I grew up and still live east coast VA for just over 30 years now. King's Dominion was always the better park but Busch Gardens is an hour closer so we always went there more often. Once I could drive myself, my friends and I would always go the extra hour to Kings Dominion instead. KD has also dropped in quality since Paramount sold it so only time will tell if this new area expansion can help revitalize the park. BG has always felt like the same park for 25 years now with just minor tweaks here and there.
Both parks are my HPs. IMO both parks have a lot to offer. BGW doesn't have a bad ride and has a really well rounded lineup. However, KD has a elite 1-2 punch with TT and I305, not to mention the on-site waterpark. I do think the Wing Coaster will put KD back in the fight however, BGWs lineup is still on another level. It would take in my mind another good crowd pleaser after the Wing coaster within 5 years for it to match BGW
If BGW builds that large scale RMC hybrid that’s been rumored, that may knock Twisted T down a peg or 2 so KD will have to go back to the drawing board.
As a VA resident, pantheon alone stole my #1 spot on my coaster credit list, I’ve always said KD had the better lineup because of the big 3, volcano, i305, and dominator, then twisted Timbers stole volcano’s spot when it retired. BGW has been on a role ever since they added tempesto, I can’t wait to see this rivalry take off after pantheon and dark koaster pissed on KD. Hopefully volcanos replacement and what they’ll eventually do with anacondas plot when that coaster goes (since grizzly’s retrack pretty much confirmed anaconda is next to go) is good enough to compete
@@CoasterAdventuresNow they’ve really been needing to spice up Dinosaur Adventures plot, Grimm woods is cool for the Halloween haunt but they could do so much with that plot of land
I agree both parks have their pros and cons. One is an amusement park and the other is a theme park. One more so a thrill park and the other is more of a family park. Both are about an hour and half away from each other. This actually benefits both parks for revenue and attendance. Both are awesome 😎 parks.
Even if BGW has a slightly better lineup, KD still has a good 1-2 punch and much more coasters. If you're there for just the coasters, I'd say go for KD, since tickets are much cheaper.
I got a season pass at KD this year. I like BG as well, but it's further from Richmond, and the layout of the park is less enjoyable to me. They have a lot of hills and walking distances between attractions. Water Country USA might be my favorite, but can skip it for a year.
Both parks have pros and cons. KD HAS TWISTED TIMBERS, INTIMIDATOR 305, AND DOMINATOR, ONE OF THE BEST ONE-TWO-THREE COMBOS ANYWHERE PLUS AN AWESOME DROP TOWER. BGW HAS ALPENGEIST, PANTHEON, VERBOLTEN, GRIFFON, APOLLO'S CHARIOT ETC. FOR A BETTER OVERALL COASTER LINE-UP. BGW STAPLES, KD DOES NOT.
Let's not forget the little detail of price. KD tickets regularly available for $40. BG picking your pockets for $86 on sale. You can.get a KD season pass for the price of admission at BG.

I feel that KD does need better theming, hopefully the Jungle section and maybe getting some WBD IP can help them. Thank you for sharing. It will be interesting to see how Cedar Fair’s new creative direction and commitment to theming enhance KD, especially since Jungle X is so well themed.
Yes, I loved the park under Paramount. Ever since then, it's gotten bland without the heavy theming. Like the Wayne's World cafe they used to have was the place to eat and now all the food options are just boring.

As I see it, 305 feels like the only contender in the competition between KD & BG. For me, 305 isn't a re-ride because of how much the Gs take a toll on your body. BG has a consistent lineup of coasters that have more scale than all of KD's rides aside from 305, & they all beat out 305 in terms of re-ridability. At the time of this comment, I definitely think BG is winning, but I have very high hopes with KD's plans for the future.
