Who would build a "performance" trans with a broken case? We need more people like Richard supporting the hobby!

Love watching you work, Richard. Been watching your stuff since the Precision Transmission days. I just don't know anybody who can tear down a tranny, throw everything in a pile and then be able to put it back together like it's business as usual.

Again. Another stellar n awesomely detail laden video from the Amorillo Transmission camp of Teresa n Richard. For the most part in this camp, the THM 350 is my deal for the past 42 years. And you pointed out a couple inside baseball details that got by me somehow and now will be a point of detail in all my builds going forward. Thank You.

Agreed. The shop/technician who recently rebuilt that TH350 had damaged parts inside and reused them. Obviously, they should have told the customer and got new parts or recommended the path that Richard is going with on the OD trans. Such a waste of likely $3,000 between the prior rebuild of the rear end and transmission and now even more, once again but it'll be done better than new.

It's was never disclosed to me that case had any issues. Nor did the individual tell me it needed parts, or it would have done the overdrive or fixed issues at that time. Thanks to Richard and Teresa doing these videos, I made a choice to do the 10-hour trip there.

Hello Richard, my transmission builder followed your “how to make a 350 fully manual” from your previous channel ontop of a fresh rebuild. But now when I downshift from 2nd to 1st it locks up like it’s on a trans brake. If I roll the shifter from reverse back to 1st it frees up like nothing happened. Where did we go wrong or where should I look?
    Thanks in advanced.
PS: I love the info you’ve always provided. Straight forward and to the point.

Hey Rich, any suggestions on how to clean a case and parts at home for the DIY that doesn't have the cleaning facility like you have? Maybe you can do an episode for the DIY. I know you're showing us how to do it but how about a episode for The Joe schmo out of his garage with barebone tools.

Might check out one of those larger tuff-totes from Home Depot. They're plenty strong enough for a transmission banging around inside, then get a 5 gallons of parts washer solution from a tractor supply. Soak it and use one of those stiff chainsaw cleaning brushes to scrub on it. After doing it this way for years, I finally got enough space for a parts washer from hobo-freight (highly recommend). It was cheap and is still going strong at least 5 years later (was ~$100). It's messier but the pump & filter is nice to use.

Clean case with a degreaser and a pressure washer, clean parts in a tub with kerosene or diesel fuel. Outside of case clean it with easy off oven cleaner but don't leave it on to long and pressure wash it good.

41:35 looking at the bumpers on that car, I'm thinking the output shaft might have twisted by the car getting hit while in park, with the parking brake off or barely holding.

GM was dumping Chevy engines in everything from '71 onwards, even got to the point where they were sued for the 1977 Olds lineup being advertised as having the Olds 350 Rocket V8 and instead delivering a regular Chevy 350 under the hood. They won, too.... 10,000 people or so got $550.

    • @kevinj2412

@@mfree80286 They didn't do any of that until 77, and the only reason it was done then is the cutlass was selling so well that they didn't have enough 350's to put in them. That Firebird didn't come with a chevy engine in it.
