Music: We're Gonna Be Okay-Cody Francis
    Epidemic Sound
Behind this beautiful place is a sad story
On April 26, 2018, the Philippine government closed Boracay for up to six months.
This drastic decision drew several opinions
For us tourists, it didn't seem to be a major issue
we can just wait for its reopening and we can witness "a better boracay"
    once again.
But residents were oblivious of what the future holds for their livelihoods on the island.
Many people lost their jobs, from vendors to boatmen to etrike drivers
Most workers in the hospitality industry were displaced
    Some residents lost their homes
Business owners were struggling and some filed for bankruptcy
A lot of people’s morale has gone down.”
Boracay reopened on Oct 26, 2018
While residents and businesses were still recovering from their losses
Boracay experienced a decline in tourism by the end of 2019 due to the pandemic
And a total lockdown on March, 2020
Like most tourist destinations, the pandemic has hit Boracay really hard
Most establishments were closed and most people are struggling to feed their families.
