    Yes, I'm taking a little break from my current Crysis map, Hongzhou Harbor, and I'm heading out in the woods of Cyrodiil instead. It's nothing special, really, it's just me walking the country side. Enjoy the vid!

    Oh my god. I heard the soundtrack in the background, and I was instantly hit my an arrow of nostalgia. It's so long ago I played oblivion, I can't even remember most of it, but when I heard the music and heard the sound of the trees, I was about to cry. I feel like I just got a sweet touch of a forgotten childhood. I can remember all of it now. All the quests, all the soundtracks, all the locations... from nothing but the sound of the game... I love bethesda...

    This game was able to harmonize all aspects of an RPG that make it great. The music, atmosphere, HUD, landscape, questing journal, and overall feel of the game played off of each other to an outstanding degree.
    Skyrim, on the other hand, was not as immersive as Oblivion because certain elements did not feel like they fit the game very well. Even though the inventory system was far superior to Oblivions in terms of navigation, the artistic design felt incongruent with the style of the game.
    Oblivion had this folklore/old world theme to it, and the visual elements had complimented that. If you don't know what I'm talking about, compare the loading screens of Oblivion to that of Skyrim, and you'll feel a huge difference.

But, i'm afraid, this game needs some changes to motion, fight, locational damage, weapons damage, armour rating and maybe even for followers like in Skyrim. I like all three last Elder Scrolls games: Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. And i think all of them are unique in their own way.

    Hard to believe all these comments which say Oblivion's graphics suck... I personally love them. I played Skyrim first, had incredible memories with it and it's just one of my favourite games ever. To me, everything in it is perfect, even though it's very flawed. But that's what subjectivity is about; one's own feelings. And my own feelings about the game say that it's perfect, despite its obvious imperfections (e.g. repetitive voice actors, many of your decisions do not affect the game, the game is too easy; you are told where you have to go, you are a meaningless character the vast majority of the time despite your high status), and to me it's just the best Elder Scrolls game out there.
    However... putting feelings and emotional attachments aside, Oblivion is just the better game. Skyrim is superior in certain aspects (e.g. graphics, level-up system) but Oblivion is so much more superior in most aspects. The story-telling, the quests are AMAZING, the graphics aren't as good as Skyrim's but they are stunning nonetheless, and even if for today's standards they aren't great (still decent, however), what it lacks in graphics it absolutely makes up in atmosphere. Skyrim's atmosphere is beautiful; I actually loved the grim, dark atmosphere. Some parts of the region are colourful and gorgeous, but it's generally grim and dark, which Bethesda managed to craft beautifully too. However, Oblivion has snow too, beautiful snow; but it is so diverse in its environment. Mountains, forests, valleys, beaches, ponds; perhaps it's just the fact Cyrodiil is a much richer region than Skyrim landscape wise, but Oblivion simply has a better atmosphere as a game.
    The quests are more realistic and immersive; Skyrim has good quests but they get repetitive and boring after a while. I'll admit they are what drove me off from the game... exploring is great, but it gets a little tiring after a while. The guilds in Oblivion were more realistic and just fantastic, the more you progressed the more fame and reputation you gained; the quests are genuine for a guild and they aren't personal unlike in Skyrim. The Thieves Guild main quest is about chasing a traitor, the Companions main quest is about killing the Silverhands; it's ALL personal. And these quests are fine, but they're short and nothing happens even after you're the Thieves Guild Master or the Harbinger. You're still irrelevant, it's not very immersive. In Oblivion it was. It's a more gradual process towards leadership, in Skyrim you're just bossed around by everyone and then suddenly you're the leader, but still barely anyone gives a shit about you.
    There's still a lot, but I'll leave it at that. I think many people who played Skyrim first will close their minds to try Oblivion... which is stupid. But it's also stupid many veteran TES players just say Skyrim is "shit" or it "sucks" or it's a "bad game". Not a bad game. Great, to be honest; it just didn't live up to its predecessors, though it was superior in some aspects.

      A.M. Arteaga as i am going to say for the third time. that was about the npcs and how they react to you completling a quest/ participating in a event in skyrim. destroy the dark brother hood in skyrim go see what they say lol, theyll just tell you that they could have done that but they were sick that day ot that they dont believe it adn same thing about you being the dragonborn. now stop reading selective parts adn pay attention.

    • @a.m.arteaga8369
      @a.m.arteaga8369 9 років тому

      anthony longoria
      I don't think anyone in Skyrim questions what you've done, some people just say they could have done the same as you as well. I don't think they doubt you (question you) as much as they belittle you, and I think some just belittle you because they didn't get to do what you've done. That's why I quoted and "???"d that part of your comment, I wasn't "reading selective parts" and "not paying attention".
      Also, are you sure your second comment would be the "third" time you said that? Kinda seems it'd be the second.
      And just to clarify in case you misunderstood me, when I mentioned "emotional attachment", I meant I have an emotional attachment to Skyrim, not that the game has emotional attachments between the characters.
      (Quoting me: "However... putting feelings and emotional attachments aside, Oblivion is just the better game")

    • @anthonylongoria2638
      @anthonylongoria2638 9 років тому

      A.M. Arteaga no youre not the only one to have seen just that part. so yea. three times. and no. they just belittle you and question you the majority of the time. for instance the guards tend to say somthing along the lines of rumor amongst the guards is that you may be the dragon born of legend and back tracks by saying that that can be possible, questioning you. destroy the dark brotherhood adn they pretend it was a simple task belittling it, no one acknowledges any of your feets in the war or even about ending it. when you are part of the companions they belittle who you are by asking if all you do is fetch them meed or by saying you smell like a dog. even just depending on your race you can be disrespected by you houscarls sadly lol. all in all they treat you like shit in skyrim. also i know what you meant, again misreading what it is im saying. developing a connection to a game where youre basicaly nothing makes little to no sense. yes, to you and some of your allies you are a champion of sorts but to everyone else in it. you are just a stranger.

    • @a.m.arteaga8369
      @a.m.arteaga8369 9 років тому

      I addressed what you just said.
      ("you are a meaningless character the vast majority of the time despite your high status", "in Skyrim you're just bossed around by everyone and then suddenly you're the leader, but still barely anyone gives a shit about you".)
      Which is what ticks me off from Skyrim. I don't mind people questioning me about being the Dragonborn though; the last known one besides you was Tiber Septim and that was from 2E 827 to 3E 38. Long time ago, so it's not really a wonder many guards question you about being Dragonborn, specially since only guards (and Irileth) who helped you kill Mirmulnir were the only ones to actually hear you shout and the rest just heard stories. Them questioning your Dragonborn status is just about the most natural thing in the world. They do start acknowledging you being Dragonborn after you kill Alduin and if you shout in front of them, but the flaw is that some guards (even after killing Alduin) ask: "You couldn't possibly be the Dragonborn of legend, could you?" which could just be a flaw, or again, just guards who heard stories.
      What bothers me is that despite your high-status you're still pretty much meaningless. Could be because there's no Internet and there's no way strangers could know you're Nirn's saviour, and that's realistic because they can't really know for sure what their saviour looks like (since there isn't really a newspaper either to begin with), but I mean, come on. One doesn't usually look for that type of realism in a game like Skyrim, one looks for acknowledgement and immersion xD I love Skyrim, really do, I just wish many things were different.

  • @salasvalor01

    As complex and amazing as this game was, and it is pretty much my favorite game ever created- Mass Effect took breathing realism to a whole new level in 2007, albeit in a linear fashion. I thought Skyrim should have adopted the Mass Effect way of interacting with npcs, both in the camera angles and the hierarchy of options. The npcs were up close and personal like in Oblivion, but also not fixed to one static pose.

      ***** Nah Dragons without mods are pretty dull as well. The only place that we felt the power of the dragon is Helgen and it doesn't leave enough of an impression like Kvatch. The emperor's assassination, cult members popping out from no where, gates outside cities. In Skyrim you can run away from dragons and nothing would happen. The dragon's threat was handled terribly.
      The worst thing about Skyrim is average cities. Sure, Skyrim is far north and Oblivion is at the height of the Empire but other than that Skyrim environment is so dull that the cities should be the focus outside of dungeon. Instead it's just another place. Oblivion architecture has been reduce in uniqueness already but Skyrim just makes it worst.
      Skyrim voice acting is great (for its size) and a head and shoulder above Oblivion though I'll give them that.

    This game would have not sucked as hard if it wasn't for the god-awful leveling system. If you've never played what this means is that no matter how much you level, no matter how strong you become it doesn't matter because the world levels up with you. Skyrim does it too but not to the same absurd degree.

      LikaPyramid Why do you think that Oblivion is better than Skyrim?

    • @LikaPyramid
      @LikaPyramid 9 років тому +1

      Wan Doff Well since your the first person who asks i'd choose Oblivion because i love treasure hunting and being a mage, these 2 things are unable to experience in skyrim like in oblivion. I dont know if youve ever played oblivion but you can decorate your house with all the stuff you looted across the map by just throwing it in your house and it will never dissapear (if your lucky) When i did the same in skyrim and left my house i only came back to discover that all of my precious shit has vanished, reset in the house, gone.
      Also the Winterhold college looks like an old rigged fightersguild or somesort of arena from the the 20th era... it doesnt even remotely look like a magical place
      (my high elf charracter wouldn't even set foot in that dump.)
      And unlike the crappyass wannabe mages guild everything in Skyrim looks dead, poor, either black or grey and wet. its a giant graveyard compared to Cyrodiil...
      Ofcoruse skyrim looks better and has better animations and shit but imagine if Oblivion was from late 2011 and skyrim from early 2006 eh.
      so those are the main reasons why i'd choose oblivion above skyrim. :p

    Since the comment section is full of raging horny nostalgic fanboys, I will give my two cents, coming from a person that played the game after Skyrim.
    Overall, I think Oblivion is an absolutely amazing game. It's stellar, and has grabbed me for hundreds of hours. I'll judge it by individual things.
    Graphics: I'll try judging them from an un-2015 mind. Overall, the graphics are pretty great. They're colorful, bright, and have a distinct art style that makes it unique. While the textures are muddy, and the animations are stiff, they are still very impressive.
    World: While generic, the world was well-crafted. The cities were large, the regions were varied, and it overall was exciting to explore. I was surprised by how much i wanted to see of this world, and how rich it was. It seemed like it was thriving, and that's hard to do. Also the world was large, so there was a lot of stuff to see. Also, the locations were varied. Ayleid Ruins, forts, little camps, farms, caves, and mines are all available, and then other things like abandoned houses and docks show up. Overall, Bethesda did a great job with making this world believable and able to be explored. There was not one part that wasn't boring for me.
    Sound: As expected from Bethesda, the sound is top-notch. The soundtrack is so beautiful, and I bought it myself because it was so good. It was atmospheric, but then it was able to be epic. It definitely hit the tone of the world you are in. But, I do have to criticize the actual sounds of your actions and other things. They feel stilted, repetitive, and overall don't seem to fit with what they are doing. Like the snowball sounds like a fireball. Huh?
    Combat: The combat doesn't feel that fluid. The magic combat does, and definitely is the most enjoyable to use, but he weapons are awkward to use. It's as if there is a hit, a block, and just go at it, because that's just what there is. Where's the variety? What about a jump hit, or a parry? And the actual animations are really strange for the swinging, and they're repetitive. Overall, the combat is floaty, and that's strange at times.
    Quests: The quests in this game are varied and interesting, also they are memorable. I can't count how many times I can tell you the Dark Brotherhood questline mission by mission, I could tell you about the crazy paranoid maniac in Skingrad and how he asked mt to spy on people, about this farm being taken over by goblins, about this family who bought a plot of land, but had it unsafe because of a raging goblin civil war, or about house that turns out to be haunted after you sleep in it. I am impressed here, and it definitely works in keeping replayability.
    Character: I have a mixed bag in characters here. I love the customization of the character, but the leveling is complete garbage. I know this is a strong statement. When you level, and when your enemies level with you is completely unrealistic and game-breaking. There should NEVER be a time when you have all glass armored bandits. Ever. The game basically encourages you to not level, and that makes it more boring. The attribute increasing for each level is not good in my opinion. I feel like I have a right to have an equal attribute increase for all skills. So basically, meh.
    NPCs: I think the NPCs in this game are not that good. They feel stilted, but that's possibly because of the technology, and the voice acting is repetitive and atrocious. It's as if none of the actors care. Also, the design on the NPCs are so bad. They're awkward, ugly, and overall completely unrealistic and unappealing. Interaction between you and the NPC is good, but the zoom in and pause of time is very immersion-breaking. The speech mini-game is great, and the dialogue is fine, but everything else is not that good.
    So overall, a 9/10. It is an amazing game, but has some really awkward design flaws. Not the best game ever, but not good or horrible.
    If I compare it to Skyrim, I prefer Skyrim.

    I just hope the next elder scroll wont be as gloomy as greyish as skyrim. Dont get me wrong skyrim is a beautiful game but the fact that the developers put a lot of grey-dark colors in the game downgraded it. Sometimes when I played in the night in skyrim it was almost as if the game was in black and white. And my PC played it with everything maximum. Maybe for elder scroll 6, they should use a kind of BioWare engine (mass effect-dragon age) because if they use the same greyish dark color, i wont buy it.

      Must be your pc then.. there's been just as great environment artwork on skyrim same as oblivion, if you mean all the gloomyness such as the weather and landscape of skyrim then that's the point... your not in cyrodil where it's all green and calm looking.. your in skyrim to the far north where it's filled with cold mountains and such, meant to be dark and gloomy

      It's not supposed to be colorful, Skyrim is mostly snowy terrain. If you go further south, like Falkreath and Riften then there is a little more color, but still dull compared to Oblivion, at least in my opinion. Places like Windhelm and Dawnstar are far north in the tundra region, winter or cold weather in general is usually quite gloomy. But I do agree with you. I appreciate a game with vibrant colors, just gives a better feeling to it. :)

They just bought the game because there are dragons and fancy skills, and they don't even know that it's an TES game and that they've been 4 more TES games prior to that. Well...
    I am from those people who never heard about the Elder Scrolls series before Skyrim. Throw all the stones and weapons you want at me but the fact that Skyrim made the series so insanely popular is undeniable.
    Looking at the game in this video I have to say tha the graphics are very nice even though the game itself is obviously aged a lot. If we remove the character from the screen the game cold be mistaken with Skyrim at first glance.
    About the colors: Obviously the reason why Skyrim is gloomy is the different climate. Cyridiil looks like spring/summer and Skyrim looks like autumn/winter.
    I have not played Oblivion yet so I can't compare the gameplay but I heard that in Oblivion you are forced to use the 1st person camers nice 3rd person is unplayable and there is no "one-hander+magic" dualwielding which makes me sad...

      Naru actually in oblivion theres also a march and snow area, and a forest area so. no to you reasoning of climate for color change. you can equip you magicka and weapons on at the same time pretty much going swing swing block fireball swing swing lol. lot more magick focus too then in skyrim, better potitions as well, more actions, more random questlines and challenges. the only reason ppl think skyrim made the series popular is b/c game informer and youtube channels of which werent very popular back in the days of oblivion. oh and dragons. which for me were honestly a let down. that and compared to oblivion the towns, villiages, and citys of skyrim are just way too small. like in white run there are only some 9 houses? yeah thats less then youd find in settlements in oblivion. so like reallytall midget said, you should check it out.

    I remember when I played The Elder Scrolls first time at the beginning. I didn't know anything about fast travel.. So I walked from Imperial City to Leyawiin and then walked to Anvil.....
    Damn that's was awesome.

    I still dont get how in 3 years a game went from cartoon graphics to epic atmospheric bone chilling detail graphics.

    Totally agree, I can't even count the hours i spent; hunting goblins around Skingrad's lush valleys, picking alchemical ingredients and hunting deer in the great forest, exploring the dry grasslands between anvil and kvatch, watching the sunset on Anvil's coast, sharing a mead and a tale with the nords in Bruma, working for the Fighter's Guild in Cheydinhal, cracking jokes with Argonians and Khajiti in Leyawin, jumping on rooftops in Bravil, going to the arena in the imperial city, good times..

    This game reminds me of the long hours I spent guiding my Argonian along his quest in Morrowind. The music brings a rush of nostalgia.

    the wolf enemys in this game look cute tbh.
    normally wolf monsters in rpgs are vicious animals out for blood.
    but here we have.... fluffy puppies.

    Oblivion to me is what I imagine when people say a Fantasy world like storybook, while Skyrim paints a grittier, more realistic fantasy setting.

    I played Skyrim when it was first released, and it's one of my favourite games in my life. I love the atmosphere, quests, design, soundtrack, pretty much everything. However, I have never before done Oblivion, and Im curious as to whether I should. It looks almost as good as Skyrim, and I generally don't mind games with bad graphics if they're actually good ones. Should I get it? Take note that I recently sold my 360 so I will only play it on Xbox One

      Mr . Turkey I recommend you play Oblivion. It is better than Skyrim, in my opinion. The graphics for realism in Skyrim are better, but there is so ! much more to Oblivion. You would love it if you love Skyrim.

    I plan to begin playing Oblivion for the first time soon, installed it already. But I don't dare to start now, because I'm afraid I'll get hooked, and I gotta go to a meeting in less than 2 hours. But as soon as I come home...

    Did everyone forget that oblivion, skyrim, and the other elder scrolls games come from the same series? if not for the elder scrolls series your beloved "skyrim" would have never been made.

    I wasn't angry. It's just he didn't have to write, "yawn," for that wasn't his conversation in the first place. If he didn't care for what I was saying, he didn't have to comment.
