The List Of My Favorite Terriers
10. Scottish Terrier
Origin: Scottland
Weight: 18-21lbs
Scotties were originally bred to hunt and kill vermin on farms and to hunt badgers and foxes in the Highlands of Scotland.
Scottish Terriers tend to be aloof with strangers and can be aggressive to other dogs if they are not properly socialized when young. Scotties are not low-energy small dogs. They were bred as working dogs and have lots of drive and intelligence that needs to be channelled.
09. Irish Terrier
Origin: Ireland
Weight: 24-26lbs
An old Irish writer described the Irish Terrier, “as being the poor man's sentinel, the farmer's friend, and the gentleman's favourite...These dogs were originally bred for their working qualities and gameness. The Irish Terrier is hard wired to be a thorough vermin killer.
Irish Terriers can't be trusted off a leash. Their instinct to chase after anything that moves is strong, and it is nearly impossible to call off a terrier who has given chase. Yards should always be fenced, and your Irish Terrier should be supervised when outdoors, as they have been known to dig under fences in search of adventure.
Irish Terriers are best suited for single-pet households. They can be aggressive toward other dogs and will try to chase and hunt cats or rodents.
08. Smooth Fox Terrier
Origin: England
The Smooth Fox Terrier is a highly energetic dog, and thus not recommended for first time dog owners. As the breed was originally bred to go after small animals they also have a high prey instinct, they are very friendly dogs and don't mind strangers.
The Smooth Fox Terrier apparently descended from the smooth-coated black-and-tan terrier, the Bull Terrier, the Beagle and the Greyhound. Both the Smooth and the Wire Fox Terrier were bred for their excellence as ratters and as aides to British farmers in eradicating vermin.
07. Mini Bull/Bull Terrier
Origin: England
Weight: 20-35lbs
The Miniature Bull Terrier was developed in England in the early 1800s, descending from the English Bulldog and the now-extinct. The original larger bull terrier was a fighting dog. Breeders created the miniaturized version to use as above-ground ratters (as opposed to “go to ground” terriers, who burrow into the earth in search of quarry).
White English Terrier. This cross produced the Bull and Terrier, which was later shortened to the Bull Terrier.
Miniature Bull Terriers are loving and, like many terrier breeds, they can be stubborn at times; but despite this they make great dogs for people with limited space.
Miniature Bull Terriers are known to be stubborn and courageous. Despite their dimuitive stature, they will readily challenge larger dogs. However, as with any dog, owners can reduce the likelihood of confrontations by providing appropriate training and socialization. They are very energetic and playful and love people, but care must be taken as they are variable around other dogs.
06. Patterdale Terrier
Origin: England
Weight: 11-13lbs but can be up to 30lbs.
The Patterdale Terrier is a descendant of the Fell Terrier, which originated in Northern England hundreds of years ago and was bred to control vermin, according to the United Kennel Club. The tough little terriers were bred to chase vermin out of their dens or stand and fight.
Like other terriers, the dogs are confident, strong-willed, and lively. In some ways they are stubborn, but they can also be very biddable.
These jolly pups have a lot of energy and enjoy playing, running, and fetching. Since they are a working breed, they are good at chasing and searching out toys, balls, and other objects.
05. Jadgterrier
Origin: Germany
Weight: 17-22lbs
Jagdterriers were developed to be all-round hunting dogs. Though often used for quarry that dens underground, especially badger, fox, and raccoon dog, Jagdterriers are also used to drive wild boar and rabbits out of thickets, and to blood track wounded animals, such as deer. Due to their intelligence and adaptability, Jagdterriers can make good pets, but it should be remembered that they are primarily a hunting dog with a strong prey drive.
Jagdterrier may not be the ideal family pet, though these dogs do tend to get along well with children. This dog can be a challenge to keep in the home because of their high energy level - they are more of an outdoor dog and they need a lot of exercise every day.
WATCH THE VIDEO TO SEE THE REST!!! - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
I cant believe he left out Border Terriers. They are also way more agreeable with other dogs then most terriers. They are SO versatile and can live in almost any environment. Not to mention also one of the healthiest dog breeds!
Not just that but they are one of the toughest and loyalist
And beautiful with their seal noses.
ulswater😂
It's his list isn't it?
Glad the Airedale made the list - I have a mixed Airedale Welsh Terrier and can tell you that while they’re quite challenging and mischievous, they’re incredibly quick to learn. Mine has learned to even walk off leash with me around town and the office.
I’m glad you started to get on camera bro. Your killing it. I always learn something. Thanks for doing it brother.
Thanks for the video Zeke. Excellent content as always.
Love your channel and keep it up. Me and my english bull terrier always chill on the couch and check out your vids
Your Dogumentary Content is top-notch and your pipes (voice ) are world-class. Thank you for sharing your talents.
Always impressed with the production value of your videos. You rock!
Really need to check out the Decker Rat Terrier I think it would bump a few of these down a notch! Glad to see you posting again!
Terriers all round are Amazing breeds ! Great to see patterdale terriers in the top 10 Patterdales Unite 🐾🙌
welsh terriers are a lot funnier : ua-cam.com/video/oUK_rI2JeGk/v-deo.html
Great video! Proud owner of an American pitbull terrier 👌 much love from Houston TX
I’m the proud owner is a Staffordshire Bull terrier but I love pit bulls as well. Obviously they have different physical looks the pitbull being slightly taller etc my goodness for character & temperament you couldn’t tell them apart, they both awesome breeds. Sadly the Staffordshire bull terrier is quite rare in America and the pitbull ate rare in England where I live but I’ve met a few pits and their just like staffies aka Staffordshire bull terriers. Love Staffies love Pitbulls!
Seriously can’t wait for the Jack Russell video!!! Soooo excited!!!
Nice video. They are all beautiful ! Very good choice for 1,2 and 3. I love the jack russels
Love your videos mate , it's nice to see a true dog lover make such interesting and informative content.
came for the dogs, stayed for the top notch audio set up this guy has. my ears very much enjoyed how good this video sounds.
You do such a good job - can you do your dogumentary magic on the Manchester Terrier?
You produce genuine, high quality, informative videos. Creators like you make the world better. Keep doing the Lord's work and God Bless.
Also, would love to see more about Irish Terriers. There is not much out there about them.
Nothing like an Airdale!!!!
welsh terriers are a lot funnier : ua-cam.com/video/oUK_rI2JeGk/v-deo.html
I’m getting my 4th in 20 years! Only dog for us... Happy smart tough loyal funny and NO SHEDDING!
I have a fourteen year old jack Russel mix he really didn't start slowing down until he was around twelve
I LOVE this channel. Thank you; and so proud of your work young brother. Love those little crazy cute terriers :-)
What I love about your videos is that you pretty much get right to the point..not a whole lot of yadayada..keep it up..you are doing great
Great video Zeke. Thank you 👍
Staff's are the fantastic animals, I've had two and they were both so lovely to be around they changed countless people's minds about the bull and terrier breed complex. Cant recommended them enough.
Staffordshire looks great
They are. Had one
Irish terrier looks dope!
I got a Irish terrier and a welsh terrier they catch so many rats very good
I wish mine would! We had a mouse and he didn’t even care, just looked at it for a sec than ran outside to play ;)
Just lost mine other week he was awsome like hanging around with a popstar
I’ve got a Irish Terrier myself great with kids totally loyal to them and myself absolutely great dog for family and home
I’ve had to chase my Irish terrier when he tried to run away I was fortunately able to catch him it was like a 15 minute chase until I caught up to him I was like on his tail the entire time. I was scared I wouldn’t catch him
Great video give you all my love thanks for sharing wish you a great sunday big hugs to you and thanks
Yes for Irish Terriers! Love them but rarely see anything about them!
Great video would have loved to see the Kerry Blue Terrier on the list
TERRIERS ARE THE BEST DOGS! Rat Terriers are #1 for me, but I love so many others... JRTs, Patterdales, Airedales, Bull Terriers, Staffies, Jagds... all muscular, smart, mischievous working dogs with hearts of GOLD
Patterdales are crazy protective and a great small guard dog but amazing with kids
I’ve had min pins growing up but rescued a half min pin half rat terrier. Little dog, big personality. Loves rides in the car, scoping out the neighborhood and memorizing where the chipmunks are hanging out. He acts tough but wouldn’t hurt a fly. Rescued 5 years ago and has helped tremendously through alcohol sobriety and depression. He’s not a huge fan of kids unless they’re well trained but I’d recommend a rat terrier to anyone looking for an energetic, loyal, cuddly little buddy.
Great job as usual...btw, love the mic you used.
Vid quality and production is awesome. Love it. And your voice is amazing. I sing bass. I dig.
Great video as always
I’m a terrier guy and thanks for your awesome content 👍🏽
I really like your content. I am looking forward to the parson/ jack russell terrier episode
Great video. Bravo🙂
You are missing the best of them all... a border terrier, a true beauty
Yes Greta I’m a lover & owner of a Staffordshire bull terrier but my mum has two Border terriers and their super dogs. Full of character life with a beautiful temperament. After a Staffie Border terriers are my favourite breed😍
Love all the terriers, strong with so much energy. Our JRT is the best. And we have a cat. super hunter in the garden.
Love your videos
Raised Airedale’s with my family. Very intelligent with natural protective instincts.
I adore ! the terrier breeds. My heart will always go to the miniature bull terrier
I have my own mixed terrier dog; even though he's not a pure terrier breed we love him and he got the ability to make us happy.
I'm watching this with my Irish terrier, Odie, laying next to me. I'm happy he made the list 😂
Great list I have an amstaff best dog I've ever owned , everything you want in a companion. Friend and by the way house protector
I really would love to get a Jack Russell terrier someday and I am so excited to watch the video when you get to that. I enjoy your work so much! Thank you so much and I know so many other people are so grateful for all the hard work you put into this! It really shows your love for responsible breeding and they are fantastic!
If you can put the work it and let them do what they were bred to do get one, they are the most loyal and best dogs. One of the most healthy to.
Let’s hear it for #2. My pups are mini JRTs with German Shepherd attitudes.
Was hoping to see the Boston terrier make the list but still can't complain some great terriers with some great information!
Glad to see Jacks on the list. My girl is seven this year and just starting to slow down. Because we've always included her in our day to day life and kept her occupied, she has never chewed up a single item of ours or really caused any trouble at all. She mostly lays on her bed until it's time for the next adventure outside. Without wanting her to though, she's killed many rabbits and moles. It's just her way.
Terriers are the best and loyalist dogs out there especially the apbt was bread to have heart ❤️
Yes. And bulldogs. Thats what make a pit. Across between those two.
Bread to make a sandwich
Same as the English Staffordshire Bull Terriër.
First time here. Subbed, I love dogs and other animals. So I will stick around for a while and see what I see!
No love for the Rat Terrier? 🤷🏻♀️ They are my favorite 😊
Agreed! One of the BEST
I came here hoping to see the rat terrier! They’re such babies!
I have a rat terrier and she a true terrier
Have a teddy and a ratteier
True love
My Rat Terrier (Decker Variety) has pinned a coyote and treed a mom and 2 bear cubs just this week! He listens better than any dog we've owned, only issue is strangers coming to the house which some people would like.
Dogumentary TV Has Me Patiently Waiting For The Xoloitzcuintli
😔🇲🇽🇺🇲😂😁👍
Ive never met one (im from the Netherlands). A very freaky but beautiful dog (unlike any other breed) hope to meet one some day.
Lookin slim there Zeke!!
Love my Irish terrier. He is nothing but trouble but he loves hard and is an excellent watchdog
We am about to adopt a staffy/jack cross. Looking forward to see how that mix come out.
I love your documentaries. Could you please do a doco on the Australian Silky Terrier?
Love them all!
I have a Parson Terrier cross and a Lakeland Terrier (and a GSD x Collie) but I love a terrier and I LOVE training them. They have such great focus and if you can get that on you youll have the greatest dog !!
Jagdterriers are the best. Had one for 17-18 years, grew up with it, best dog ever.
welsh terriers are a lot funnier : ua-cam.com/video/oUK_rI2JeGk/v-deo.html
I’ve got 2 patterdales. Lovely girls. They were tiny when we got them. Their weight has doubled now.
I love Kerry Blue, Wire fox and welsh terriers❤❤ I have a pitbull mix that is 75 lbs and has coloring like a boston terrier
Those staffies are GORGEOUS
Solid list.
Waited a long time for the terrier list. It was a good one no doubt... 🙏😔 👊😎💯💯💯
Great video you should do, top 10 herding breeds or just farm dog breeds
That Jadgterrier looked very vicious, thumbs up.
Niiles Punkari they are
The Jagdterrier here looks like its has been “trained” in bite work for sport/fun/hobby the dog is probably a big sook at home.
American Pit Bull Terriers are most certainly terriers.
The game part of the Pitbull, its fighting instinct comes from the Terriers used in the breeds creation. All British Terriers are game!
*Duke Nuke Em see how a war starts..*
@@neilmurray7842 My dad had a border terrier, he was very crazy. Calm most of the time but try to pick him up and he would go nuts, some dogs he didn't like as well but there was a lot he did get on with, mainly small dogs his size he didn't like.
@@jimmynich4791 I have a border now he is mental he could hunt 24 hours 7 days a week. He protects my Labrador and Golden Retriever any dog goes near them he goes crazy lol
It's in the blood... Their genetic make up.....
The Parson's Terrier is taller than a pure Jack Russell. Pure JRTs are small, muscular, quick and are working dogs. The Parson's is sleeker, but just as much as a working dog as the JRT. I have a Jack Russell and I can tell you now, you have two types; a barker or a digger. Diggers tend to be more quite and rarely bark. Barkers, well they are bloody loud. Both the Parson's and the JRT are loyal, friendly and active dogs, so an active family is preferred, as they love to run and play. They also can be cheeky and stubborn as hell. Patience is key for this breed.
My scottie is the highlight of my day!
Thanks for giving props to the American Pitbull Terrier. My first pit helped me become a better mom, and my current brindle is my running partner, my therapy, and my soulmate.
Love your video.i have a amstaff.she is so smart and loyal.
Missed you brother!
Great vid Gamebred APBT king of all dogs 🐃🐶💪🏾
Agree!
A very gorgeous dog too.I don't understand why people are mixing this breed with other breeds.
Excellent presentation! Thanks for posting! Slightly disappointed you excluded rat terries. Please keep up the good work.
Jagdterrier has so much potential. This guy could be crossed with other breeds to produce something incredible. I like thier size. Not to small but still big enough to cause damage.
News that matter do you have one? 😊
#1 for me are the Jack Russell or Parson Russell... the long legged versions.
I agree with you sir....pit bull terrier is number one! But Staffordshire would be my number 2 on the list! I guess to each their own!
Please do a video on the border terrier best family dog with patients that rivals golden retrievers
Color me impressed! A dog video about real working dogs. Love me a Patt or a Jag ❤
Scotties my fav by far! These are a man's dog all day long!
Really nice
The bull terrier he is the most playful, sweet dog ever known (in my opinion)he have own personality some time I feel he's human lol but seriously you will never regret to have English Bull Terrier, and thanks for all your work bro
I have been impressed by their playfulness. They are wonderful.
Great video very informative Pittbull my choice too.
The pittie IS a terrier! I have had terriers my whole life and I used to breed English Smooth Coat terriers. I currently have a Jack Russell terrier and my daughter has an Am Staff/pitbull and another daughter has a Jack Russell that looks like it has some English Smooth Coat terrier in it. I am well versed in terriers. A Patterdale terrier will probably be my next dog! Thank for the great video!
It's a Westie every time for me,had 4 in the last 35years
The king was always making that list, long live the airedale terrier.
I grew up with an Irish terrier, he was a fighter! Then a cairn terrier: she was an eater. Then a kerry blue terrier, he died early of cancer, Rip Duncan you were so sweet. We had a small terrier that lived to 16, dont remember the breed, really small, used when hunting with horses. We have Welshie now. Would love a foxie
My number one is Scottish terrier. And ofcourse I love all terriers😊😊😊😊❤❤❤
They have a fantastic sense of direction too= which eats me to believe the have a very good memory.
All round they are rough and ready but have a lot of love to give,
Mine has a minimum of 6 miles a day, important to keep on the leash unless you can see for a good distance.
Love my Billy after having Stafford bull terriers , jack russels, British bull dogs and learchers.
Happy choosing and remember they are for the next 10 to 15 years. Regards Olly
The Jack Russell Terrier, my choice.....But I've got a 15 year old one named "Zap", that still acts 2 years old, lol. This little guy is ""My Right Arm" 💪😁
I love my JUG DOG. Jack Russell & Pug. They r def high energy & very fast. It's a big dog in small body
I've been around terriers from a child my father always had terriers, both smooth and wired haired fox, cairne, lake land, border, Jack Russel AirnDale, and I have a Staffordshire bull now. I just feel terriers are great they are energetic and I love them they have so much character and love people. my next dog will be a Boston terrier, as a dog and terrier lover I loved this video
I have 2 patterdale terriers and they bark a lot
its time for a extra long episode on........ BORDER TERRIERS!!!! :)
Love my Irish terrier
Best on youtube💯👊
Go to country shows they have the terrier race at the end absolute madness at the end.usually
I grew up having airedales around ; never more than 1 at the same time, but since it's my mom's favorite breed, she basically cannot live without them.
I also had a cairn terrier jack russel mix.. best dog ever. A complete psycho, crazy high energy, but so incredibly loyal and, suprisingly, wonderful with children. He had a special bond with my little niece ; she started walking him (supervised of course!) when she was just 3 years old.
My breed of choice would be a Norwich Terrier though💕
Nothing beats a Westie!!
No Wheaton or Kerry Blue?
