- The original Synapse in 2006 was one of the first bikes aimed at sportive riding and both the carbon and aluminium models have a reputation for balancing comfort, light weight and efficiency - and they’ve always had good looks on their side too. | Subscribe to Cycling Weekly here: www.youtube.co...
As a pioneer of lightweight, oversized aluminium tubing, Cannondale knows how to get the best from this material.
The 2018 Synapse incorporates technology originally used in its CAAD race frames such as SmartForm, where tubing wall thickness can be manipulated very precisely in order to keep the frame as light as possible while remaining stiff.
SAVE stands for Synapse Active Vibration Elimination and is Cannondale’s way of engineering compliance into key areas.
The Synapse frame is fully winter ready with mudguard eyes and rack mounts. It will accommodate 32mm tyres and comes with 28s.
The fork is carbon bladed with a tapered steerer. For more consistent handling across the sizes - and to avoid toe overlap in the smaller ones - the fork has a rake of 60mm for the two smallest sizes and 50mm for the rest.
All Synapse forks - and therefore all Synapse bikes - are disc specific: Cannondale’s belief in discs is such
that the Synapse is not available as a rim-brake bike any more.
At the competitive £1K price point, it’s always going to be mechanical rather than hydraulic disc brakes; the Synapse in this spec uses a twin-piston Promax caliper to avoid rotor rub, operated by the Tiagra shifters.
Also featuring in the Tiagra-specced model is an FSA Omega compact crankset driving a 11-34t 10-speed cassette, meaning there’s a 1:1 ratio to bail you out on the steepest bits.
The finishing kit is Cannondale’s own-brand C4 equipment and the saddle is an own-branded Stage Ergo.

Was the Framesize in the Video 58 oder 56cm?
you look like Tormund from GoT
Sweet ride
No thru axle in the rear?
That sucks .
How much weight have this Cannondale.. i'm thinking buy one..
one more like by the way
10kg ( reply after 6 years)
Works great.
So the bottom bracket is threaded?? It’s not BB30?? What’s the rear spacing??
Cannondale using a Promax dual piston caliper (mechanical disc brake) for this model & the flagship Synapse SE alloy has TRP Spyre mechanical calipers. Any reviews for these newer mechanical brakes by Promax? I am looking for replacements for Avid BB5 which lack feel & power.
Even I am in hunt for it. It says Promax Decode R in the 360 image of sora bike( same brake as tiegra) but even the promax website doesn't show it up....
Cannondale's quality and design has plummeted over the last few years
beg to differ with this specific bike at least, i have the 2020 (carbon disc tiagra) and it’s a great road bike for longer rides, and it’s really great up climbs, def more comfortable than my trek madone SLR7 disc after 40miles.
What is the weight limit please
Legit af
Briggsss
Nice comercial...
Please stop thinking that your Theo from Matrix... there's no Z in the Synapse so please keep the name as it said Synapse
Typical Cannondale. Good frame but cheap on everything else. Rubbish wheels, rubbish tyres, non-groupset specific cheap FSA chainset and cable disc brakes. They won't learn unless people stop buying them. I do however, like the choice of cassette with the 34-34 possibility.
Shimano doesn't make cranksets with 30mm spindles, hence the FSA cranksets. If you go a little higher up in the price range, the bikes are specced with Cannondale's own SL cranksets with FSA chainrings.
cable disc brakes, why bother, gtfo
They offer less modulation than hydraulics but still better brakes ...
Because that's the price point. You want hydraulics, you'll be paying far more.
Got hydrolic brakes on a sub £1000.00.
First view and like
Gross looking bike, stupid that they got rid of rim brake version.
