Also my kids were in martial arts believe me if you keep going they push the belts eventually. They even had a special needs kid who could not do anything and he kept getting belts. A for effort.
My husband is retiring from teaching as a result of school violence. He's been in several schools where shootings have occurred. Living with this threat as a family member is terrifying and I'll be damned if I'll lose my spouse as a result of this sh*t.
Why is it so hard for some people to understand that committing a crime and then yelling "It's a prank bro" right after does in fact not magically not make it a crime anymore. A prank is something were afterwards everyone can laugh about it even the target for the prank.
I would say that they're just idiots. But it's more than that. It's social media. You have people like Jack Doherty, Johnnysomali, etc acting as their role models. They have zero respect for anything or anyone except social media clout. "It's just a prank, bro!" yeah, it's also a felony. Good luck in prison.
“Someone could misunderstand the situation”. Criminals rob people ALL THE TIME by pretending to have a firearm. There is no misunderstand this situation, if two people do this and someone decides to defend themselves they should be within every right to react with self defense measures.
I escaped being mugged once simply by not believing the guy was serious and slowly walking into a populated area. Realised afterwards that I was supposed to hand over my valuables instead of laughing it off. That was the first time stupidity actually worked out for me

Fr, can you imagine how frightening that would be? Something like that could give someone too much anxiety to go back to that cafeteria. (And I'm someone who usually thinks people need to get over it)
GOOD. Sue for a % of all future earnings or they won’t learn and keep doing pranks. Hope these charges are far more severe than attempted robbery and burglary
Why would their parents sue? These are all adults in a university. This isnt like some seniors or juniors in highschool. Those parents no longer have guardianship over them. If anyones sueing, itd be the students, and probably with their parents lawyers.
This isn't funny, this isn't cute. That is my child's literal worst fear, I couldn't imagine him experiencing this. These are kids that never faced consequences in their lives; stupid games, stupid prizes.
Prank when I was young was something stupid like ding dong door ditching. Prank now HAHA I'M COMMITTING TERRORISM. Yeah the level of brain rot thanks to kids constantly being exposed to "influencers" "pranks" and or people who think they're "funny" is really starting to get out of hand. Like I've said so many times before there's no reason a kid should have a cellphone, trust me nothing good will ever come out of it.
This is exactly like shouting "Fire" in a crowded theater or "Bomb" in an airport. You can not joke about things that people, especially law enforcement, have to take seriously. You cannot joke about things that would cause a panic.
At this point, there needs to be a rule of thumb that using the “it’s just a prank” or “it for a trend” excuse could land you a harsher sentence. I’m so tired of people doing actions that are so dumb that it hurts then acting like it’s a joke.
7:26 "Some students shrug it off." Yeah, this is what makes these kinds of pranks even more dangerous. We're shutting off our survival response because we can no longer differentiate what's real threat from what's not.

@@davemccage7918 I don't WANT to do it, but if these people are gonna hurt MY people. They can suffer from their guts being exposed to the outside air.
Yeah, that's definitely not true. If your life is not in danger, that's also not an active shooter situation. Whatever college you work for that said that you're allowed to jump students if there are a threat. Good luck with that. You can't even do that at corporate stores. You cannot put your hands-on people. It doesn't work that way.
I dunno, there was the guy who walked up to security at an airport and said he had a bomb in his car as a "prank"...that ranks pretty high up there on the stupid level
Back in the 1980s I made a joke about having a bazooka in my pants and got a pat down from airport security. Today if I see Jack at the airport I will not say hi.
Lawl. I got my instructor at college with the "Don't panic! This is a drill." gag once when handling a power drill... later on whilst using a plasters trowel I got him again. "Okay, time to panic, this is not a drill." I said. He grinned, and then told me I'd be sent home if I made a pun that bad again.
I don't think there's been a time in history where bluffing you have a weapon you intend to use has ever worked well. Making an obvious pun / joke with a stick clearly isn't malicious. Pretending to be holding a glock and telling people to get on the ground is a whole different ball game.. No era is tolerating that. Actually I'd argue we've gone soft. 50 years ago that would have been immediately dealt with, bluff or not.. 🤣
I remember back in the day a buddy of mine did a prank he reffered to as "mild vandalism" where he would wait for someone to leave, be it the teacher or another student, and then he would quickly rearrage all their stuff. They ended up very confused for a few minutes, we all got a good laugh everyone had fun. What none of us ever thought to do was pretend to have a gun and threaten to shoot people becaus that seemed less fun for everyone.
When I was in school, they used black or green boards with a rough surface and white sticks of chalk that wrote on them. The erasers were a felt material with grooves every quarter inch. I'd sometimes take a stick of chalk and place it sideways into the grooves. The teacher didn't know it was there, but when they tried to erase the board with it, it would leave a mark on the board. Then they'd have to remove the chalk. Mr. Francisco (math teacher) would remove the stick of chalk and throw it at me.
I pranked my buddy with shaving cream in his hand when he got drunk and knocked out. He smacked his face full of shaving cream. Did the warm water in hand too, but it was a little too hot. Never did I think of doing something this stupid. Man, times have changed from when I was a teenager in the late 90s.

When I was in community college, I was headed to class. It's ten till and the hallways were a ghost town. I get grilled by an instructor, asking why I was in the hall. I said I left the bathroom and I'm headed to choir. I get thrown in the choir director's office. Apparently there was a threat to the HS. This was one month after an actual armed intruder injured a student at a HS an hour from us. We were under lockdown since we had HS students who often came to campus for class. All the schools in town got put on lockdown. The rest of the week, these threats kept happening. In total, 3 kids got slapped with felonies. This was before tiktok became big. There were HS students saying that the kids should've been let go. It was just a joke. We had federal organizations that showed up. I should reiterate. This was a month after a school nearby had a student injured due to an actual threat. (A teacher ended up jumping on the student and disarming him before any other damage could be done.) How anyone can say, "It's just a joke." Sickens me.
They cared at a community college? I work at a community college and they'd have no reason to care if people were in the halls during hours that school was open due to the fact that people don't all have classes at the same time.
Sheriff Grady Judd & lawmakers in Florida are now charging parents for the man hours it takes to find the source of online and phoned in school shooter/bomb threats. The first one was publicized recently, a $30k bill when it happened soon after a nearby school shooting (NC?). They have to bring in FBI and other specialists, pay overtime.. Good.
Also from CT... It's even more messed up that these two young men are about the ages the lost children would have been. I remember doing active shooter and bomb threat training starting in elementary school in the 90s with times of legitimate concerns we were under attack. Have young people just become numb?
I have been through a few fire alarms going off & bomb scares at my University campus and it's EXTREMELY disruptive to things going on. I had a final presentation in a class canceled, because of someone calling in a bomb scare in a dorm. It's not a joke!
At least you didn't have to go through nuclear attack drills like we did when I was in elementary school. Fire drills, tornado drills, and nuclear attack drills.
Note to anybody in Utah thinking of trying this: you may find yourself with more problems than charges and jail. Due to the way that the Utah CCW permits work and how the law is written, it's entirely possible for other students who have a permit to be packing on campus (assuming it's a public university). And yes, this is set in stone. At one point several years ago some of the universities banded together to try to prohibit carry on campus. They were promptly told by the state legislature that they are not allowed to prohibit lawful carry on campus and they had to change their rules.
Utah here. I actually had a history teacher in high school who had a gun safe on campus. Not university, HIGH SCHOOL. Am I bothered by it? No, because the safest place in that school during something like this way his classroom. No one was allowed behind his desk period. He was absolutely terrifying and all students obeyed.

I keep imagining all the laughs & giggles these 2 were going through, from the inception of the idea thru to the moment the 1st law enforcement officials showed up. The high-5s they gave to each other.. the phone calls or texts with innovative ideas one or the other would come up with. Barely able to keep the enthusiasm from spilling out and ruining their grand plans for a viral video. They worshipped their idea and themselves profusely throughout the days, hours & minutes leading up to the pull of the trigger, so to speak. As a lifelong CT resident I dearly hope these 2 are from out of State

The US govt demands that ByteDance, a Chinese company, sells Tiktok to a non-Chinese company. Of course, Tiktok refuses to. Anyway, the reason why the US Govt wants Tiktok to sell its US operation to an American Owner is because, accdg to the US govt Tiktok is a threat to national security. Please read up further. That’s the main reason for its looming ban and not because of the so many BS going on Tiktok. I mean, there’s so many more BS going in FB but because it’s an American company, the US govt will not touch it. :)
If you don't hold them VERY accountable for their actions if things don't change it's your fault. I recommend "pranking" them in court by making them believe they are getting 10 years without parole. Lock down for a couple of days and probation and fines. Definitely expulsion.

I’m so surprised that this happened in CT considering the general vibe around guns and the how seriously school shootings are taken here
When I was in community college, I was headed to class.
(A teacher ended up jumping on the student and disarming him before any other damage could be done.)
How anyone can say, "It's just a joke." Sickens me.
They cared at a community college? I work at a community college and they'd have no reason to care if people were in the halls during hours that school was open due to the fact that people don't all have classes at the same time.
