I know Olympic Stadium up in Montreal where the Expos played before moving to Washington D.C. is still standing and in decent condition. I think that would be a nice place for the Rays to play till their new stadium opens, plus it's also a dome stadium. Another place that is still standing is the Astrodome in Houston, they could easily get that up to MLB standards and have the Rays play their home games there.
Hi Adam ! Thank you for a great show !! My wife and I are from Orange County, Calif. but saw about a dozen games at Champions Stadium at WDW for Braves spring training. The Trop was originally built to try and lure the White Sox from Chicago. It then became a hockey venue when they didn’t get a baseball team after construction. It was then converted back to baseball when they got the Rays.
@@Steve-wo7gt He mentioned in the video that The Trop wasn’t originally built for baseball, just pointing out that it was, and then converted to hockey.
They also tried to get the Giants after the White Sox back out on the deal. They even made some Tampa Bay Giants gear. So yeah, the Trop was designed for baseball, but was used for Hockey.
Looking forward to the international travel more and more. Your plans mentioned in this vlog sound interesting. Would be interesting to see how many Woovians you find outside the US.
Durham and Montreal have already come out and stated they’re not hosting the Rays. The issue with Disney is that the stadium needs some serious work done. If you remember the ST game a year ago, the scoreboard didn’t work and concessions were a mess. Money needs to be poured into it.
I was one of the last people to see the Trop with its roof on. Drove right by it the night of the storm and they were closing the roads behind me. Took a good look at it on the freeway. Never thought the roof would go.
First, a moment of silence for TROP field. 🙁It would be funny if the Rays go west temporarily for home games to the available Oakland, Ca. Coliseum - former home of the A's. Weirder things have happened - however I expect them to stay in the southeast so local fans don't have to travel too far. Most likely the TD ballpark or the ESPN field. Both would require updates to MLB standards.
@@TheDailyWoo -Yes, that would be a last resort decision. Since I am 4 miles from the ESPN complex, I am hoping for that choice. They would need to make that choice very soon so updates can be completed in the next 6 months.
One outside possibility for a field for the Rays, if they want more capacity, is a football stadium like at UCF. The dodgers did something similar for a year or two when they first moved to LA, they played in the Coliseum where the USC Trojans play football. If I remember hearing correctly it was a very short left field, with a net up and a home run line 30 or 40 feet up the net. Would be…interesting, haha.
The solution will be complicated. The stadium is owned by the city and Tropicana Products owns the naming rights. Both would loose revenue if the Rays played at Disney.
This just in! ... Tampa Bay Rays to play at Wide World of Sports Complex! The great news is that Disney will use their "Skip the Line" ticket for games, which will ONLY cost $800 a game per person. Where do i sign up for season tickets?!!!
Hi Adam. Back in 2021, because of COVID, the Toronto Blue Jays played part of the season in Dunden, Buffalo, and then when the teams can cross the Canada - U.S. border, then the Jays played in Toronto.
@TheDailyWoo I agree with you on it being the whole season. I guess I ment me personally that I will go to a few games. Its kind of exciting to me to think they will be in Orlando in 2025
Honestly The Rays should work out a deal with the Yankees to play at Steinbrenner field until they move into their new digs. Just play exclusively night games.
This is exactly what I was thinking. Similar location, the capacity is about what the Rays pull anyhow. I’m sure that scheduling games could be problematic with the Yankees team that plays there. Only thing is dealing with the weather since it’s not a dome but beggars can’t be choosers.
