I admit, LaBrie's struggling in high notes in every live shows nowadays. But he is killing the low notes!! I love his low notes! 🔥 I notice he can't reach the actual notes on Fatal tragedy and Strange Deja Vu. Regardless, I love LaBrie. What important is he can still sing but not like in 1990-1998 times when he can sing very well in live shows.
I never understand people criticizing a singer in their mid 50's not sounding like when they were in their 20 -30 years old. The voice does change and range generally drops a little. It's rare to find singers in their mid 50s sounding as good or even better than when they were in 30's. Anymore, when seeing DT don't be surprise if James doesn't sound great. However, this week of the tour James has sounded really good, far better than the past 2 tours.
@@michaelebel8705 Those goofs didn't acknowledge LaBrie's vocal rupture that started all this. My main concern: does he have a vocal coach with him? Respect to LaBrie for his persistence nonetheless.
It was an absolutely fantastic show so go get your tickets. You won't regret it! Saw them last night in Connecticut. Here are the truths about this (particular) show if your considering going to one: The set was minimalist but the backdrop with projection which were implemented well. It displayed the (current) song title and projected stories which visually reinforced the lyrics. The set list was a very nice blend of the current DOT and SFOM albums. We were grateful to be able to hear almost the entire SFOM live (we thought we missed the opportunity). If you're a SFOM fan don't miss this. For the past 3 tours I enjoyed the sound mixing but sadly I can't say it about this (one) stop on the tour. The sound engineer completely dropped the ball. Mix levels were not well defined with MM's bass drum drowning out JM's bass to the point it couldn't be heard which is sad. JM's low tones sounded fantastic but the high ones suffered greatly. They just couldn't be heard. Unfortunately JM was not on top of his game because in several songs he just completely missed the notes> I guess the poor mixing helped mask that fact< I am sure the grueling tour takes it's toll. MM is a fantastic magician on the kit but was not well represented at all as once again the lower tones of the bass drum and toms punched through along with the extremely high/sharp tones of the cymbals but the mid tones were almost non existent. I didn't particularly like his (Faux) drum solo at the near end. If your going to solo then solo. And yes, he did miss a few hits but you'd never notice it from row 20 and back. JR's keyboard was well mixed and in my opinion he shined bright this tour stop. He was spot on and during his walk about solos he was just plain engaging. However his keyboard and JP's guitars both drowned out the other two in certain parts of songs which isn't their fault. JL's vocals & delivery were pretty darn good. He did miss some important notes in certain songs, his mixing was fairly consistent. He does a great job and is a charismatic front man. Love or hate him he is the voice of DT. A bit more vocal SFX were used this time around and I actually enjoyed them. In certain songs, JP's backup vocals were harmonized to make it sound like to or three backup singers and JL's voice was "Flangered" and" reverbed" which was a nice addition. I thought the backing tracks fit in just fine. There's nothing wrong with them when used judiciously. JP was great but not without some "hiccups" which (as mentioned) shows he's human too. I'm not sure if the particular venue presented mixing issues (I highly doubt it) but they should definitely get a few more ears on the sound because it could have been much better. Again, if you can afford it go get your tickets because this will probably be the last time SFOM will be played live in it's (almost?) entirety. Thanks for posting this video! I didn't shoot much because I just wanted to relax and enjoy the show this time around
Can I just say that James has been through a ton of shit, he has exhausted his voice with touring and is, I think more importantly, 55 years old. I wouldn't have too high expectations from him at this point.
Bruce Dickinson is in his 60s and sings way better. James needs to rest and re-learn how to sing without the whispering thing which lead his voice to crappiness. He's gonna end up sounding like Dave Mustaine one day
LaBrie is much better than IW&B Tour, getting better. But if they do tour after tour like they done from 2014 to 2017 his voice will be completely lost.
He sounded a lot better the first night in San Francisco, but still far better than that shitshow that was The Astonishing Tour and The Images and Words and Beyond Tour. The first couple nights are always a bit rocky, so it's too early to judge yet.
@@EetFuk8 don't get me wrong . because i'm also having a hard time with this solo-when i'm playing it in tempo of the song.. and i know how loud DT especially JP Guitar Sound, i had seen them here in the Philippines in their First Ever Concert here last 2017, and i was just like 10 rows from the stage - so every micro- movment of fingers can be heard from the PA.. :)
James should've just rested his voice for a few years... he pushed himself to much with the record/tour circle. Portnoy was right if he was concerned about that when he left. Thanks for the video!
I don't think I've ever seen JP nail this solo perfectly live (Basing off of LSFNY, the Live in Chile bootleg and other audience videos, if anyone has footage of him nailing it live I'd love to be proved wrong), that solo is hard as fuck, especially the sweep section.
I have seen these guys live countless times since 1995, but I have to admit, maybe it's time for another personnel change. They're kinda butchering their own material.
First time thay have played Beyond this Life with Mangini. Thanks!
an amazing show indeed...love it..yeah DT forever...

John Petrucci is FINALLY FREE with his wireless system.
Thanks for sharing - probably my favourite tracks from this awesome group.

Really wish they wouldn't use backing tracks
Never thought I’d see the day where the worst performance during a DT song was from Petrucci... makes me happy that he’s human :)
Denyul Music which song fatal tragedy?
John Petrucci in god mode
LaBrie is really good!
Ehm... I do not really agree... Sry :-( He sounds horrible. Really struggling... Poor JLB.
He´s are losing his voice. Year after year sounds more bad. (i dont speak english)

@@adrianaellig8897 Well, I'd say giving his age and the range he still has, Labrie still one of the best.
LaBrie is not souding good at all, which is unfortunate, he even broke the timing at 19:30. :(
He sounded a lot better the first night in San Francisco, but still far better than that shitshow that was The Astonishing Tour and The Images and Words and Beyond Tour. The first couple nights are always a bit rocky, so it's too early to judge yet.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
They have some problems in 19:30 :)
was JP struggling during the Fatal Tragedy Guitar Solo?
So what? He's not a robot.

Dreadful ending.
killer died. evidently suicide.
I agree. The story is amazing except for the fucking ending. I mean what was JP thinking to finish the story with such a terrible ending.
Absolute fucking shambles from 19:20 onwards, let be honest.
Damn John....not doing so hot on the Fatal Tragedy solo!
Damn I agree haha, but the tour is just starting and that's a difficult solo. I'm sure he'll have it down in a couple shows
Whoa he butchered that solo. Probably a fluke. He’s probably played that perfectly a hundred times.
I don't think I've ever seen JP nail this solo perfectly live (Basing off of LSFNY, the Live in Chile bootleg and other audience videos, if anyone has footage of him nailing it live I'd love to be proved wrong), that solo is hard as fuck, especially the sweep section.
Petrucci’s should practice a bit more
He'll recover the pace. I guess it's just tour beginning's syndrome. They'll get more comfortable
it's the in n out burgers. they were shocked how good they were.

Who would go?
