I has the sad...Man it's hard to see the official end of "the cup era." 2008-2009 is what brought me from kind of paying attention to the Hawks to being an all the time Hawks fan. Johnny was obviously a HUGE part of that. So many great memories from that era. We all know that it eventually has to end. We know it when it starts. But it doesn't make it any easier to deal with when it actually happens.

Wishing you all the best in the future in everything you decide to do. Thank you for the memories from day 1 till the very end. You will be missed on and off the ice. It will be strange not seeing you on the ice with your teammates. Thanks for helping us win the Stanley Cups memories that will last forever. Also thanks for a great career Captain Toews and hope the Blackhawks do something special for you in the coming years. Good luck to you always Jonathan.
Toews is so classy he would never voice any disappointment with the club in a moment like this. If he's happy I'm happy for him. Typical of him to call out some of his teammates who had already moved on I hope his health allows him to get back on the ice for a contender. It was an incredible long run he brought to the city. Thanks Jonny!!

A bit late but I don’t think the Hawks have showed Toews or Kane enough gratitude throughout all this. I was expecting at the very least that their numbers to be retired. I mean, this is the longest captaincy the Blackhawks have had. Even if Toews’s health has made him a somewhat unreliable player in the last couple of years, you can’t deny what his leadership has brought the organization. For all that he’s done for them I also wish he got to leave on his own terms but it doesn’t seem the Hawks are too concerned about honouring the past as they focus on rebuilding. As Toews said it’s a business. Good on him for calling up all the ex-teammates that were with him through his best and worst moments. He has a level of professionalism and class that most athletes don’t, as evidenced by even just this press conference, and what a force to be reckoned with during his prime!
Between this and Landy's presser yesterday, hockey has me all bummed out heading into the playoffs.
Spoken like a true hockey player, look you in the eye, answer the question, pay homage to those who were with you when you succeeded and struggled. Pure class in this man.
