Sorry for the cutting music. Didnt realize it got recorded into the video, and I made too many videos today to redo it without the music (5 videos in total...). Hopefully it's not too distracting!
Not overly distracting. It almost made your voice sound more epic at times! 🤣
Was epic
So is DoT better?
It's the D2 OST. It's GOATED.
It was good, keep it in
Looking forward to seeing the breakdown of 2H vs BlackRiver / Focus
Or even one handed plus a new aspect… I’m trying the .10X while standing still and it feels pretty solid.
You're a mechanics madman and I'm here for it!
Agreed
When I first got into my shadow minion build I wasn't sure what direction I would take it, and had some questions about scaling so i tempered +dmg to cover my bases. When I settled into a more minion focused variant and re-tempered I was expecting a much larger damage increase. Now it makes more sense.
Hell yeah! Very excited to see your new modifications. I commented on your previous post Blight Black river build about some issues and i had made a few swaps that significanlty eased my essence management and boss management issues. I’m curious to see what further tweaks you make to the build and if my modifications were running along those lines. Good luck and waiting for the next vid!
Pumping out the quality videos mate, don’t burn yourself out!
Another one of this nice „tech“ vids. Love it!!!
Nice! Both my weapons have greater damage % and since I have 2200 INT my wither node has a 45% chance to apply 180%× damage to my dots.
Cool man! Super excited that all this 'new tech' is being discovered to make more builds viable / strong. Appreciate your efforts as always - ty!
When the season came out I was going for shadow DoT build and was curious I'd damage affected shadow damage over time and saw that all of my values went up by 50% from my roll. Thought it was either a visual bug or if it was just a weird way of the game calculating it. Can't wait to see the updated build, your ebonpiercer build has been my go to so far
I just finally caught up to the first version of the build and masterworked my black river. Fun times…
Can’t wait for this build ❤️
Love this video. Experiments with real data, controlled base, evidence and mathematics to support your conclusion. More of these videos every season omg please!
You earned my sub
Does this only work for necromancer or for a sorc as well with burn dot stuff ? 😮
This explains a lot about my burning sorcerer and the staff I switched to today that has a greater damage affix that the 25% masterwork landed on
Do you think a blighted bone prison corpse tendrils build would work if I roll a ton of cooldown to C.tendrils and BB.prison
does this work for a poison flurry andariels visage build too? I see everyone running damage over time vs generic damage on their daggers
But does this affect bleed for a thorns or rend, now I need to know the ratio for a build
it's this work as well for Bleed damage for Barbarian ?
So is better to get GA stat for rogue dex or damage ?
Would damage also be better for wind shear druid?
does this work with mastery temper and firewall also?
could this be some accidental interaction with the 2handed doubling? was this tried on a 1handed weapon too?
Is it because it doubles +'s the full amount of the dot then +'s the full amount of of each tick?
Jay Wilson is back on the dev team.
solid content
This works for poison and bleed dot as well?
Is this any and all dots? Like works this same calculations work for rend/rupture barb?
what did you find
does this work with all the classes?
Any idea if this also applies with Fire? Cause there is then Damage, Fire Damage and Fire Damage Over Time
Is this a bug or is it just "damage" being applied to "shadow damage" and "shadow damage over time"?
Does that work on Andariel visage? I am thinking to make a build around it
You mentioned this for shadow damage over time, I am assuming that is just because you were using this build. Would this work with Firewall or another DoT's build just the same?
I want to know how the duration tempers affect DoT skills and are they worth getting
if you were going for more of a shadowblight build, would you want shadow damage over time on the tempers, since its also a multiplier for shadowblight? or is the damage of shadowblight not effective enough to focus your build around?
Infinimist has a version that focuses on Shadowblight procs, and yes you'd want Shadow Damage Over Time for that.
DRUID INFO, IT WORKS FOR WIND SHEAR. JUST TESTED. with this knowdledge thunderstruck may be of less use depending on overall paragon stats. but it also means we can stack damage + damage to close on jewelery and weapons for maximum multipliers.
I love how there's so many bugs for Necro right now. It feels like I could make a build of just throwing mustard packets at the enemies and it might be the best.
Will the dot damage bug also work with barbs? I don't see why not
Should this math apply to Bleed? (sry if dumb question, just not certain if bleeds on barb fall under standard DoT mechanics)
Thanks for the usual amazing job of keeping us well informed, Mac!
Have you tested this mechanic on a one handed weapon? Just wondering if for some weird reason this affix might be counting as double only for two handed weapons. Thanks!
It doesn't matter where the stat is on your gear
I wonder if this triple dips if you generate a hit based on an applied DOT, like with Rupture on Barb.
You would get double effectiveness of the damage % listed to apply the DOT to create a nice juicy DOT bleed, then the same damage % stat would scale the hit damage that is based on the bleed that was already scaled by that % damage mod.
the shadow blight key passive gets stronger with shadow DOT, doesnt that give more dmg then?
Have you tested if this is the only + damage type that's getting the doubling? That's odd it wouldn't be doubling for all +damage types.
So for poison rogue, I go for Dmg % + DOT %?
Would this blight build make use of the shadowblight Key passive ? If so, can damage over time sometimes outweight the additive nature of pure damage if you wanna use shadowblight procs ? Or do I go for amethyst and paragons nodes/glyphs that help shadowblight and leave it at that
yes it does use Shadowblight key passive, but this is not the damage you want to scale. The benefit of Shadowblight is you can use the Blighted aspect. If you wanted to build into doing Shadowblight damage this would be akin to the classic Infinimist crit damage build using X'fal's, and I don't think that build is very good this season
Hey micro, love+ur+work/maths=new sub.
quick one:
Are all additive sources of dmg the same in terms of calculation now?
For example, assuming max crit chance and full uptime on vulnerable, is 50% dmg = 50% crit dmg = 50% vuln dmg?
Yep
you rock!
Is this just shadow damage over time or all damage over time? Would poison rogue/rend barb/etc also benefit from this?
or on firewall for a sorc as well, I have the same question.
I think +damage affecting damage over time twice because +damage affecting darkness damage as straight damage and damage over time too. But straight darkness damage is also affects damage over time with darkness. So you're right. It's basically twice as effective
Could you try it with a one handed weapon? Maybe 2x damage is related to 2h weapon? Does it also apply the same to other damage types?
Has nothing to do with the item the stat is on.
I did a blight build and it was a blast for nm dungeons and pit before boss but the boss fight wasn't good lol. How is thorn necro ? Why no one playing it ? you can stack a lot of armor and thorn and bone golem and taunt skellies. I hopped on barb but will come back to necro again to try out your blight build and maybe theorycraft thorn necro.
regarding your final statements, for high-end build you'd probably want INT+DMG (one of the two)+Life for survivability, right? Glass cannon is fun for speed farming and for theorycrafting but I doubt it's the best choice for pit pushing
You could maybe live skipping Max Life on just your weapon. I wouldn't, but could maybe do it.
percentage damage vs strength? I notice I gain alot more by removing strength and having %dmg instead.
So does the all damage stat actually count as crit damage and vuln damage as well since they are all part of the same bucket and all damage encompasses all types of damage? If you can apply vuln and crit at 100% uptime, can a direct damage skill actually benefit as a x3 from the all damage? (Crit, vuln, type if damage dealt)
This is only a specific interaction with DoTs. For everything else, it's only added once.
I'd tried to build a poison rogue but it failed. I had HP, Dex, and DoT on my weapons which seems fine. However, I rolled Damage per Combo Point in the temper affix. And it somehow didn't work as intended for the poison DoT. The damage was only applied during the direct damage and not to the DoT. With this, I understood that DoT scales based on your currently existing Damage or AP stat as they tick... not based on your damage when you inflicted the DoT.
Hi Macro! Does this build path use the "Wither" legendary node?
Yep
I was playing a shadow rogue and swapped to poison. Had crazy all damage that made me realize I should be scaling poison dmg even more than vulnerable and crit. Idk what sorcery they did this patch but poison was never this good except for the bursting venoms TB Rogue.
thumbs up to mac's keen eyes on spotting it.
however, this discovery seems very much like a bug. i wouldn't recommend people tempering into this instead of shadow dot because we only have 5 tempering rolls. if the dev one day fixes this, the gear may become much less powerful than with shadow dot. also, imagine people with 3 GAs gear tempering into "damage" and then it got fixed. so i'd opt for a slightly less optimal but legit shadow dot affix instead.
I might try to re-gear towards this on my wind shear Druid. Even if this might not be stronger than stacking damage to distant it would at least be more flexible since I wouldn’t have to concern myself with my proximity to enemies. For instance I can solo Tormented Andariel but it takes forever because I need to run inside the shields to blast the totems and lose my damage to distant bonus. Idk
I wish there was a viable build for decompose with something like moonrise and adaptability
Hell yeah, but if I'm running a shadow minion build focused on golem damage and still using the blight aspect on weapon could this work or be beneficial??
No, you don't really contribute damage on a minion build.
Does this also apply to poison? I got an Andy's the other day and am trying to figure out how to push my rogue further.
No it does not
Does this apply to incinerate?
Will there be an update to the Maxroll blight build with this info in mind, or "just" your own Discord blight build?
I update all of my build guides on Maxroll with my findings.
@MacroBioBoi nice video. Im runing DoT sorc for andariels visage doin 8mil+ Poison dot. I will try to boost dmg from %damage and damage over time add % a lil evrywhere to see
Was just considering enchanting my fully masterworked 2h scythe to get DoT instead of generic damage. It would cost about 8m per roll. Perhaps I should rethink things haha
Does bleed count?
This is probably the spookiest video you've uploaded
cool, thanks
Is this strictly shadow DOT's or eponpiercer? Or has this been tested for other builds classes and is for all DOT in the game?
Any dot skill, afaik
Give us new Endgame Builds :)
Assume it’s not a bug, simply +damage stat is added to attack power. Same as base stat. So dot damage pool is getting hit by the +damage. But it’s also scaled off the base damage “attack power” and therefore double dips?
may be its bugged only for items abilities?
i wonder how it work with burn sorcerer build
Is this peculiar to necromancer, or has anyone confirmed it for other classes?
finally! let's go
i may be wrong, but at least for poison imbuement on rogues it applies a multiplicative damage over the imbued base skill damage. So i think that %dmg applies on base skill damage used to calculate the "snapshot" of poison, then it applies again over every single dot tic. Reading blight description could it be that it works the same way? So %dmg applies on impact damage, then 105% dot damage is calculated over the impact damage (and not over global damage), then %dmg applies again over every single tic?
It does nothing for poison rogues I have 500% damage and i do less as before when I had damage to crowd control dude is an absolute idiot
So is this explicitly for shadow damage or does it apply to any DoT damage from any class?
He does mostly Necro so I would try to do some testing on some throw away items in the dummy room and go from there
I had a fucking feeling I was right to favor the flat damage. Feels good being right, I've been using it despite all the guides.
Crazy discovery O_O
This explains the weird results I am getting with my first ever Druid and trying to max out Hurricane for shits n gigs until I can get a tempest Roar to drop
Hurricane is not a traditional DoT, it’s a physical skill that just hits repeatedly; hence why it can crit
Have you tested any of the other damages to see if its exclusive to the single affix?
They have been tested by others that I trust
Thanks@MacroBioBoi ! I would think this applies to all classes then also, correct?
@@derrideantea8985 my understanding is yes, but I play necro
I assume it's a bug that looks at all keywords in a skill and buffs each of those keywords. For example, Blight is a Core and Darkness skill, so i'm guessing a flat +50% damage increase will go to both keywords and end up as a total of +100%? Maybe test it out on Bone Spear to confirm this theory?
Isn’t a two handed weapons double their effects? Sorry for the dumb question, I’m super new to diablo
the effects showing on the 2h is double what a 1h would be. What is showing on the 2h info panel is correct for 2h. when you go to modify a 2h at the blacksmith or the occultist they show what the 1h version is. So just double it
I wonder if the double damage also applies to corpse explosion DOT?
It does
I am surprised it is stil in the game :D it has been like that since S0
Is this true for other class also? say druid windshear. +damage will also double dip?
Yep
Sooo is that just for necro. This ish confuses the heck out of me. So rogue andys flurry the bow would do more damage with a damage temper or is CC still better?
This is all damage over time.
"I've been in your algorithm"... The calls are coming from inside the house
XD
Would this work on a barb with fire damage over time
I didn't know Barb had a fire DoT build :O
As a programmer and game developer, I can only think of one possible reason for this to happen:
It's possible that +X% All Damage is internally calculated as if it was:
+X% physical damage
+X% cold damage
+X% shadow damage
+X% ...
+X% shadow damage over time (or +X% damage over time, idk)
Or it is a Warframe Faction Mods situation:
DoT being based on the initial damage of the skill (a certain percentage of it), which is affected by faction mods, and the resulting DoT which is affected by faction mods again.
Here:
- base_dmg * (1+0.5) = scaled_base_dmg
- base_dmg_hit * to_dot_percentage * (1+0.5) = final_dot_dmg
But yours is a really good guess!
@@knicklichtjedi
Double dipping
@@ianashmore9910triple or quad if u add in the chance to do any elemental damage... and say add with a sorc for tal rasha loop..
Lets not forget items like tyrael might
I asked Macro, but you might know as well, he kept mentioning Shadow damage over time can I assume this works for all DoT skills (ie say firewall as well)?
or just because DoT ticks 2 times, every tick gets all damage modifier.
Does this apply to the paragon board?
Yep
Is this true for other classes? Just asking for a fire sorc friend 😂
So is DOT affected by attack speed ?
No
Well I suppose it's time to scrap black river and see what we can do here. The bulk of my damage comes from blight anyhow. The question is, do you scrap ring of sacreligious souls if you move away from corpse explosion?
Yes
@@MacroBioBoi thanks!
I love how the time stamp says how to you abuse this
Could you test all other damage stats before the conclusion? We don’t know if the “damage” is the only stat multiples by 2 on dot.
2x small blights on each side could easily applies to all kinds of damage stats too, just by guess.
They have been tested.
@@MacroBioBoi viewed results from other source. Thank you for replying!
So damage to close and distant doesn't also double the dots?
correct
@MacroBioBoi that seems strange because it's the same as the damage affix but with a rule. But good to know, thank you for your quick response!
This is just a guess but I wouldn't be surprised if the xDMG is coming from the fact that it's a two handed weapon. Almost like the +DMG is being multiplied just like a legendary affix. I'd be curious if you get the same effect with a one handed weapon.
It doesn't matter where the stat is on your gear
@@MacroBioBoi I see. Thanks for the clarification.
