I think the reason for Madonna getting so much anger and pure hate is because she has never shown any sign of backing down or regret. The press and quite frankly lots of people hate that. She’s been this indestructible human, and a woman, which has made the situation even more difficult for people to deal with. And she still sells out arenas and is controversial in her own way. Quite a remarkable human being in many ways. Thank you for your in depth analysis and commentary, you are always on point.

I love seeing Madonna in interviews ❤ She’s so open, honest, witty and authentic.
I think it’s so sad that this was 1995 and nearly 30 years later, she’s still being judged and having to put up with the same old comments being made about her by the media. Just that now it’s amplified as she now has the internet “trolls” thrown into the mix. She’s absolutely right though… they’ll be kissing her ass once she’s gone!

Can't wait for you to get to Evita, I'm not quite sure how you would do it? You've got Don't Cry for me Argentina, You Must Love Me, Another Suitcase in Another Hall, Buenos Aires & Rainbow High are probably the best songs to do, but it would be so worth doing the whole movie in sections.

This was the first time I'd seen this interview in full and I loved it. Madonna really has whatever that special thing is and more of it than anybody else. The more she tells the world about herself, the more interesting she becomes, and that's rare. XxX

This is one of Madonna’s most intimate interviews. Like you said, she opens up about many topics, specially regarding her future family. She got one thing wrong though: she mentions she wants 2-3 children and she currently has 6 😅 by that time she gave a few more interviews showing vulnerability, which was good not just for us to get to know her better but also to prepare people for evita, making the world see that there was more to her than controversies. So glad you enjoyed this! This was such a lovely surprise from you. Now, I hope you enjoy the evita era too 😊 it’s one of her best

We're very excited for the Evita era - Can't wait to hear the music (and feel the nostalgia for Buenos Aires).
And yes, she did underestimate the number of children she would have, didn't she? 😉❤️

Hi Emily and Brenda. Albert from Phoenix, Arizona. Just wanted to say love watching your reaction to Madonna videos and interviews. The world needs more people like you open minded and positive individuals. Not sure how this goes first time ever commenting on here. I am listing three youtube videos on Madonna that you need to see, not sure if someone else has recommended them. Madonna on Johnny Carson 1987 duration 15 mins, Madonna 1987 interview with Jane Pauly duration 43 mins, this one is probably the first long interview and Madonna Primetime Live 1995 duration 15.23 minutes. Can't wait to see your reaction. Both take care.

This was around the time, maybe a little earlier, she started making very careful choices on what she said. The moments you see her pausing to think. She was still Madonna, but we were getting to see the softer edges. She was either pregnant or about to become pregnant. I think that's why she turned the conversation away from it.
She did end up a teacher, just not a "conventional" one. I know she was my teacher on life, on how to carry yourself to the outside world while remaining true to yourself. She was the best teacher I ever had.

Love your reaction to this great interview, she is not usually too receptive to female reporters, but was great in this one. For the Evita era, please rest to her Oprah Interview, maybe break it into two video’s, so you can react to the whole thing, it’s by far one of her best and most candid interviews after her daughter’s birth.😊❤

    Hello Ladies!
I hope this finds you well. I remember watching this interview on VH1 hahaha.
I wanted to share a not so nice story involving Patti Lupone (Diva to the max) who originated Evita on Broadway.
Patti LuPone is not a Madonna fan, clearly. The Broadway legend went off on Madge during Tuesday’s (May 9 2017 ) episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, where she made it clear she doesn’t care for Madge’s singing, acting, or anything else, really.
The American Theater Hall of Famer took particular issue with Madonna’s portrayal of Argentina’s Eva Peron in the 1996 movie musical Evita, a role LuPone originated on Broadway in 1979. “I thought it was a piece of s-t,” she told host Cohen. “Madonna is a movie killer.”
The two-time Grammy and Tony Award winner went after Madonna when a caller asked if the two had ever spoken about their shared performances as the late First Lady of Argentina. She explained that she was performing in Anything Goes while Madonna was making her Broadway debut in David Mamet’s Speed the Plow in 1988 when a press agent put a sign up that said “there was only one diva allowed” in the theater at a time.
LuPone got a snicker out of that, but quickly followed up by saying that the only words Madonna has ever spoken to her were: “I’m taller than you.” That hurt, but LuPone was not nearly done. “She’s dead behind the eyes. She couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag. She should not be on film or on stage. She’s a wonderful performer for what she does, but she is not an actress.”
This made me despise Patti. All she did was put another woman down instead of lifting her up. (Then again Madge does her own lifting)

    • @briandubois-gilbert8182
      @briandubois-gilbert8182 6 місяців тому +1

LuPone had her time and acclaim portraying Evita on Broadway. She had worn-out the stage playing that role. You’re right, she felt entitled to play the film role. She has a reputation as a diva with a difficult personality. She was miffed when she was not considered for the Evita film, after Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli, were considered; Michelle Pfeiffer and then Meryl Streep both dropped out after being chosen for the role, and Madonna ended up being chosen by Alan Parker, Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Tim Rice. LuPone should ask these 3 why she was passed over instead of hating on Madonna.
LuPone and Madonna don’t know each other personally or professionally. Her disparaging remarks about Madonna which she aired before Andy Cohen-another Madonna basher-made her sound like sour grapes, mean-spirited, petty and jealous. It’s doubtful Madonna ever made that comment about their height-Madonna is much too smarter to say something like that. Madonna throughout her career had graciously honored, paid tribute to many artists who had inspired and influenced her. She has acknowledged them in her artistry. She has collaborated with many other artists and inspired/mentored many other younger ones. In many recorded interviews, it’s rare if ever she’d shade another artist she doesn’t know out of jealousy or just to be mean-that’s not her style and character.

So glad you covered this 1995 interview. ❤your insight and reaction. Her detractors were writing her-off here, a little over a decade into her career-little did they know she’d be producing more albums, music videos, selling out 8 more world concert tours way into 2024, and by 1996 she’d proved her doubters wrong by scoring her great acting/singing achievement in Evita. After the success of Evita, director Alan Parker said that Madonna played a big part in that success which I thought was an understatement. The film had a budget of $55M and grossed $141M in the box office-not including the revenue from the sale of the soundtrack album and singles-giving a handsome $return to the film producers Robert Stigwood, Alan Parker and Andrew Vajna. Most likely, Madonna’s global fandom accounted for that box office and soundtrack revenue. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice received their Golden Globes and Oscar awards for the song You Must Love Me which Madonna performed in the film and during the Oscars. True to her artistic passion, Madonna sacrificed money to get to play this role. She accepted a flat fee of $1M and waived the usual % of the box office revenue. She devoted nearly 2 years of her life for this film, where she could have instead made tens of millions$ more had she not shelved her Bedtime Stories world tour. Alan Parker could not secure the approval of the use of the historic Casa Rosada executive mansion for the balcony scene where Eva Peron gave her famous last speech, and where Madonna sang Don’t Cry For Me Argentina. It was Madonna’s personal initiative and charm that won over Carlos Menem, then Peronist President of Argentina, to approve the filming at that building that gave the film authenticity. Sure Madonna received the Golden Globes award for Best Actress in a music drama, but was snubbed at the Oscars. But despite that, Madonna graciously performed You Must Love Me at the Oscars which host Billy Crystal acknowledged. For Madonna, it was vindication enough that she can tackle the theatrical modern opera -like singing and acting for Evita as good as any of the established artists that was considered for the film. I think the best reward that she got out of Evita was earning the admiration and ardent loyalty of the Argentines and Latin America where Eva Peron is idolized. As fate would have it, it took a pop music and cultural icon in Madonna to portray a spiritual and political icon in Eva Peron. For this, Madonna is revered and beloved in Argentina just like their soccer heroes Maradona and Messi. The Argentines will show this admiration and love when Madonna returned 13 years later in 2008/09 during her spectacular sold out Sticky&Sweet tour in Buenos Aires where she serenaded the adoring audience with a beautiful and touching You Must Love Me and Don’t Cry For Me Argentina. This was a legendary show.
