I think it's great that you are collaborating with content creators to more easily show how the skill might look and feel. Everything about this process has been great so far!

ngl, i was really bummed about sailing instead of shamenism. But y'all really doing a great job selling this to me personally. I want to eventually see some exploration of underwater. I loved what you guys did on fossil island and it's really one of the most beautiful places in game. Idk if submarines are being thought about since we can just swim underwater. But would be really cool to have some diving spots or something like that too! Maybe even underwater dungeons?
@Azlorn Magus osrs is only osrs because of the graphics. When you voted for osrs servers to be added, you also voted for it to be updated with player polled updates.
l love how half the people watching this think this is the final product. This is literally a demo of NAVIGATION. Not skilling, XP rates, core gameplay loop, etc. Nothing is set in stone yet. Takes a bit more than a few weeks to make a new skill.

Wow! At first, I was like “sure, ok, sailing..” and now that the refinement stage has started I am IMPRESSED. The “this could be a minigame” argument just got destroyed by this video. Amazing job to the OSRS team, and I can’t wait for part 2. Let’s sail the seas!!! 🎉
@@deathninja16 there’s currently no minigame in OSRS that nearly doubles the navigable map, expands existing areas, and has the future potential updates that sailing does, ie. slayer content, quests, minigames, PvP content, raids 4, and more. This is only the first refinement stage, and it already shows that sailing is massively bigger than a simple, or even complex minigame
@@myroache3518I agree. I definitely feel like sailing SHOULD be apart of the game as means for transportation, exploration, new bosses and caves and raids and quests, expansions of the map etc etc. the list goes on. But as something to actually train as a skill, I disagree.
I am so happy with this skill so far! I really does look like it would fit in 2007 Runescape! Young me would have loved it, and adult me will surely love it! Keep it coming OSRS team!
I was a little sceptical at first, but I know this team can pull it off. After seeing a little more about it, I'm much more excited. I would like to see more around the concept of pvp/pvm possibilities that can accompany sailing. Maybe have random ghost/skeleton/zombie ships patrolling the seas that will attack on site and you can choose to fight or flee. Also, random islands with hidden clues leading to other islands, eventually leading to nice rewards (similar to clue scroll mechanics). The possibilites are endless and I look forward to seeing how the game evolves.
Im glad people are excited about the integration in the open world, but it will be a little silly to see 100s of ships all in the same area crossing over one another.
I was hard-set on Shamanism, feeling fairly opposed to the other two options. However, this seems to be shaping up into something I'd certainly get behind. Good job, OSRS Team, your passion and dedication is apparent, to say the least.
So you were hard-set on Shamanism, but after seeing basic movement mechanics of ships with zero gameplay, interaction or substance, you're sold on sailing? Interesting. Perhaps I could interest you in some updates that would evolve the combat mechanics?
@@MarieJeanne Evolve combat mechanics, you say? There's a perfect update for you, it's called runescape 3, f off with that powercreep bullshit, sailing shits all over it.
ngl, the thing that I always wanted since the release of osrs was to have a bigger draw distance, even more than runelite has already. Fingers crossed that you guys are able to make it 🙏🤞
As a mostly single player, I really hope I can hire an NPC crew for bigger ships and run it similar to Kingdom and or your butler for construction. I just don't want a skill to force itself into group content if that's not the desire of the player.
I am so impressed with how far this has come in such a short period of time. We're truly blessed to have this dev team working on our medieval point and click adventure game.
I love the fact that you have a bank chest on board and do other skilling while sailing. Fingers crossed that's something that's unlocked earlier rather than later in the level progression.
I'm still trying to understand how this will be fun at all. Will it be like dungeoneering where it's basically a standalone mini game that only a few people actually enjoy doing?
I think that reorganizing the layout of landmasses and islands to make sailing more useful would be really important for this to work. I also think that's a massive undertaking.
Jagex, atleast please make it where in PvP worlds everywhere is able to be pvp vs each other and where we can hijack each others boat and climb aboard enemy boats etc
(Suggestion) implementation of a dock slip at poh. should be used to park your ship when not online or not using the ship. Customizations and building can also go on there by utilizing the servant as a bank runner. That would help clear up some clutter of too many ships on the water or at port.

Ok I just had a really good idea. What if sailing had a rogue-like mini game with path choosing similar to slay the spire. So maybe you need to sail from point A to point B and along the way can choose between battles, elite monster fights and maybe looting events.
Also similar to darkest dungeon 2 some routes could hurt your hill and your sails in which case you’d need to go to a specific encounter to repair them
Sailing was my last choice. I was so upset when it won the poll because I felt that Shamanism was BY FAR the most fitting skill. It seemed to fit perfectly with other skills within the game such as herbalism, crafting, etc. My main issue with sailing was the expectation that it would be too minigame-like. Even though dungeoneering in RS3 was massively popular, I was always disappointed in it back in the day because of the instanced gameplay. It wasn't a SKILL, it was a minigame, and I was worried that sailing would turn out the same way. Seeing these clips of gameplay and hearing some of the progress made I must admit that I should have known better than to expect the OSRS team to make such a mistake. This game is in great hands and it consistently amazes me how in touch with the player base that the devs are. I've played runescape since 2004. I actually still use the same account I had all the way back then. Thanks for keeping the game alive and I'm excited to see more updates on sailing!
I'm still trying to wrap my mind around how they plan to make it useful and fun. Historically, sailing was used to transport people and goods because it was the most efficient way to travel. Osrs has teleports and banks. Will the Sailing skill actually have a use beyond "sailing won the poll, so we have to come up with something, even if it requires a giant shoehorn to make it fit..."
I really hope you tie in other skills into sailing such as construction, crafting, fishing, smithing, etc to upgrade the ship and gain XP in those skills too
You mentioned about the boats being stackable out of the wilderness and it will be talked about when in the wilderness if I recall correctly that’s what you said. Although how will this work in PvP worlds? Also please upgrade PvP to make it where you have to travel the whole of PvP for rewards of some sort. That could be random in multi or single areas. This would be dangerous as other players and clan could be waiting for you to be lured in but that’s what made RuneScape fun back in the old days!
You mentioned about the boats being stackable out of the wilderness and it will be talked about when in the wilderness if I recall correctly that’s what you said. But how would this work in PvP worlds? … Thinking about it why don’t you just make sailing a total PvP experience as the seas have no ‘ law’ that would be amazing
Wow RuneScape making a new skill. I might have to actually start playing again… I played before construction was dropped. And when con was dropped I watched zezima everyday on the high scores until he hit 99 😅 same with hunter. Hunter was a lot of fun on release too. Cheers 🎉
One note on ship types: The small solo ship should be able to do almost everything, so that the solo experience can always be there as an option without losing out on any content. Alternatively Make the large ship should be able to be manned by a solo player with AI crewmates to experience the seas that a small ship cannot, have this be peak solo experience. Make collossal ships be everything a large ship is but for groups, without special content that forces people to group up, because while group activities sound fun, it's going to be a tedious issue long-term, unless said group activities are not absolute best possible unique experiences in the skill to where you need to commit X amount of time on it, while a large ship could've given you some more freedom with AI crewmates to do the same thing with lesser rewards but the same overall experience (not XP) of content, if that makes sense.
I can't wait to get 99 sailing so that way I can ride around on a big boat offering a sailing service for people who want to do alchemy on the high seas
Im quite worried about the movement mechanics too. I think its more complicated than they might realise. I would be fine with regular movement mechanics for boats tbh
Probably not i am also concerned that they try to make it too realistic. i played some games with boats that got quite frustrating with the realistic controls.
As someone who isn't really a fan of sailing the most appealing aspect of it to me is ship combat and that it effectively doubles the size of the runescape map
