I don't care what anyone says, these guys are the best dead cover band around.
Austin Gale They are great, but I encourage you to check out Dead Affect too. I’m lucky enough to live in Atlanta and get to see DA regularly.
Thanks will do
Uhh, have you ever heard of DSO?
I have. Love em. Just like these guys more.
definitely check out the Stolen Faces. Based out of Nashville and absolutely killer performances. Shakedown Six is much smaller and based out of Knoxville, but I go to UT so I've seen them many times. I'd highly recommend them as well
The jazzy, '70's sweet sound we are all addicted to and crave. This band is the shit!
Nicolette Wilson you are not wrong.
No doubt. The transition into Franklins has a vintage, 70s smoothness I haven't heard in years. The high note solo leading into it does it too. But more than that, the Franklins still feels part of Help/Slip. In later years, the Dead played Franklins in a way where it felt totally separate from its siblings.
PLEASE COME JAM IN COLORADO! We need your live music to set us free.
They will be in Denver at the Larimer lounge on December 7th and 8th I believe. Hoping to make it out there from Kansas City Missouri!!!
The bass player continues to astonish me. His style evokes Lesh perfectly, its incredible.. hell, he even sorta looks like him!
Dan Horne!
One word for them magnificent 🌈🌅🌈🌅🌺🌅🌅🌈🌅🌅 @brbryantrogers Ig
I agree.. he nailed it
Daaaan Horne. Plays bass for cass mcombs too
He hold the band together. Saw him twice now, once with circles and then with the Shred. He is the man.
Cool to have two guys playing lead . The one with the upside down guitar is technically amazing but the other guy sounds like Jerry sometimes. Joy coming out of the guitar!
It's like they are actually a "The best shows only" Dead Cover band. Be honest, the Dead did not sound this good everytime they played.. these guys.. seem to be on point 100%. Love it. Well done boys!
Gonna guess these dudes aren’t nearly as high as most of the Dead for most of their career. 😄 these dudes are awesome and tight! 🤙🏼✌🏼
Get these boys a Chemist :)
Hope these guys put out a record soon. I see something like a Europe ‘72 style CD/DVD. Grateful Shred channels the Grateful Dead feel without slavishly copying their songs note for note. These guy should take this into the studio and out on the road so we can all be a part of the Grateful Shreds vibe. As a 53 year Grateful Dead fan I’ve seen many Dead cover bands over the years. The Shred have a take on the Grateful Dead’s sound that is uniquely their own and this Deadhead LOVES IT! Hope to hear and see you soon. I cannot wait to hear some original material from the Grateful Shred! Rock on guys. Come play at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin as it was one of the Grateful Dead’s favorite places to play. You guys have what it takes to make it big. Ill be waiting to see you live.
I love your guys style I’m taken back to a place that’s no longer in this realm or so I thought till I heard this video love it always and forever grateful 😇
My favorite of Lesh’s lines, this guy did him justice
DAN HORNE
amazing playing. super relaxed and in pocket, slightly behind the beat. real jazzy
He popped on my radar from Jonathan Wilson. Just awesome.
Holy shit, that definitely took me to outer space for a bit. Love it!
Killing it!!! I just watched Cumberland blues... I’m totally blown away!!! I’ve seen dozens of dead cover bands... cubensis... sons of the dead... dead project.... to name a few.... Dude you guys are the best!!! You absolutely Jam!!!!
Yeah, I've just found these guys too. They're awesome. I live in LA and see cubensis a lot but I will be going to see these guys very soon.
Totally agree Kirk. They are clearly doing it for the love of the music. Jerry would approve!
Better check out Dark Star Orchestra.
joseph stallings Nice! At one point, way back in the day, I may have been able to figure it out. Definitely had the cassette tape trading thing going on!
And when DSO does an elective that is pretty fun too! :)
I am being completely honest......i thought it was the GD in the 70s when the video started!!!!!!! You guys have it!!!!!!!! My mind is blown!!!!!!
@Robert Carter: Dickey Betts has said he'd start playing like Jerry when he'd listen to him for a while. I'd be willing to bet he loves this group.
Damn, those fills in Slipknot! So tasty
Slipknot is a tough cover... you guys totally nail it &~
@Andrew Capecci Simple songs are always the best imo
The audio quality is outstanding. I'd love to learn the recording approach they used. Def sounds like direct off the soundboard, but man, so clean and clear!
We can all dream, I'd be the bass.... All are excellent, not a weak link among them.
Out of all the bands doing this right now these guys really capture the sound. So fun to listen to.
I think the camera dude had the good drugs at this show
Acid Test set up does NOT go unnoticed
love these guys for doing this ! incredible !! I was lucky enough to see Jerry , Brent and the dead 66 times and then some again after Brents passing and then some again after Jerry's - what these guys are doing is as close to the golden melodies as I can remember ! Rock on Grateful Shredders !!
You guys didn't miss a lick.Glad I found y'all!
I was blind all the time I was learning to see. These guys are touch carriers!
Jeez. The mustache really ties the room together
i return to this video to jam at least every 5 months
BASS RIPPIN!
God DAMN this bass player really nails Phil's style. Great stuff boys!!
you guys look young and Im pretty blown away how well you are capturing the vibe.
He's playing a $150 Squire Strat, lefthanded and it sounds like that? Jeez.
I promise you its not a stock Squire
Jeff Healy played a Squire Strat with Evans pick-ups. His sound is top-notch.
I played a $155.00 Japanese acoustic guitar for many years. No one could understand why it sounded so good. Maybe? The guitar player mite have something to do with the sound. Like the pictures I take with basic equipment.
Right handed! Up side down! Great guitar player. Yes! Lefty
It's not the wand, it's the wizard my friend.
If I hadn't just seen the Cumberland blues backyard video, I'd think this was fake. These kids really capture that vintage vibe that we all love. Come play the east. Without any Dead & Co shows people will come out in droves for this sound.
y'all make me very happy! thank you for your tireless hours reimagining the music from the greatest rock band of all time.. will make a point to get on the bus at some point!
The vocals are better than a lot of dead shows
Absolutely. In some cases, vastly superior.
And Jerry's 👍 SMILE lit up heaven
Outstanding work best cover I've heard of
Got my ticket..... got my hotel room..... This coming April 4 Saturday night! One more Saturday night!!!!! Last time I saw a show at Ventura fairgrounds was circa 1992.... and it was the JGB!!!!!!!!
Smiling so big listening to this!
Ok... thought it was a flashback or the film was inverted... damn the guitar player plays upside down... wow 🤯 I've been playin guitar for 30 years and have never seen this; I am seein it? Brother your amazing, as is the whole band... and the music never stopped...
XaviorvorteX I thought I was seeing things! Wtf!
cloud9 - I know... right? Im 58 and seen The Dead many many times, I really enjoy this band, they got it!
Quite a few blues musicians used to do this. Albert King and Otis Rush are two famous examples. Hendrix, of course, played upside down but re-strung the guitar so the strings were correct. However, on occasion, when borrowing a guitar, he had to play with the strings upside down. He could do that well, too. There's a photo of him playing Tommy Shannon's bass upside down with Johnny Winter.
Upside down = Left Handed, No?
Eric Gales ,Doyle Bramhall II, Elizabeth Cotton , Coco Montoya and Dick Dale play that way too. @@ShakinSlim
Wow dudes. Everyone sounds great. Clay gets those fucking pretty tones. Wonderful work. Love the light show too.
Yeah, tou young whipper snappers are sure shreddin" it, alright!!! This is a long piece to play through! Thanks for posting this groovin' vid!!!😊
Made me back on days when I first listened to the 1975 concert at The Great American Music Hall.
Sam and clay killing those solos
bass player is the deal! his pedal steel playing in Mapache is also stellar!
Such a clean Slip...
So good. What more can I say. Jerry’s smiling.😊
Hope these guys keep up the good work. The world needs this vibe now more than ever. Terrific playing as well.
I fucking love these guys, closest thing to going home again
Ah man, this is the feeling
They've nailed the feeling. That's the hardest part and they've nailed it
Exactly 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Fantastic, you got the spirit...
When I close my eyes and listen it’s hard to tell they’re not the Dead but still same same! 🤷♂️🌹

These guys great!!!! ♥
Gooooood I love you, the real GD spirit is living in your tracks
Love the vintage sound/look/vibes so much. My best homie just moved to Santa Monica so I hope to see y'all when I come visit!
All starts with the drummer and bassist, on point!!
The Phil-Billy vibe.
This video should have way more views!!!
Grateful Shred, please do some Florida shows. Sunshine State Summer Tour 2018?
I would love that, don't think it would happen though.
The bridge was a tad rough, but other than that: Hate (or maybe love) to say it: They not only do the material justice, they elevate it in many cases (let's face it: Phil is right: after 1975, it just was not the same). This is such a soulful, swing version that I prefer it to the more jazz-oriented, angular playing of a typical Dead rendition. The harmonies are MUCH better than those provided by you-know-who back in the day.
And to think they are doing this on basic Squier and Ibanez instruments. Proof that the player can bring the magic to the instrument.
That Bass!!
Just caught Phil and the Terrapin Family band in Nawlins, seen Cubensis many a Sunday night at 14 Below and love them! Looking forward to Grateful Shred tonight in Baton Rouge! Don't get too many DEAD cover bands down here... Got my dancing shoes ready after listening to this!
Pure joy Damn .they got it perfect .
Love these guys 💀🌹🎼
Damn Damn Damn!!
These guys have the complete package. They play off each other perfectly totally hittin the groove
to make the song come together so effortlessly. I'm a huge GD fan and I think they sound like the Dead when in their prime in the 70s. The energy, sound and pure talent make these guys one of my favorite Dead covers ever.
Keep up the great work guys
LOVE LOVE LOVE!

They are the Dead! These guys are spectacular. I loved the video too! It feels like a true 60s experience when you see the videos of those years. Congrstulations for capturing the sound, the images in a way that feels so true! I loved it! I shared it with the few who know the Grateful Dead in Argentina. Cheers!
