Pokemon Unbound - ROM Hacked

- When it comes to Pokemon rom hacks, there are a few that stand out from the crowd for their immense quality, attention to detail, and overall sense of direction.
Pokemon Unbound by Skeli is well known to be one of those games, and, in my opinion, continues to be the cream of the crop years after it's full, completed release.
If you don't know about Pokemon Unbound yet, it's basically a wholly original Pokemon game, hacked on top of Pokemon FireRed, with a huge new region, tons of customization, features and Pokemon that go all the way to Generation 8...
and some features that are even unique to itself, AND, on top of all of that, an actually engaging story-line that takes many creative turns alongside introducing many interesting characters and histories.
All centred around Hoopa Unbound, the mascot Pokemon for the game, but that's far from all the game has to offer. It is densely packed with content, and all of it is highly engaging.
To top it all off, it's the premier way of showcasing the Complete FireRed Upgrade, which Skeli also developed as a means to allow for future rom hacks to be more robust with even more features than previously thought possible in GBA rom hacking.
If you're not already aware of Unbound, it's the best of the best, and well surpasses the standards of quality of the official franchise releases.
It's a must-play, and I'm gonna tell you exactly why that's the case. - Ігри
Unbound is still the absolute best. None have truly reached it's level.
The name "unbound" is really just a name to show how crazy amazing Skeli's work on the CFRU is
Unbound is the go-to, these days. Gonna be for a lot of the 2020s, I imagine.
Oh man, it just occured to me that I haven't commented in your Mario Golf Super Rush video from 2 weeks ago, when I really wanted it to say something about it, I think I brushed it aside because I got other problems to deal with, I don't wanna to give much detals but I've being through hell recently, my dad got the dengue infection and mostly everything stopped here in my house, including production of the video I'm making, thankfully he is feeling considerably better and this week I will go back to make that video and others a reality.
Ps. I realize hell might be too strong of a word to describe the situation, but because of my anxiety it feels like at times, but you don't need to worry too much now.

I hope too that your video gets back into production soon, as I'm excited to watch it when it comes out. Obviously though things in your personal life need to take a bigger priority. I hope all is well, and that your father gets back to 100% quicker than expected.

Skeli is TOO GOOD!
I absolutely loved my time with Unbound. The only complaint I had was that the amount of battles against legendaries got kind of exhausting after a bit - but everything else was top notch. Even the cave/dungeon sections were enjoyable and those are rarely done well in romhacks.
Haven’t done any of the postgame yet, but I would like to at some point. Though I didn’t know there is a NG+ mode?? What carries over there?
I'm not sure what carries over, but I think it's just another level of difficulty and challenge. I remember reading somewhere that there was a NG+.
Pokemon Unbound has more polish and heart than anything The Pokemon Company put out on switch.
It's insane how much more effort and care Skeli put into Unbound versus what was put into the Switch releases.
When the franchises fail, those who appreciate the franchises will pick up the slack

@@Isaiah-jm5fn it's really crazy since these fan gams and ROM hacks are not for profit (and even if they were) they always serve as free advertising for the MAIN FRANCHISE! Just absurd to abuse intellectual property law like this when all it really does is hurt the brand amongst its core fanbase
@@anotherblowncartridge those full of greed will never be able to make or appreciate true art. But the law will always help them limit it. Or even destroy it. Inventing a stick shouldnt give you the rights to every tool with a handle. You cant be copying something, if you improved upon it. Ironically if pokemon ever improved upon its formula it would be stealing ideas came up with by rom hackers years ago.
@@Isaiah-jm5fn Well, it depends on the law, but for the most part, I agree. When its all about profit and nothing else, true art and innovation are lost in margins.
There are so many good rom hacks around these days, i genuinely can't decide whether to start with Unbound, Gaia, Glazed or Prism.
I recommend starting with the earlier ROM hacks and moving forward in terms of time of release. Starting with Gaia is a good point, I feel.
This game looks amazing, a huge step up from the classics indeed!
It's a massive accomplishment for GBA rok hacking, and just a fantastic Pokemon game in its own right.

It's fantastic! Definitely a contender for best Pokemon game ever made. I completely agree, it's now easily one of my favourites, too.

I did start playing this one a while ago, but the first gym being themed around weed *really* took me out of it, cause it just made it hard to take the game seriously. Figured if it was willing to do something stupidly edgy like that once, it was gonna do it again. But since you've said it seemingly ended up removing some of that stuff (I.E.: Houndoom murder), I gotta ask, was that also changed?
If not, that's unfortunate, but I hope my original assumption was wrong and that that's just a one-time occurrence, cause I genuinely am interested in this game since people love it so much. I *want* to like this game.
The first gym is grass type themed, but it is not about weed anymore. It's become much more child-friendly and accessible for everyone. It's very easy to take seriously nowadays.

but another very good rom hack is Pokemon Clover.
Clover is awesome, but I tend to stay away from rom hacks that have Fakemons. Just my preference, though.
And agreed, it's the #1.

2:58 So are you saying the scene from this clip is from an older version of the hack? Because I won't lie, just straight-up murdering someone is messed up in Pokémon. Hacks that get this edgy with stuff like that and swearing just turn me off.
Yeah that's an older version. Should have specified that better.

@@RoseSupreme Realistically the whole scene really changed. Just the nature of the Shadows and how the (at the time) leader reacts to things.
This is to say it's replaced with a different scene that isn't as silly and edgy
@@anotherblowncartridge All I can recall was a moment where the Houndoom was sent to attack someone, but got teleported away via one of Hoopa's rings.
@@RoseSupreme Yeah that could be it! I'm not remembering the exact moment well as to where it was in the main story, but that's most likely it.
I've never played a pokemon game, should I start with Clover or this?
That's a good question. I'd actually recommend doing a playthrough of either FireRed or Emerald first. But if your only choices are Unbound and Clover, I'd suggest Unbound.
I have yet to play Clover, and I don't tend to play Pokemon games with Fakemon (fan-created, non-canon Pokemon) so I can't tell you if you should or shouldn't play it. But Unbound is great regardless of whether or not you've played a Pokemon game, before. Just might have a tough endgame challenge for someone going in with no prior franchise experience.
