When I heard about an illustration contest where the winner gets an official promo card of their own art, I HAD TO JOIN!!!! Lowkey feels like all my days doodling Pokémon prepared me for this moment! @@InsertNameHereNoob yes but it isn’t nice comparing other works with others. Saying like “one art was better then another and should’ve been placed higher” it’s kinda rude and makes that artist get discouraged :)
@@BirbDaddyGram If the artist was that afraid of being discouraged then why would they submit their art for exactly that?? It's literally what they signed up for. Besides most artists are their own worst enemy and will discourage themselves far more effectively than anyone else's comparisons could.

The Arcanine with the Oddish as a concept- It's absolutely adorable. Well done Ross! Please participate in more contests in the future, we all love seeing the results even if you didn't place first. Second Runner up is still an amazing achievement out of all the submissions out there.
This piece is awesome!!! I personally think the oddish was a great touch and probably a reason why this piece ranked so high in the first place. It gives arcanine the vibe of being majestic and protective of other Pokemon❤

Still can't get over Ross's pronunciation of Arcanine
I was considering taking part in this contest too, but... I've checked the rules and it turned out I can't because I'm not a "legal resident of the United States" or "legal resident of Japan". A little shout out to Nintendo - make your international contests a bit more international, please. It's sad to see that I can't take a part in something fun just because I don't live in one of those two countries.
Anyways, great entry, mister Ross.
His entry felt like the OG Pokemon cards with lots of attention to color and background and details that make you want to look more than once. It's definitely a 1st place entry. Looking forward to more of your entries in future contests! Congratulations.

Your illustration and the way you portrayed arcanine was much better than the first place for sure, thats a little bit unfair but congratulations it was awesome!!!!!
I’m living in Europe, but so far the Pokémon illustration contest is only participle for residents from the United States, or Japan. I hope that they will change that next year, because there are great artists and big Pokémon fans out there who haven’t had the chance to participate in the Pokémon illustration contest.

Man, I almost entered this competition because Scizor was one of the options, and I kinda regret that I didn't. When I thought "day in the life" I kind of thought of this cute, modest scene of Scizor carrying groceries with it's trainer. It's so unorthodox; I mean, Scizor is one of the most aggressive designs in the series, and DEFINITELY the most aggressive in the lineup for the contest but...

Def do it! I had many ideas for a bulbasaur being picked as a starter! With a cute look its eyes.
Congrats on the win! Even second runner up, that's awesome. I entered too but didn't make the Top 300. I entered an arcanine too. However, one thing still kinda bugs and confuses me. The contest rules gave a description for each Pokemon and then said they wanted to see something that encapsulates that description. Arcanine's was all about how tireless it is, how it's always running around gracefully. I really got the impression an arcanine had to be on the move to fit the rules, and thus mine was moving (guiding some pidgies to safety, and maybe you're right, other Pokemon may have been part of why I didn't make it into the 300). But then I saw a lot of top arcanine entries where they were sleeping! There was some great art, but it confused me, too, since the winners often had those sleeping/relaxing arcanines. I feel like I missed something, lol.
I want that as a poster!! I actually didn't know they held contests like that for pokemon!

Personally, I think Ross should've been at least second because that Arcanine submission was good enough to be a print or a cool wallpaper.
A theory on why Ross got third was probably because of the oddish but also maybe the plants being too much and the judges maybe thought it was too many things at once. Well, I'm sure Ross will win next time!
The biggest problem about contests its they receibed so many ideas by free when we spend time and effort by nothing. So only join in contests you trust and you really wanted, and if this can be used on portfolio.

I love this so much! Arcanine is my all time favorite Mon…I’m on a quest to collect all of his cards with only about 4 remaining…I look forward to one day possibly owning this one as well. It’s just beautiful!

Omg congrats Ross !!!! I was so scared to even try to enter the contest. You should do a tutorial on how you approach entering contests as a man artist !!!! Considering my favorite artwork on a card is Jolteon protecting a Togepi as it sleeps, I love the concept of an Arcanine recreating that energy. And personally like it better than the grand prize winner's.
I seen a bunch of Pokémon art in a mall here in Japan and seen “rossdraws” and had to go confirm! All the art looked so cool, congrats!

This video reminds me of how thrilling and exciting joining art contests was for me, though I didn't always get the first place, I felt like joining those contests was much more gratifying for me and then I just learned to appreciate whatever I got and just enjoyed the process 😊

I entered in that contest with arcanine too and kind of wish I went with my normal style instead of an experimental style. When I saw your piece in the line up I was like “holy sh- they entered?! It looks amazing!” Congrats on getting into one of the top spots!!

YOU'LL GET EM NEXT TIME! Arcanine is my favorite poke'mon and I /love/ this picture. I don't think the oddish is what lost you 1st/2nd place :) I know everyone in the comments is saying the same thing. The oddish was a perfect choice since it didn't take away from Arcanine being the featured poke'mon, and I think this photo without the oddish sleeping there would've felt less complete than the oddish version.
