They already flooded half the population what does it matter if they flood the rest? No ones going to pay for those peoples homes due to miss management.
It wasn't an issue when it was just the danger of flooding a bunch of small towns downstream. But once the city of Houston, Harris and 3 or 4 other counties found out this could affect their drinking water, something is going to happen now. If 57% of Houston's water comes from Livingston, it will get fixed faster.
It looks like the high flow is eroding the toe of the embankment at both sides of the dam. Infrastructure maintenance is cheaper if you just wait for a complete failure, sadly.
I know that a lot of these structures have been there for at least decades or more, haven't been properly maintained/funded and such...but that's a tiny freaking dam with way too few spill gates and I've never even worked with dams or construction. Just like the other one that failed, it's not freaking *big enough* to support that much water.
It rains constantly in Houston and the surrounding areas which includes Kingwood, where they recently had bad flooding. A hurricane is brewing, so this would be the perfect storm.
If the lake level is below normal levels, then what is the problem. These reports still have not said. In other words it's worse than they are saying and don't want to cause a panic.

Yes, money was appropriated in the Infrastructure Law of Nov 2021. It was a start but there are so many needs it cannot fix everything. No immediate danger from the government I think I’d be packing up my shit right now
@dalereal7211 LoL! 🤣
Better hope the hurricane doesn't turn north.
That won't be good if it fails. When the government says nothing to worry about, that's when you leave.

My guess is people are concerned about the erosion around the edges of the spillway. Not a very informative report
This and Rapadam in MN is what happens when the government doesn't sufficiently fund public infrastructure.
billions spent on surveillance doesn't help dams, bridges, and roads.

Better get more money to Ukraine ASAP before any Americans get that precious money.
Appears that the people fishing don't care. Nor do the authorities who aren't asking them to leave.
Wow they're not bothering anyone. Mind your own dam business

Let’s be real, money is no object for the government. They lost hundreds of billions in Ukraine while our infrastructure erodes.
Nothing to see here folks. Let's stay focused on the important matters. What are the condition of Ukraine's dams?
What a nothing report, nothing about the 2 center gates not flowing water and the tarp covering said gates from view
17,500 cfs is normal release level. A couple of weeks ago it was over 100,000 cfs.

Name it lake Ukraine and it would have enough funding to build it 50 times over.

Well I'll be damned!
If only there was a way to produce power off that water and keep the water for irrigation and drinking. Hmmmmm 🙄
Is the water coming out of this damn able to be captured downstream by another dam?
Nope. The river flows into Trinity Bay - northeast section of Galveston Bay.
So what's the real story aside from media drama?
nothing, warnings go out automatically when they open. nothing abnormal. just news BS
