I waited 11 years to find someone who can agree with me about how f*cking cool this movie is
Thank you, user.

its freaking awsome!
I watched it in theaters in 3d. I really enjoyed the movie but the 3d viewing was so disappointing. I figured they'd go all out on the visuals in 3d. That's my only complaint.
Right?!?! I also loved Tron:Uprising tv show.
That shot where Rinzler turns back into Tron underwater still gives me chills
In the theater I commented to my buddy, really early on in the movie, "Did you notice Rinzler has the same 4 square pattern on his chest as Tron?" I was so elated when it turned out it really was Tron.
I was so happy that his corruption by Clu was overridden by Tron remembering who he was and who he fights for. But then it was bitter sweet when Clu knocked him out and Tron was falling to the bottom of the ocean, but it was amazing to see his original color scheme return. I just wish he was able to see Flynn again before he died.
The costuming in this movie is impeccable. All of the costumes in Tron are beautiful and help make the world feel real
The lighting on the costumes was a practical effect that was done using electroluminescence. Anyone that's ever worked with EL strips knows that it's powered by a tiny high voltage inverter. On set, there were some cases of people getting zapped by the lighting in the suits.

It was awesome.I can't believe people forgot about this movie.
It may just be my UA-cam feed but A LOT of people have been praising it over the past couple of years, and Daft Punk disbanding honestly made it slightly relevant again.
cause it's forgettable
@@Matisyahuwu no it’s not just you I’ve seen the tron hype too lol. Finally it’s getting the hype it deserves I used to love this movie as a kid
I always understood the son to be essentially a "trust fund" kid, given the first part of the movie. It's either stated or implied that he hadn't had to work a real job, and his shenanigans are put up with, so that he won't take control of the company, even though it's his right to at any point.
Yep this is the implication.
"The thing about perfection is it's unknowable, but it's also in front of you all the time." The lesson I've never forgotten from Tron Legacy.
My favorite movie of all time, the one that unlocked my passion to create.

The only issue I have with TRON 3 being made is that Daft Punk can’t come back to score it.
That soundtrack is iconic in my eyes.
Yeah, but the original's soundtrack by Wendy Carlos was also iconic. But the bar is pretty high.
Ngl, my first thought about Daft Punk's retirement was how this would impact the Tron franchise.
wait 3? but i thought bruce boxleitner made it impossible becuase hes tron
I think some modern electronic artists could really do it justice. Daft Punk established the style, it’s much easier to emulate that now that it exists. Even somebody like Hans Zimmer could could do the soundtrack justice with a handful of “good taste”
@@canceroushit5933 You could, and that could work. But I almost would prefer another fresh new take. Wendy Carlos original was perfect for the original Tron. Daft Punk Nailed Legacy with their own style. You could just keep with that style and it would work, but I think I'd prefer a third original take for a third movie.
i kinda liked how little they went into Sam Flynn's life, it makes the movie feel a little bit more like a game where hes the avatar and we are the player
Back when I was little, I watched Tron legacy. When I saw them open up the light cycles I pissed my pants, and screamed "Oh my god" that was the first time I had never seen something so unique and so futuristic. Tron will always hold a special place in my heart.

I had the same thing with Rogue One. I was shocked how much people criticized Tarkin's Cgi afterwards and I was like: what??? He was cgi xD
When I first watched it, I was rolling balls
Visually, this movie was extremely so far ahead of its time. Like it’s beautiful.
I still believe not even Endgame has effects like this. And that's the great mix between practical and CGI.
@Michael Snyder not for its time.
I saw it in theaters as a kid. I grew up thinking everyone loved the movie, and finding out the opposite later on.
Fr. It has such a unique visual style
yeah, show someone who didnt watch it a clip of the visual effects and they'll think it came out a few years instead of over a decade ago
I think as former kids who are now adults go to revisit this movie, it's going to blow up out of nowhere. I was 10 when I saw this so ofc I didn't fully appreciate it but recently looking back, it's stunning
What touches me about this movie is that everyone is dealing with loss. There is a quiet sadness that permeates everything.
Just the Daft Punk soundtrack makes this movie a masterpiece.
I had listened to the soundtrack so many times without having seen the movie cause I heard negative things about it. Then when I finally watched it I was blown away. Not just cause it was a good movie, but because the soundtrack I had grown to love separate of the film was now in its right place, and it made watching the movie a multi-layered experience.
@@elliotklein6331 isn’t it just a perfect match? I was just convinced with “The Grid” during the opening that the music and the movie were going to be incredible. Really happy you overcame the bad opinions you heard about it to give it try mate! Take care.
The soundtrack really complements the amazing visual effects. I was searching for the soundtrack until they released the whole album recently.
I listen to this soundtrack just normally 😂😂
This movie was the source of my love for Daft Punk.
Based on what we see in this video, Tron: Legacy *still* looks better than most CGI-fests today.
That's because it was designed with purpose, as opposed to being used as a less expensive alternative to practical sets and effects.
I mean, the world is meant to be artificial and perfect-looking so...
I think what makes it better than a lot of CGI-f* fests today is that it didn’t try to be “realistic.” A lot of films today for some reasons like to use CGI for basically everything, including things that everybody knows is better when props are used instead. Tron: Legacy, on the other hand, use CGI, but it doesn’t try to hide that fact.
Except for PS3-face Jeff Bridges, but that's a given
You say that because it's stylized af.
Tron Legacy is one of the most elaborate, detailed, and epic stories ever told in a Daft Punk music video. I remember having little expectations when seeing it in theaters, and then absolutely falling in love with the music, visuals, and basic father/son theme of the story. A sequel could really go deeper into the AI discussion and how computer programs evolve as shown in countless movies over the years. But adding the visuals and Daft Punk music would elevate it. I fear a Jared Leto-led sequel could take away from Legacy, but we will see what happens when it comes.
Leto is absolutely the wrong choice for the sequel. I think a lot of Tron fans would agree.
Watching this movie today, I love listening to the daft punk soundtrack for this movie, especially the club scene, this movie was definitely ahead of its time. Truly a gem to appreciate.
This movie came out over a decade ago and is still the best-looking blockbuster I've ever seen
@Socksonat3am i will forever hail practical effects for their longevity. i mean, just look at how well lord of the rings and (most of) harry potter aged compared to the cgi-heavy movies from the same era that are almost unwatchable. i could talk for hours about how much of a genius peter jackson is when it comes to perspective, lmao
It is the best-looking and one of my favorites. Ever.
It's beautiful
@@frnk8650 The first iron man suits were cgi and still looked amazing. Then again, the hulk, released in the same year as iron man looked pretty bad.
@@frnk8650 i think practical effects are overrated.
Don't get me wrong, i love great practical effects, (just look at modern films like pacific rim jaeger interriors), but its weird for me that everytime someone comes up with practical effects they always take examples from high budget blockbusters/classics. I've seen enough older lower budget movies and i know probably as many examples for shitty practical effects as CGI. I always enjoy a great balance of both when done with great effort.

11:40 It’s also powerful for the audience because it’s the only shot in the film that takes place during the day, so the refreshing feeling of seeing the sunrise in the film that Quora experiences is easier to understand and feel for the audience.
Tron Legacy has been my favourite movie ever since i saw it at the cinema all those years ago, from the idea of the grid to the visuals to the songs are so good in my opinion. Ive never seen these sorts of movies as something meant to fully convey a perfect story but more as a glimpse into the world of these universes. The fact that there exists such a stark difference between the slums where sam arrives in the grid to the chaotic design of the arenas (showing Clus chaotic way of thinking) to the sleek design of the buildings in the city (almost suggesting a difference between what Kevin made and what Clu made) to the desolate bad lands where nothing was changed yet like a harddrive would look if you just threw random files on there without any order. The story could have been better yes, there could have been more action yes but there couldn’t have been a better way to show the grid and it’s programs any better!
I was lucky enough as a huge Tron fan to get to work on Tron: Legacy as an animator at Digital Domain , Love hearing so many others love the franchise as much as I do.

It's so heartbreaking to see this amazing world just be tossed to the wayside time and again. Legacy is one of my favourite films and Uprisng was one of my favourite shows and neither got the love or attention it deserved.
I disagree with Quorra being the damsel in distress in that moment. IMO the point of her being damaged was to show that her 'imperfections' was what helped her survive. You also get to see her 'genetic' makeup when Kevin trys to repair her damaged code.
The point was to show the bond between Quorra and Sam. She saved him earlier in the film and he ends up returning the favor. Both were capable but still needed one another
You make a great point about Quora being a damsel in distress, however, the thing that sets her a part from other damsel in distresses/femme fatale is that she decided to be captured. She gave herself up so that the Flynns can escape. It shows the importance of her relationship with Kevin who taught her selflessness. Quora wasn't captured because she was weak, but because she was strong.
100% agree!
Plus, Quora is far more capable of taking care of herself than the way damsels are portrayed.
She is like rukia from bleach in my opinion
@Erwin Lii bleach went totally downhill after the soul society arc smh
100% this. Not to mention Flynn’s son was also the damsel in distress first and Quora was the one to save him first, before he saved her.
This seems like one of those movies that would benefit being 3 hours long.
easy; they could’ve added many other scenes included the grid in general but i like the fact that it was succinct, it staples the fact the we’re pressed for time
#bringbacktron
Yeah, I always thought it needed more light cycle stuff plus I felt it would have been cool if Sam and Flynn were able to rally a bunch of programs to fight CLU. I hated that Sam was able to take down CLU's men by himself on his ship and most of it was off screen. And it would have been cool to have TRON finally join them to fight back more than just finally reverting back. Although it was very cool to have him take out CLU temporarily.
that would conflict heavily with the urgency of the matter, the whole point of it being a race for the portal, Sams impatience, and the pacing in general. the notion that more movie automatically equals better is a heavily overused and misunderstood point.
@@bagelbramble7335I think the movie would have been better if Flynn's disc was the only way to open the portal (seemed like it was required anyway) The events could play out the same but with a larger fight against clue.
Pacing wise I don't think it would be to big an issue, the movie starts pretty slow anyway, another half hour would have been fine.
Also would have been nice to get more Tron scenes, have him team up with Sam+Flynn earlier rather than him just switching sides and dying instantly.
This movie had just hit theaters as I graduated OSUT at Fort Knox, KY. I remember going to see it with two of my buddies the night I got home and falling asleep in the movie theater seat. My buddies kept waking me up and my mind kept making me think I was about to get chewed out by a drill sergeant for falling asleep. Once I realized I was free for ten days and could do what I wanted, I spent the second half of the movie passed out. Ended up watching it dozens of times after and always thought it was a great movie, but I'll never forget the first time I saw half of it in that theater.
To this day, this is still IMO one of the most beautiful movies ever made.
CLU is the abandoned, betrayed child of Kevin Flynn who is still doing whatever he can to make his father proud and maybe win him back. There is no sadder villain.
Snyder's Zodd, brought to life by the masterful Michael Shannon (go watch him in Shelter). Probably also MCU Killmonger.
@@O1OO1O1 Zodd is a good one but he wasnt anyone's child. Killmonger didnt want anyone's validation, he just wanted revenge and what he thought was his.
@@xbadjokerx Of course Killmonger wanted validation. His whole character is warped due to lack of it from society.
They all have tragic pasts and were creations of their society.
@SmashStomp Inc Zod's a purist. He wouldn't want to live on a planet like Earth--he wanted to re-create Krypton. Why risk precious babies under conditions that might kill him? It's his species we're talking about.
Why Earth isn't described. There could be lots of reasons. I assume their ships were running low on resources. Earth is ready to go. Why not?

I always felt that the conversation between Clu and Kevin at the end is the example as to why Clu is the perfect villain. Because we see Clu from Sam's POV he is seen as evil but in reality, Clu truly believes he is doing good. Perfect villain.
This movie was also made when Hollywood could still write villains.
The very same idea behind Thanos (Marvel), he believes what he is doing is good whereas most other villains are motivated for selfishness or ulterior reasons.
Like Hitler lol
@@ivanaslan24 has a point. How does a character/person believing in what they are doing make them "better" ("better person", "better hero", "better villain")?
@@Aussieguy72 Take it a step further. Both Thanos and CLU and trapped by what they perceive as a binary outcome and forced to make only one of two choices (Either fulfill their purpose, or fail and have no purpose). It's rather brilliant to see the writers of CLU frame his entire purpose on a very logical and appropriate (computational) premise but ultimately be hindered by it. Something Kevin never understood because he's not a machine. Humans see the nuance in every action and reaction. Thanos rationalizing his entire purpose in binary is what made him such a great villain. He chooses to see the universe that way, and where he diverges from CLU. He has the ability to choose and rationalize alternatives. CLU cannot. Its what makes CLU ultimately a tragic character and Thanos terrifying.
Seeing in theatre in 3D was epic. That transition from Flynn's into the Grid was fantastic and brilliantly played although an obvious choice for best effect.

Good we need more people with passion writing, creating, expressing themselves, not only the ability to express yourself, but it is a gift a talent that is so very vital to those that do not have the talent, the ability to reach inside oneself and manifest the internal in a way that captivates the senses and makes things come alive inside people that might not have otherwise, whether it excites the senses and causes someone to motivate, or simply shows someone they aren’t alone, it’s important, continue to share your gifts, you can affect many lives, who knows what you may inspire.
That's great to hear. I was thinking just last night how we seem to have lost courage in film making. The MCU is an astounding achievement, but it's based on decades old ideas and art. Where is the new Star Trek. Star Wars. Matrix. Alien et al? I love The Expanse and I think the new Dune and Foundation projects are going to amazing. But they too are all based on older material. I can't be the only one who kinda wanted to see what Clu's invasion of the real world would look like.
and would it have worked
It'd have probably resulted in some tiny ships coming out of the computer screen that Sam flats with a flyswatter. :D Like, Clu, why not send some scouts in first?
You've already seen it. It's called Marvel's Avengers.
That really, really depends on whether anything constructed of data is translatable to real physics without having a one-to-one analog like a sentient program to a human. I mean, either way long-term it would never work, but if their rectifiers and such are functional they could mess up a city for a while before being demolished by the National Guard. That puts aside any handwavy data magic that would be needed to make them a real threat like being able to hear radio freeze the internet or something.
But yeah, in a computer making something fly is more about what you say a thing can do, and in the real world it's more about how you make it do it. If the digitizing laser just makes a ship without functional weapons, an engine, or method of lift all they've got is a big fortress full of dudes half-buried in a demolished arcade and they've crushed their entire universe getting out.
@@morganrobinson8042 That mostly depends on how Flynn designed the "physics" of the Grid. Is it like the Matrix, where the code bends to your whim because it doesn't matter, or is it more like a real world simulation bounded only by the capabilities of the computer itself?
.
Flynn has the power to change anything, as a User, but he seems to be hesitant to do so...as if fucking with the world's code too much could cause some really nasty side-effects. And since his intent was to use the Grid as a proxy for advancing real-world knowledge and technology, it stands to reason that he'd make the Grid as "accurate" as possible. They have "air", drag, lift, gravity, etc. Odds are the ships don't simply float because they can, but they have code that emulates devices that can make them fly.
.
It's possible they might be less effective in the real world since Flynn himself wasn't a physicist or such, but he seems to have designed an adaptive algorithm that would organically make the world more "real" as it ran its processes. The longer it runs, the more realistic it becomes...hence why it eventually produced the Isomorphic Algorithms. Most likely, it wouldn't have worked. That would've been a lot of power to make a ship that big, and I can't imagine how it would've formed in that little basement. The only real way around it would be that Clu and one or two others go through, and somehow blow the top off the building, so that the laser has room to "beam out" the ship above the city. But that's still a lot of power. Not sure where they'd get it from.
.
It could be done, but there's no way it could be as simple as just going. Obviously the programs can leave...Quorra got out, after all.
Saw this in imax when I wad 12 nothing has com close to the energy I felt watching tron. The sound of the music was so powerful, and the cgi was and still is almost unnoticeable blew my mind away.
Absolutely S tier world building. Ever since I saw this movie I've wanted to get in the grid
Tron: Legacy is a whole mood. The theme, the aesthetic, the sounds, the music, the visuals! It's all just so damn good. If I could, I'd live in place like The Grid. Riding Light Cycles on the daily! Such an underrated movie. We even named our first daughter after Olivia Wilde's character, Quorra.

This was my first introduction to Tron and, as a teenager, I loved this and it holds up so well after all these years imo
This movie was everything to me when I was little. Still watch it multiple times a year. I’d love to see it resurface
The last scene with Clue saying 'I did everything you ever wanted' i think is quite emotional. Im glad you touched on that because I think it elevates the villain of the film a huge amount.
You know I just realized that the title of the film being legacy isn’t just about Kevin and Sam. It’s also about Kevin and Quorra, and also Kevin and Clu. Specifically with Clu, an older wiser Kevin Flynn realizes with Clu that he had so many good intentions while he paved the road to Hell with him. An excellent scene.
CLU lacked free will and human nuance. He is no more to blame than a shark for being a shark. The real flaw is Kevin's failure to realize this, and thinking he could build a new CLU that could help build a perfect world, and in the end Kevin realizes his hubris.
yeah but he also hugely misunderstood the film and everything in the films conversation.
yes but he also couldnt have human nuance not because he cant but because sam didnt have it either when he was created. clu's incapable of change because he is day one as he will always be. @@marc.lepage
The final show down between Kevin and CLU is probably one of my favorite movie scenes ever because it’s so well shot and the scoring and emotional weight of it is just so good, the slow mo shot of Kevin smiling while pulling CLU into an embrace and the emotional significance of him accepting and embracing his failure both literally and figuratively is so well portrayed and beautifully executed
Man, as a kid finding out both Legacy and Uprising bombed stung deep
I felt that when I realized I watched the final episode.
Theirs talks of a new Tron in the works (named Tron ascension) with same cast and Jared Leto starring in it but doubt daft punk will do the soundtrack this time if its true haha.
@@declanhoffmann1600 idk if you watched the video but Jared Leto is in the talks for Tron 3 which is being called Tron: Aries
@@gideonhorton_ oh god I hate that. I honestly hope I’m wrong about not thinking he’s going to do well. I really want Tron to succeed,
@@homosexualitymydearwatson4109 Jared Leto is a pretty good actor, I don’t think he’ll be the reason Tron 3 will be bad. It’ll be studio interference, thats why suicide squad sucked. But hopefully that won’t happen with T3.
I watched this movie again recently while I visited my dad, and it was better than I remembered. The visuals, music, and story were all so damn good. I also had the pleasure of going to Disneyland when this movie came out; there was a Tron themed area in California adventure that was breathtakingly cool. It was like a laser light show rave and to this day is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen and experienced in person.
One of the best sci-fi movies ever.
Tron: Uprising is even more criminally underrated.
Shiits on the movie.
Very true
Honestlyyy
We commited the crime of underrating it,to give u an idea i didnt know it existed, and im ashamed of that, just look at that A E S T E T H I C,and the art stile looks like a LD&R chapter, hope disney one day unlocks all the potential tron has
I didn’t know it existed until I was watching Disney channel at 4 am as an adult and there was a marathon
The movie is so good, that it physically hurted me when i realized they weren't making a sequel for it at that time.I've been addicted to it's OST since like 2013 or something, and i still have 'The Grid' as my ringtone
This makes me laugh. You know how long I had to wait after seeing the original back in the 80's? I was over 20 then - and yes - it was worth the wait. You kids got it so good and have no Clu.
I started running 10 years ago, every time i run i listen this soundtrack. Is perfect for running. 😁
@@claudiubanu8438 the OST is my workout music to this day and my girlfriend's like... don't you listen to anything else!? Why mess with perfection.
Legit one of the best soundtracks of all time! 🔥
When Tron came out I was 5 then in 2010. This was my absolute favorite movie and I watched it last night. It held up even better than I remembered because I could properly understand the movie. Absolute gem and am very happy you made this video!
When i was a kid I was embarrassed for liking it. I would make my parents rent it over and over from Redbox
My poor parents had to deal with me constantly wanting to rewatch this movie and transformers
And I loved it, I didn't used to talk to ppls, didn't had alot of friends, nor had access to internet back then, hence why didn't knew about the hate and everything.Saw the trailer on tv, watched it it was one of my favorite movie of all time and still is
Cough ,piratebay, Cough...
You could have just bought it tbh.
We must not forget Tron Uprising. An incredible world-building show that was gone too soon
I don't remember if it was good or not good. I remember enjoying it somewhat at least. I preferred the Green Lantern animated series more. That was very good.
dont remember much either, but i do remember that i was really bumped out when they cancelled it
@@O1OO1O1 Look up a video made by Negative Legend that was made recently regarding Tron Uprising. That show was incredibly well done

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched this movie (and how many people I showed it to). It warms my heart to see that others have love for it as well!
The soundtrack is such a godamn banger, hasn’t aged a bit. Love that movie
I'm so proud of my ten year old self for fangirling over this film since the first moment I saw the trailer on TV
Question is, do you still like it the same?
@@sum1s0mewhere yeee, the film has more or less defined my aesthetic preferences so naturally I still love it, if anything I appreciate it more now
@@angelica-yw7ev My aesthetic movie sense was defined by Terminator 2, so I know what you mean :)
I fell in love with this movie when I first saw it as a kid. The aesthetic, the soundtrack, the concept, some of the characters, I was instantly hooked. It was really disappointing when I realised that a lot of people didn't share my enthusiasm for it. But man I hope this new movie does it justice
This movie really needed additional 30 minutes of character development or just characters chatting.
I enjoyed it, tron was a silly movie with a lot under the hood, and tron legacy was a flashy movie with a lot under the hood. The spin off tv series was good but I wouldn’t say it was great. I also loved the idea of the ISO’s, truly artificial beings that weren’t created like the programs but evolved. My personal head cannon in that Flynn was traumatized by the events of tron and when he made his own web project he made it in dark mode so he didn’t get flashbacks of white rooms and white programs.
The details like Quorra not being able to beat Kevin on a board game not able to be played by computers, is something I love.
Daft Punks soundtrack for this movie alone should get an award it sounded so futuristic and badass
The cinamtography, sets, and CGI were all amazing, Tron Legacy is one of my favorite films for how visually spectacular it is. The simple story that leans heavily into biblical symbolism and metaphor also helps too. The beginning and ending monologues and how they mirror each other is another thing that stuck out to me, fuck i need to watch this again
I LOVED Tron: Legacy so much as a kid I have the thing practically memorized!
I'd like to add that the director was a former architect and he put a lot of it into worldbuilding.
Kevin showing up in the club and all of the focus just concentrating on him, even the music and the lights is one of the most epic scenes I've ever seen
Yes, that's probably my favorite scene in Tron!
The soundtrack on that scene is soooo goood. Chills every time
watching this video solely for a michael sheen mention (never seen tron but i've watched the heck out of good omens) and you did not disappoint!!
not even kidding, i have watched this movie 14 times. every time i do i never get bored, love it with all my heart
I’ve always loved this movie. I never understood why everyone disliked it so much. I’ve seen it like a dozen times, and I’m glad someone else has too.
I appreciate your capacity to recognize flaws in things you love
One of my favorite scenes:
(Sam): “We’re not gonna make it!”
(Quora): (perfectly timed pause after landing) “…made it.”
