Actors early in their career in this movie who became well known included Diane Lane, Michael Pare, Amy Madigan. Willem Dafoe, and Rick Moranis. A good cast
Throughout his too-brief adult lifetime, Dan Hartman (R.I.P.) was not known for tossing a lot of songs onto the top-40 charts. But he worked with a lot of artists and was a formidable songwriter for many. Most important to me personally were his years with the ahead-of-their-time rock quartet, The Edgar Winter Group wherein he was bassist and shared lead & harmony vocals. All three front men -- Dan, Edgar and Rick Derringer -- were musicians / songwriters / singers while Chuck Ruff drummed out the rock beat for everything. The best example I can think of is their Shock Treatment album from the mid-1970's.
Dan Hartman's first claim to fame was as bassist and singer for the Edgar Winter Group. Not only did he write and sing on the band's hit single "Free Ride", but he plays the opening guitar riff even though the band's guitarist at the time, Ronnie Montrose, was a darn good guitarist, but only Dan Hartman could play the riff the way he did. Great song!
Excellent catch on the Hall & Oates!!! He actually wrote the song for them but they regrettably had to turn it down because they had just finished cutting their latest album at the time, Big Bang Boom! or whatever it was. So they had to pass on it. He saw his opportunity and sang it himself and the rest is history. The official long version is the best! It's about 7 and a half minutes long. One of the best songs of the 80s! Fond memories.
The soundtrack this song came from is amazing! Listen to "Tonight is What it Means to Be Young," and "Nowhere Fast." written by Jim Steinman and performed by the studio group called Fire Inc. Steinman wrote hits for Meatloaf, Bonnie Tyler, Air Supply and Barry Manilow.
again, paused it before it started...LOVE this song. Performed it as a Lip Sync for my high school variety show my senior year. Performed it like the video on MTV that was playing at the time, which was a clip of the movie, Streets of Fire. Killed it. Got so many compliments afterward...everyone seemed to think I'd be a major star of some sort. lol Sorry! :)
The aids virus .. Caused a cancer tumor in his brain. No pneumonia or k.s . Wish he could have lived much longer... Until life saving treatments could have given him additional year's..
If you were watching the official music video, you saw black guys performing it...he's actually white, lol. AND, it fooled tons of people for years who didn't know who Dan was. Edit: There is a music video with Dan singing, but back in the day they never showed that one.
For years people thought the lead singer was a black dude because of the video, which its too bad UA-cam blocked for this. Of course Dan Hartman was Caucasian, but he was full of soul. Classic track. RIP.
Hi Angela, greetings from Down Under. Enjoy watching your reaction videos. Remember hearing this song on the radio a bit a few years back. Can you react to 'One Summer' by Daryl Braithwaite? It's a great song about being at the beach.
Hi Angela - Listen to England Dan & John Ford Coley "Light of the World", Listen to Climaxx "I Miss You", The Jets " Make It Real ...Also listen to Taylor Dane & and Carley Simon...Best to You!
Good song, but I like the song he wrote for Edgar Winter "Free Ride" and he sang in it as well! I like that song much more! Let me request once more for you to do a reaction to the greatest song of all time! Hotel California by The Eagles! Bye!
I often think this is what caused Milli Vanilli. When the video first came out every one thought it was a black group. Cause it was used in a movie as black guys singing it. The movie was even better than tbe song. Street of fire.
Interesting that you feel a hall and oats vibe in this song. Hall and oats actually performed their version of this song years after in 2005 ua-cam.com/video/wh1Upq7SBN8/v-deo.html
Aaah...the golden years of 80s music
I love this song I'm a rocker but this grooves with the soul a rocker loves😎🔥🤘
Great song from the 1984 movie "Streets of Fire". Dan Hartman RIP- he died from AIDs. Good pickup about he Hall and Oates feel!
Actors early in their career in this movie who became well known included Diane Lane, Michael Pare, Amy Madigan. Willem Dafoe, and Rick Moranis. A good cast
@@bbwng54 hall and Oates what ?
This was actually written for Hall & Oates but they didn't get around to it so he recorded it himself for the "Streets Of Fire" soundtrack.
His vocals sound like Daryl's
Link to the Hall & Oates version, live: ua-cam.com/video/wh1Upq7SBN8/v-deo.html
Streets of Fire is a phenomenal movie
@@stevebrien1041 I enjoyed it a lot- somewhat underrated film. Had Michael Pare, Diane Lane, Amy Madigan, Willem Dafoe during their early years.

This song was a big hit back in 1984 sadly, Dan Hartman passed away at 43 years old from the Aids virus 10 years after this song was released.
The aids virus .. Caused a cancer tumor in his brain. No pneumonia or k.s . Wish he could have lived much longer... Until life saving treatments could have given him additional year's..
Dan Hartman had another great hit in 1984 with Second Nature.

Great song. I also enjoyed the movie.
Good catch on Hall and Oates...
Great artist! Very under rated.
He was also a successful Record Producer for many artists. From #Jamesbrown and #TinaTurner ..etc
If you were watching the official music video, you saw black guys performing it...he's actually white, lol. AND, it fooled tons of people for years who didn't know who Dan was. Edit: There is a music video with Dan singing, but back in the day they never showed that one.
