hit by a creeper, you take a lot of blast damage at once, and that could kill you, so you might want blast prot to survive. This would be hard to factor in, and I’m not even sure how accurate it is though.

I have been watching your content for so so long man, love what you do, although Im an experienced minecraft player, I still learn lots of new hidden and math things about minecraft! Appreciate ya! Keep up with your work!
In high end pvp, I find that 3/4 normal prot is always best due to fire resist pots and such, and in modern day having your chest be blast prot IV helps a lot because of things like fireworks, crystals, and respawn anchors nuking you. Also, in spam PvP, diamond beats netherite 9 times out of 10 because the knockback resist makes you much easier to combo.
its funny how before watching this video I was like: of cource the full protection 4 netherite set is the best.
but while watching the video I started thinking that it's some advanced combination of them all or something, and then it just turned out to be the full protection 4 netherite.
And I just made a set with various protections with only one general protection 4 yesterday... wished I watched this before enchanting it xD
It's simple math so it was obvious from the start. Proj Prot, Blast Prot, and Fire prot all give 8 protection, while general protection gives 16. Plus, general includes blunt/melee damage, which nothing else covers.
@@dracoblizzard7944 they give 8 on a max level prot for their own specific categories while basic prot gives 16 on the full set.. so the most efficient choice is full prot but if you are working around fire alot or live in the nether than you would want one or two pieces with fire prot

Until the day when they add bosses with a very high specific damage type or just one super heavy hit that isn't normal damage. Protection will just be a better option. Fire damage can be entirely ignored by a fire resistance potion so honestly it can be ignored. The Wither can be a decent spot to wear blast protection in Bedrock since protection enchantments do not reduce status damage there. The Wither being the only combat instance outside closed pvp where wearing another type of protection doesn't reduce your survivability is quite boring and niche. Like bane of arthropods but that's another can of worms.

I would just use prot 4 and swap out one piece depending on the situation. If I'm raiding end cities, projectile protection would be the best. For fighting the wither, blast protection is the best. If I'm fighting blazes, then I'd use fire protection.
IMO fire protection is useless because you can always drink fire resistance.

0:35 it's best to have all protection except one piece which can have what ever other protection you want. For example, having multiple fire protection it the exact same as having just one piece with fire protection.

@@QuokkaWaka good thing about fire protection is after a certain point it prevents you from setting on fire. I mean like, you will take damage from fire and lava but when you step out you wont set on fire for a little while, you’ll just extinguish instantly. This is good not beacause its reduces damage from burning its beacause when you are on fire its hard to see stuff and also it slows you down, and makes your jumps unstable and these unstable jumps may cause your death in the action. Its a really good thing to have especially in nether

I'm prone to being set on fire often or walking into lava/fire, so I always keep a full enchanted netherite chestplate of fire protection 4 in my inventory, and it almost negates all damage taken by fire. I can sit in lava for a few seconds of ticks and not take any damage

In my opinion, looking at it with the amount of sources that cause certain types of damage is flawed as, for example, "fire" in the fire type damage is only listed once, but can be applied by many, many things such as just walking into fire, falling in lava, getting hit by a blaze, getting hit by ANY enemy equipped with a fire aspect weapon (this one is rather rare though) or even getting hit by any zombie that is on fire
Also, I think having one piece of projectile protection 4 is probably better than one of blast because skeletons are the final boss of pain in the ass, and projectile protection helps more in PvP (against bow users) than blast, I mean who's going to build a tnt cannon aimed at you

For PVP, full Protection IV is definitely the best, but I would argue sacrificing having one blast protection IV is a reasonable choice when exploring caves.

I'd argue that prot 12 and blast prot 4 is a viable set, since explosion damage is typically much greater than other sources. Feather falling also uses the same system as protection, so you'd also want a few levels (1 for prot 16, 2 for prot 12)
surprised you didn't mention the short time in 1.14 when you could enchant armor with each type of protection

I never knew which armor protection enchantment was best but I have always insisted on having protection IV, when I play with my friends on our server they're always confused as to why I don't take one of everything like they do, I used to not have an answer but now I do, thank you!
Well you didn't calculated the most common ways how a player can get damage. projectile is important because of skeleton, if you don't have projectile then skeletons will damage you a lot or may ruin your armor. Fire prot is also very important cuz if you fall in lava ( especially in the nether ) with full prot 4 you'll still get a lot of damage, just get a fire prot 4 boots and you can literally swim in lava for like more than half an hour. ✌
Use laggings
Protection IV reduces 64% fire damage and fire protection IV reduces 80%. So you take 20% instead of 32%.
So by swapping protection with fire protection you take 37,5% less damage.
@Dawid B source on the end crystal part? adding 1 blast EPF (taking away 1 EPF and adding 2 blast EPF but its effectively the same here) protecting you for ≥12 hp doesn't make sense to me given the math he showed for damage in the video
