Peace be upon you. If the switch is far from the router and the distance between the router and the switch is 80 meters and the Internet is distributed with an RG45 cable and the Internet speed is 80 megabytes and the population ratio is six, does this affect the Internet speed or not? Thank you.

Thanks, you too :) Uhm so it's hard to say for sure, but it probably comes down to the type of internet cable you have to be honest. For example a lower quality CAT5 cable will drop internet speed over 80 metres (even if the official 'safe' distance is 100m for CAT5). But a higher quality, shielded CAT 7 cable (for example) might fare better. Sorry that I'm vague there, but "it depends" is probably the most accurate answer unfortunately.

Thanks for the answer, is CAT6 cable close to CAT7?

@@Electronics000 they both have similar (100m) ratings so both should broadly work fine for what you mentioned in your previous comment 🙂 CAT7 might be slightly better due to having increased cable shielding, but CAT6 should still be fine IMO.

Can I power this switch with POE?

Unfortunately not. It requires a standard wall socket/power supply.

@@TechOverwrite Why the Port number 8 is power port then ?

I saw that you said that it wouldn't be possible to use it with an Access Point if I bought 2 of these Mercusys PoE Switches and plugged them into each other and each one had a cable to power a Ubiquiti Access Point, what would this Ubiquiti Access Point be? I need 2 in my house, one at the bottom and one at the top and I wanted to power them through these Switches by buying 2 and using one for each Access Point. Would work??

Great question, I should have expanded on that particular point a bit. So the Ubiquiti APs are fairly low power, and looking at their specs, it should be fine to power these from the Mercusys switch - especially if you're using 1 per switch 🙂 I guess the problem I mentioned would only occur if you had slightly higher APs, and used every PoE port to power those APs. Then the power budget would get exceeded. But what you describe would be fine.

i will be taking their switch but with no poe as i dont need it, im wondering do all unmanaged switches work the same? do i need to worry priority pc wont get enough speed when network is loaded?

I've heard good enough things about Mercusys unmanaged (non-PoE) switches yes. I'm general most unmanaged switches work in a very similar way yes, and most will not prioritize desktop PCs (or whatever). Some offer 'semi-managed' features which can allow for prioritization, but in general you would need some level of management features to start saying "give more priority to these 3 devices" or whatever 🙂

@@TechOverwrite Thanks! got the switch and seems for now network is most of the time fast enough that priority wont be needed so im happy
