I have aloe from my great grandmother, over 100 years old and have many shoots/ daughter plants/ clones that I give away to the younger cousins and such. Aloes are great and it’s a good heritage/family heirloom
One thing I’ve learned is that aloes like a spot. When they thrive in their spot I do not move them. Otherwise they’ll get unhappy, until you move them back to the spot the like( window. Light, humidity etc.
If I was a betting man, I would have bet a lot of money that there is no way and aloe could be turned into a bonsai, but you have done it Nigel, to my utter disbelief! Well done again!
31:31 Interesting fact of the day for you: "Humans Can Only Sense Temperature and Pressure. We Can Not Sense Wetness." 👍🙏 Nice forest Nigel look forward to seeing updates on this one 😁
I have aloe as well. Some I got as a child. They don't get large. I think you made the right decisions! That forest planting looks absolutely fantastic in that pot! It will look very alien! Glad you decided to keep them!
This is why I love your channel, Nigel. I was just looking at my tiger aloe today thinking, "cool. It's still alive, my overwintering game is improving, but wtf can I do with this?" Keep up the good work and best wishes from western Washington.
You definetly made the right decision with the spacing in the pot, which looks so beautiful btw. It is going to be difficult to keep it forest style while keeping it away from looking like a clump though, should be fun, I might try something similar soon.
Very interesting video Nigel. I did not know that one can make a Bonsai from an Aloe. Being a South African we have Aloes for the whole world as they grow in abundance over here. I am going to try this for sure. Thank you
Lol, I could hear the rooster crowing in the video's background, and for a moment I thought I could hear it irl. I was thinking, 'Who the heck got chickens around here in the middle of winter?'
Never thought of creating a bonsai like that. I look forward to a few years down the road. Now that I think about it I have one that is quite big but just alive on the top I could try something with.
I found an aloe at my dads under a gutter, i went to repot it and the soil was completely soaked and must have been for a while, it rains a lot here. Funny thing was is it looked like it was thriving, roots were super healthy and plant was very green and healthy. I was surprised
Maybe some of the leaves were growing down because they could not push themselves up; just no place else to go??? The plant is root-beautiful and bountiful. 😊
Yes, the overhead lights are LED shop lights and the big light is a fluorescent tube light that is made for plants. Here is the playlist for indoor lighting... ua-cam.com/play/PLQouTWwmTQoxJeK7RDEX_ME17khHHssdx.html
very sweet and attractive arrangement. Love that pot with them.
很有熱带風情味道,that’s great ,well done!

Here’s a suggestion to add a large rock toward the front and anchor the two smallest Aloe pieces beside it.
Looks great Nigel!
Awesome. Loved to see the pencil cactus starting tk flower... it did quite a long trip 3 to 4 years ago from Brazil. 😉
I love aloe plants and my aloe plant has a lot of pups
It looks amazing Nigel.
Thank you, it's growing really well now, every one of the little pups survived!
Nice work i like that

It looks cool good luck 🤞🤞
I like your bonsai sir
I thought the pot was a bit small at first but now that they are in there, it seems to be the perfect size!
cool looking aloe. looks pretty woody too! nice work
Thanks 👍
Excellent video on making an Aloe into a bonsai. Thinking out of the box for a unique looking forest.
Think that is a great combo with Sarah's pot and the aloë forest.
Sarah’s pot is absolutely beautiful. What a joy to get to see it with trees and not hidden from view. Lucky you.
Really enjoyed this, i have some older aloes and some strange older cholla cactuses think i am going to try this.
Thanks!
Thanks once again DK!!! A big smile on my face!!!

Hey Nigel you should use the aloe gel and some essential oils to twist your young locs.
that “pencil cactus” with the yellow buds looks to be Hatiora salicornioides, aka dancing bones cactus! one of my favorite cacti :)
the secretion of this plants are great for sun burn, just a lil thing to keep in mind for those who live near the cost, or during summer
I wish we had that problem here, I haven't seen the sun for weeks!!!
It's also a nutritious addition to smoothies and even eaten raw.

There's a lot of sedum and crassula varieties (besides jade) that make interesting small bonsai plants.

👍👌
Do the jasmine flowers smell good? My star jasmine has white flowers and smells great.
Would love to see an update on this guy!
Aloes. In four years you’ll be pitching them, just like everyone else in the Western Hemisphere.
Aloes are aloe-vely
About the leaves underground, it could just be because it’s so root bound.
Wat is the update of your desert rose bonsai
I am not fan of such plants but it is very interesting to see such species in bonsai [forest] edition!
Hi Nigel. Thank, very interesting video.
This is aloe somalensis, not tiger aloe.
Thanks, I was looking at Aloe's for a long time, trying to identify which one it is, so many choices and they all look similar!!
Have you ever discussed the lighting used in your basement?

@TheBonsaiZone thanks, I'm trying to move away from fluorescent bulbs to save on electricity and avoid the mercury issues.
The aloe should not have brown tips,I think it needs to be watered more. You can also cut off the brown tips to make it look better.
It is doing really well now!!!
Someone’s a tig welder
what a pot.
I have some aloes here in Brazil, but they have TOO MUCH inverted taper...
I think that will reverse as the plant gets older, I've seen some older ones with nice tapered trunks!
Foist
Great Scott, you’re good at this

‘How many pots do you have Nigel?’
‘Enough to put aloe into a Sarah Rayner pot’
😂😂 Love it Nigel!
Lol, I hope Sarah never hears about this!!
