- In this video we make Wiley and Son Paper Mill from Carolina craftsman kits. This is the third structure in the three structure series. I share techniques for pealed paint with an aged weathered look and how to mix colors. Hope you enjoy the video and happy modeling everyone!!!

Be sure to tell them Jason sent you!
Another great video with another great build. Thanks Jason for sharing with us .
Thank you so very much Jim!!!
I very much enjoyed watching you build this structure. It came out looking great. Especially making the metal roof overhang, that's my next step in the kit I'm building. I can't wait to see them all together.
Thank you so much Greg, I really appreciate it!!!
Awesome job. The wood craftsman kits are so much more fun to put together than plastic kits. Can you do an old barn and farmhouse sometime? I’d love to see what you could come up with. Thanks for sharing! Tim
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!!! I'm sure I'll do an old barn some day. Sounds like fun!
Carolinacraftsmankits should put a cheap, starter kit on the site, something that if we warp and destroy not going to hurt the bank, yet if we do it right, gets us hooked on doing wood kits. just my thoughts, Say 9.99$

Very affordable kits for beginners.
Another fantastic build Jason! I think I need to donate a scale ruler to your cause, LOL! Watching you do everything with full size measurements is mildly irritating, but I suppose it works all the same!. Thanks once again for sharing your fine techniques with us.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!!! I now have an HO scale ruler. I don’t know why it took me so long to buy one. Thanks for watching!
that makes me want to runout and get this kit, but never did a wood kit before so that is probably not the one i should start on
Well the nice thing is if you do buy the kit you can watch the video multiple times to help you. I do have a video called Starting your first wood kit. I do hope you try a wood kit. They are loads of fun. Happy modeling!!!
👍👍👍
Hi, that was a very fast 53 minutes. You’re a great teacher. You always keep me engaged. This had been a great series. I can’t wait for the final reveal of the completed complex. It’s going to be awesome! See ya then.
Thank you so much Norman!!! It's been so fun working with Jeff Grove at Carolinacraftsmankits. I hope to do more with him. Thanks for always watching!!!
Fun as always to watch. Nicely done! One question: what are the rafter tails made of, how are they installed, and do they come with the kit? Thanks
Thank you so much!!! The rafter tails are wood and they are in the kit. I use white Elmers glue and tweezers. Don’t forget lots of patients, LOL. Thanks for watching!!!
What’s the prototypical purpose of factories and companies painting the insides of their windows like that? I’ve always wondered. Did you just use straight acrylic for that?
Yes, I just used acrylic paint on the back side of the window. I'm guessing if the window cracked or broke they would just patch it from the inside, not really sure. I feel it gives it more of a industrial look to the structure.
@@JasonJensenTrains Yeah, I see it on industrial buildings all the time, but never really understood what it was for. Thought maybe they were trying to defuse the light coming in or something. It looks great!
Just bought one Jason. I will follow along on my build to see how well it comes out!!
That’s exciting!!! Happy modeling Ed!!! 👍
another awesome video!! Keep up the great work! If you ever do a video dedicated to putting the acetate in the widows that would be awesome! Ive been working with the windows from Tichy Train Group, and I have been finding putting the acetate in a bit tricky....especially the double hung windows haha. Thanks again for all the help!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!!! I will definitely do a video on windows. They can be tricky. Thanks for watching!!!
Outstanding modelling as always! You're spot on about putting off projects you think are going to be tricky - I do exactly the same and they're never as bad as you think. :) The trouble is that the opposite is also often true - modelling projects I think will be quick and easy often turn out to be tricky and frustrating!! Ha ha! Maybe it's just me!!
Thank you so much!!! I agree and that's what makes modeling so fun and exciting!!!
Love this building! Excellent job, thank you.
Any special reason why you put the window panes in prior to painting?
A great build of a fantastic kit.👍👌😁
Thank you so much!!!
Jason, the papermill looks absolutely awesome (well.....all your builds do really) ,this building will look sweet on your layout.I can only imagine what your finished layout will look like when finished, but then again ,do you ever want it to be finished ?Take care and keep these videos coming, they are indeed fun to watch and very informative.BTW…..what do you do for a living ? Myself, I got my university degree in fine arts and now work in heavy construction.Hahaha….go figure lol !
Paul T in Canada
Thank you so much Paul, I really appreciate it!!! I am a freelance artist.
Jason Jensen Trains Are you more a cartoonist or more of a commercial freelance artist?
I try to do a little of both. I even paint.
@@JasonJensenTrains before university, I studied commercial /advertising art at college ,then had my own picture framing business....BUT ,the smart money was getting a trade and getting my journeymans ticket.I do find my artistic background helps a lot in my train layout projects, as well as my love of furniture making, metal machining(lathe &milling at home) high power rocketry ,1/48 aircraft modeling ,airbrushing and of course drawing & painting(wildlife mostly and fantasy).Yessir…..I have way too many hobbies (hard to find time for my real job) LOL
The reason I asked you ,was I could tell you have a keen eye for colour and detail and superb workmanship !
I use double stick insulation tape
Thanks for the tip Ron!!! And thanks for watching!!!
Nice work, no lights? Ooo could do without the bit of blues guitar every couple of seconds.
Jason, such a great idea to do a huge build like this and break it down into a series. Its like a book that you cant put down. I am excited to see the finished model in a scene. Thanks for sharing what you do, Rob
Thank you so much Rob!!! This has been so fun and exciting to work on. Thanks for watching and stay tuned!!!
Hey could you make me a sign?
No , sorry! Not enough time. Busy, busy
I am going to order this kit, looks like a fun build. Do you know if the kit comes with the CCK stair jig? Or do I need to add it to my order?
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!!! It does not come with a stair jig. Let me know if you have any questions when you put it together. Happy modeling!!!
Wonderful videos Jason. Really enjoy following along here. I'm a big fan of SierraWest Scale Models and I post my builds on the SierraWest Scale Model forum. I love your enthusiasm and the quality work you do. You're a huge motivator to get folks modeling...mission accomplished...back to the bench! Cheers, Ken
Thanks so much Ken!!! Happy modeling!!!
Hi Jason turned out great mate, looking forward to seeing them all together, I don't know if you are going to put it on your layout ? I do think it would look great near a siding ,looking forward to next video 😃down under Australia 👍 👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏happy modeling
Thank you so much Marc!!! I'm having so much fun working on this project. Thanks for watching and happy modeling!!!
Hey Jason, Have been going through all your previous videos and I felt compelled to make the following observations that to me just make your work here top shelf:
-Your productivity on kit building and your ability to maintain such a high level of quality.
-Your obvious enthusiasm that is infectious for the viewer.
-Not only are you building kits but you're also incorporating them into a fabulous layout...seamless.
-Your communication skills in speaking and illustrating what you are doing is deft and so easy to listen to and watch. I'll start your videos and not even watch while I'm at my bench working and just be listening to you!
-Love your use of multiple manufacturers with your structures and then coupling that with scratch techniques...perfect!
-Love your consistent appearance with the black "T" and the coffee mug! don't change a thing...Ken
WOW, Thank you so very much Ken!!! I truly appreciate it!!! Thanks for watching!
Always facinated by your choice and mixed of colors, and it turns alway right wow you help me a lot with my structure.
Thank you so much for watching and happy modeling!!!
Is there an advantage to weathering the signs after you cut them out of the card stock, or could you do it before you cut them out?
Either way works!
Another fantastic video. I have a question about the pastel chalks you use - I bought some but they don't have the same chalky texture your's seem to have. What type do you use and where do do you get them?
Thank you so much Warren!!! I buy my pastels at Micheal's craft store. They have to say soft pastels on them.
You made a major leap at 13:32 from walls being painted to fully assembled. Was there anything you ran across in assembling? Also, the roofing phase - how and what?
Very simple to construct the walls and then just glue the roof cards on. After everything dries you can start glueing on all the shingles. Make sure you paint the under side of the over hang of the roof. Hope that helps!
nice thanks man
Thank you Joe!!!
Great work as always Jason.
I have a question... why do mainly only build multiple story structures? I've noticed nearly all of your buildings on your layout are multiple story. I think you should build some single story structures just to mix it up. Not even adding the small room on the roof.
Thank you so much!!! I guess I've always been limited on space. So since I'm unable to expand out I always go up. I've always modeled tall mountains, tall trees and tall buildings. Thanks for watching!!!
Just remember, not all structures have to be huge. There a plenty of small structures that could be scratch built. Even if it's simple things like a small garage for a house etc.
I enjoyed your video Jason and am saving my monthly modeling "allowance" to purchase the 3 kit package. Nicely done on the model. Do you have any advice when it comes to cutting the opening in a slanted roof for the chimney as I really struggle getting them straight in appearance? Please forgive the "neophyte" question but it's impeding my modeling.
Thank you so much Rick, I really appreciate it!!! Those chimneys can be tricky. Sometimes I cut the opening to large . I then mix Elmer's glue and black paint to make tar and I fill in around the base using a thin brush. Hope that helps! Happy modeling!!!
@@JasonJensenTrains Thanks and will try your solution next time I'm in need.
Is it a factory to make papers?
If the kind like banana leaf, can be made into papers, slim, for ciggarettes maybe? Like "night ciggs b4 sleep = banana leaf cigg" maybe? It is alot i heard?
It makes paper products! Thanks for watching!!! 👍
Jason, your work is one of a kind. Fantastic as always!
Thank you so much Keith, I really appreciate it!!!!
truly incredible...but its your own detailing which brings it to life...
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!!!
Another great work Jason, you have inspired me to do better with my structure building, you have taken me to another level with my work here in Australia.
With this lock down I have spent most of my time in the train room building my own project using your techniques .
I look forward to how you do your signs on your Apple computer and what program you use?
Stay safe in your train room and keep up the great work!
I love this Building. Stunning work as well, Jason!!
Thank you so very much Martin!!! I always appreciate it!
is a great honor for me every time. look forward to more masterpiece from you !! please keep it up, Jason
Another really great one ! :) Especially that at the beginning I was thinking "Omg, 53 minutes, it will be too much". But not at all ! It was captivating the whole way to the end ! It could even have covered again the techniques you used in other videos (the chimneys, the metal sheets) without losing its interest. It is very inspirational ! Thank you :)
PS: What is this stone structured paper ? It indeed looks really nice !
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!!! The stone paper will come in the kit from Carolinacraftsmankits.com
Thanks for watching!!!
@@JasonJensenTrains Ok, thanks ! :) Have a nice day.
Thank you Jason for these wonderful videos on assembling and detailing craftsman kits. I will absolutely be using much of your process and tips on my layout structures.
Are you going to start with new kits when you combine them into one or are you going to take these three you've already built and put them together?
I will be combining the three that are already built. I will go over how to do that in detail for those people that buy all three. Thanks for watching!!!
Great Job ! I can't wait to see the next vid. one question . . . . is this model or models going to be on your layout ?
Thank you so much!!! I will put all three structures on a diorama base but it will not be going on my layout. Thanks for watching!!!
Another fabulous looking build.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!!!
Great build thank you for sharing
Thank you so much for watching Dwight!!!
That's awesome but then all yours are.
Thank you so much!!!
Beautiful structure!!
Thank you so very much!!!
Yeah, this build turned out nice, great job. Be even more awesome placed on a diorama or a layout, awesome...
Thank you so much Mark!!! My next video will show how I put this on a diorama base. Stay tuned!
