Great! I have looked for those sealers as well, too expensive for me. You are very fortunate to have a great network of people there. Thanks & God bless.
The make and model and where I bought it is in the description. The canning pantry. It works great. We are about to have another canning session this week. Thanks for watching.
@nate7181 Yes, I was hoping to get the canner with a v-belt pulley groove in it but I will have to make one - It is too narrow to machine one in. Thanks for watching.
those canning machines are beastly, just great big hunks of forged metal that work like mules. Looking at them is awesome, pondering who came up with it is even more so.
Great investment! Although I'm a little shocked you haven't run a long belt out to the truck and used the gasifier to power that flywheel!! Keep up the great work. We all appreciate your 'contraptions'!!
@danzak44 Its best to use both. Big buckets can store more but if you open them up you have a whole lot of food . smaller cans are good less bulky easier to transport stored in metal can be safer than in plastic.
If an LDS member falls on his luck he also has access to so much more from the cannery. The LDS church owns and manufactures just about every item a home and kitchen would need to run. From bath cleaners, shampoo, dish soap ect, to Full pork, turkey and beef roasts. Macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, ice cream, milk butter ect. The largets cattle ranch in the US is run by LDS "cannery" same with many other farms. Im glad so many are able to find these resources.
Now that is really cool. I spent my day using a vacum sealer. Not surenhow well it will work in place of the canner, but I plan to find out. Did some sausage and hash browns and eggs. All things I got from Honeyville. Thanks for sharing the video of family fun night.
Thanks for sharing you sure made that look easy. Finding cans at a reasonable price might be more into the difficult aspects like setting the sealer up. Presently with jars you will occasionally lose one due to breakage but new lids are not that expensive. Rings can be reused most times. I found your video looking for instructions for the old Best Made canner sold by Sears&Roebuck I got on a trade a few years ago. It will seal 4 sizes of cans I think maybe the largest might be the same size that you used. Idk as it came without instructions and I haven't seen it in years but know where it is, it is exactly where I put it lol. In the rest of the junk hoard lmao.
We have used the LDS 8 times. We don't have a retreat ( yet) but are getting land with water source. We are stuck away from our home state, and In a smaller condo for now, we have manged to astore 2.5 yrs of food storage, ( who else has 25 lbs bags of wheat next to their Bed ? ( haha)! I have canned 40 lbs of Hershey Cocoa, in the Mason Jars with the Food Saver and Port attchment, and we have coffee canned this way.too. You can rent the canner from my LDS, I will try that for now. Thanks!
you could build a vibrating table to put the cans on while packing the product. It would pack the product tighter. Would work great for powder stuff like powder milk, sugar, coffee.
Awesome video! My only suggestion would be use a foodgrade mineral oil to lube the canner. As someone that is LDS I’ve been using those canners for decades they work great.
Cool canner! Question about the cans - are they lined with BPA like all the supermarket cans? Seems to be in everything from softdrinks to soup and vegetable cans. Strong evidence it causes cancer so I am looking to avoid most commercial cans. If these are BPA free it would be a great solution. Thanks for sharing a great idea.
the prices of empty cans are more then the can full of food from grocery store. How much did you pay per can for a skid? There's got to be a volume price advantage.
Just wondering, why the #10 cans instead of the 5 or ten gallon buckets to store your food in? Which is more economical, and space saving? Why did you choose the # 10 cans? Waiting patiently for the reply. We are fairly new to this and would like to know why you chose this method over the other. Thanks
That really is a fantastic idea. Roughly how much did the pallet of #10 cans cost? The can sealer was pretty pricey.. I wonder how may of my friends I could get to go in with me on the deal?
Fine for people who are happy to eat their way through 100 #10 cans of lentils and Great Northern beans. Are you sure that's the sort of food that would help morale as well as nutrition in a WROL/disaster situation?
I heard something about aluminum cans over long periods of time to be dangerous, due to some chemical change where the aluminum gets in the food and then in the body.
The LDS cannery here in South Carolina no longer cans their own items hence they no longer have the empty cans for sale....do you have another source you've used that you can share?
@misstresst The oxygen absorber packets he was talking about are the same type used in beef jerky packages. Basically, they absorb all the oxygen, which will keep the food from spoiling.
Would it be possible to use a sealed can like this as a "micro" Faraday cage? I wasn't sure if the metallic content of this type of can would be appropriate for that use.
@danzak44 Danzak, I am guessing he chose the #10 can over the larger buckets so that once the can is opened he won't have to worry about spoilage. Eating a 5 or 10 gallon bucket of dried beans could take quite a while.
What are your thoughts on something like the Foodsaver vacuum sealer that seals mason jars? Would it be as effective as your #10 can sealer or regular mason jar canning?
Great Video. May I have your permission to post this on the North Carolina Gun Owners forum in the emergency and and survival prep area? A lot of members would be interested in this. Thanks
Our last major buy was the Lee Reloade and, along with the 1000's of Store Bought rounds we have, this is a great way to make ammo and we have ammased a good bit! We can help friends reload, too, and this is a great skill to have for Barter in aWROL. I love my Model 921 Pressure Canner an dhave made 1.5 ys of beef and chicken and pork and stews and turkey in the canner. Until we get home, this is all I have room for.. I am looking at climate controled storage for now, till we move home
Great video! It's amazing how easy it appears to be once you get the hang of it. I wrote about this and posted a link to your video on my blog at If It Hits The Fan.
I would like to know where you purchased your pallet of cans and lids. The LDS canneries are no longer loaning out the canneries or selling empty cans. Thanks
i know you say they are expencive for a canner like that one but how expencive are they because i can think of all kinds of stuff that would work great for everything from chicken feed to small suverival kits to gun ammo the list is almost endless
CelticTechno I bought two pallets. Each pallet had 448 number 10 cans on it. They charged me a dollar for can lid and oxygen absorber that was 5 years ago.
4philipp size of the can You can get much more on a shelf not haveing to run a pressure canner or water bath and use a lot of fuel the advantage is canning jars are smaller and can be reused the smaller size is a better size for a famliy
@Myrmecia It's a great nutritional choice, and not starving does wonders for moral. If someone is complaining that they want cheezy poofs while people around are having a hard time getting food, I'd recommend eating them for the protein & to shut them up ... good for moral ; )
+engineer775 Practical Preppers found out there is one manufacturer making a tool to reuse them there website doesnt have any info on this so i emailed them and received a brochure thought id share with you guys. at $1,400 it would be best to split the cost with a group or possibly reflange a bunch of #10 cans and then sell it. i unfortunately dont live close enough to a LDS so if i had to purchase #10 cans online and have them shipped there almost $3 a piece so id have to reflange 466 #10 cans to break even (assuming you can get the cans for free wich shouldnt be difficult for most as restarunts/pizzerias throw them out) www.geringandson.com/
engineer775 Practical Preppers any idea where I can get larger cans? I've heard of #12s but can't find any. the largest I've seen are roughly 61/8 diameter x 8 3/4 height. I'd buy them if I knew where. Thanks for all your hard work!
I have my grandparents All American can sealer model 225 for sale if anyone is interested. It is almost like a piece of art to watch as it works. PM if interested.
please DONT use any veg based oil to lube anything.. it will just turn into a gummy mess.. your better off with a processed fish oil (you could use the olive oil to lube any place the can touches just wipe it away when your done). i have seen what veg oil does, im a chef and idiots use veg oil all the time to lube slices and it wreaks em
cute kid, I think all women had a meeting somewhere and decided that we aren't allowed to attach things to the kitchen table viva screws, and honey a drill press would be so handy there has never worked for me, niether has you can put a mixer blade in it too. LOL some how they don't think either of those are positives
@loganv0410 I've used Mormon facilities and they don't ask for anything except to buy supplies. I don't contribute to their church by going and paying so I leave a donation because they had to pay for that equipment & facilities. Networking, even with churches, works best if we give back if we can. hehehe, give back if we "can" I also give to the Salvation Army & shop. I personally "won't have any food" but I want a location people can go. Being a food source as a single household is dangerous
Where can I order this at? And are you preparing for something major? I went out and bought some hand guns and rifles after the elections. Rumor is its gonna get bad -_-
That's awesome the whole family is involved, this will help them so much having this knowledge.
@PauliesCustoms Check the description for more info. Thanks for watching.

@jknacasual Look in the description for make model and where to order.
Really fun project. I assume the cost of doing it yourself also saved you money?

man you always make great vids,im impressed and inspired thanks for sharing what you do and teaching us.
Fine for people who are happy to eat their way through 100 #10 cans of lentils and Great Northern beans. Are you sure that's the sort of food that would help morale as well as nutrition in a WROL/disaster situation?
I heard something about aluminum cans over long periods of time to be dangerous, due to some chemical change where the aluminum gets in the food and then in the body.
can you reuse the body of the can if you grind the lid lip off instead of a can opener?
If you don't mind me asking what were the costs of everything?
where did you get the pallet of cans and the canner from?
The LDS cannery here in South Carolina no longer cans their own items hence they no longer have the empty cans for sale....do you have another source you've used that you can share?
@misstresst The oxygen absorber packets he was talking about are the same type used in beef jerky packages. Basically, they absorb all the oxygen, which will keep the food from spoiling.
You have part numbers to add a motor and belt?

What is the shelf life of a can of beans/lentils/other dry goods with an O2 absorber?
What are your thoughts on something like the Foodsaver vacuum sealer that seals mason jars? Would it be as effective as your #10 can sealer or regular mason jar canning?
Love your video's! wondering if new paint cans (with lids you hammer on) would seal up just as well.
Mary Ratliff number 10 cans are much cheaper and food safe
Great Video. May I have your permission to post this on the North Carolina Gun Owners forum in the emergency and and survival prep area? A lot of members would be interested in this.
Thanks
could u use a one way valve and a vacuum also to remove the oxygen?
Our last major buy was the Lee Reloade and, along with the 1000's of Store Bought rounds we have, this is a great way to make ammo and we have ammased a good bit! Wow! I need one of those sealers. Where did you find those? Are those still made or would that be an Ebay item?
can u re use the cans later on? also u need a way to make more oxygen osober
s
PLEASE WHERE DID YOU BUY THESE CANS
Great video! It's amazing how easy it appears to be once you get the hang of it. I wrote about this and posted a link to your video on my blog at If It Hits The Fan.
That is to cool my Friend..... Once again I have been OUT DONE... I give up LOL..
Side Note: Many LDS canneries have can sealers for loan (free), but the waiting list can be a bit long.
I would like to know where you purchased your pallet of cans and lids. The LDS canneries are no longer loaning out the canneries or selling empty cans. Thanks
Monica Pigeon far as I know the LDS Bishops ware in California still does this was valid as of a year ago when I asked
Is there a big difference in shelf life between canning dry goods and Vacuum sealing?
Could you show the smaller cans?
does it have to be dried food? can you can things like spaghetti and meatballs or premade food?
Where can I find one?
how do you get the air out of the cans?
What did your kids think of canning everything?
i know you say they are expencive for a canner like that one but how expencive are they because i can think of all kinds of stuff that would work great for everything from chicken feed to small suverival kits to gun ammo the list is almost endless
@engineer775 I figured you were already think of a way of improving it :)
Thanks! for put such great content out
This question is for you and all of your viewers, where can I purchase one of these canning machines?
The can sealer was expensive but the cost was shared by 10 people. Networking and prepping are inseparable.
Outstanding!
Very cool and American made.
I WANT ONE !!
That's fancy.
I just received an All American can sealer 7502 for Christmas. Where can I get #10 cans and oxygen absorbers at a good price?
CelticTechno that is the challenge we got ours at the local Mormon Cannery in Columbia South Carolina.
CelticTechno I bought two pallets. Each pallet had 448 number 10 cans on it. They charged me a dollar for can lid and oxygen absorber that was 5 years ago.
Did you find cans that were reasonable? I haven't priced any but I need to put my can sealer to work or pass it on Idk at this point.
why does it stick to the top when you finish?
@evilmindedsquirrel That's actually an awesome idea. Drop in a couple silica gel packs and your ammo would be good for 30 years or more!
Whats the advantage of #10 cans compared to glass canning jars?
the inside lining is not safe
4philipp size of the can You can get much more on a shelf not haveing to run a pressure canner or water bath and use a lot of fuel the advantage is canning jars are smaller and can be reused the smaller size is a better size for a famliy
1cactusrabbit here, I like what you do. Similar to what we do. Would love for you all to visit us in South Texas.

EXCELLENT! Thank you for sharing!
Nice cans.
Thanks alot.
awwsome vid. i diddent know you could can at home
can you reuse the cans?
I have not figured out how to do that. They are not reusable.

@evilmindedsquirrel thats actually a smart idea
That is neat!
Now all you need to do is hook it up to a bicycle, and those 21 revolutions will only take seconds :)
@Iam1uglyguy Your right! I am throwing them away now! LOL
That's COOL!!! Expensive, but way cool!
That is very cool
