- The body of a Southern California man who went missing 22 years ago was found and will be reunited with his family.
Bill Stampfl, 58, was a civil engineer from Chino who was a loving father and husband. When he wasn’t taking care of his family, Bill loved to seek adventure in the outdoors.
In June 2002, Bill and two friends set off to summit Mount Huascarán in Peru, the country’s tallest mountain peak at 22,205 feet. However, that would be the last time his family saw him.
KTLA's Shelby Nelson reports on July 10, 2024.

KTLA 5 News - Keeping Southern Californians informed since 1947.
My brother was killed in a construction accident in Kenai Alaska in 1977, and we never got the complete details....accident report, etc, on the grounds that mom and dad didn't want us to know or discuss it because it was "too painful for your mother and I". They have been deceased for awhile now, so in the past year, seeing all these cold case files has inspired me to dig around to try to get the official word that we were never allowed to discuss; A FOIA request finally has located the missing accident report, and there is other relevant info we are seeking, to find out who were the people involved and what shortcuts were taken on safety issues and material purchases.
So sorry for the loss of your brother 🙏
@@lioness7582 Thank you for your condolences ! We continue to seek some answers.

I know that this may sound strange, but there are some great true crime UA-camrs out there who have out access all kinds of records. The records are public, but are so difficult to locate and delve into if you are not used to doing it. I think you should send your information to one of them.
Like I say, there are many. But may I suggest Kendall Rae. She is Remarkably good, infinitely tactful and sympathetic, and always donates part of the proceeds (often all) to a charity of some sort that would be related to the type of plight of the victim and their families.
I hope you see this, and if you get in touch with her, feel free to include a copy of this comment that I am making to you.
I hope this helps. God bless you and your family.
Much love,
Kim

The loss may have moved to the back of your mind with time, but it never goes away, my condolences to you. Good luck to you. 🙏🌹
I’m glad they found him. God bless his family!
how cool that he was literally frozen in time - see the pics of his camera, flip phone, etc. heartbreaking story, but at least a sense of some peace at the end
What a Blessing To have found him all these years later .
I wasn't there to make the summit, I was there to find Bill.
Proof you're not just quoting?
That was a powerful statement. He knew he was led to that body for a reason and the whole purpose mod that trip was Bill.
Very poignant words. That and the fact that as fellow Americans they felt a responsibility to get Bill home to his family.❤️🙏🏻
A very wise way to look at the disappointment of not reaching the summit.
You were?
I'm happy the family has closure. Also if the family reads the comments I apologize ppl have no sympathy and have inappropriate comments to say. Too much time on their hands maybe 🤷♂️ with a smidge of evil in their hearts.

Several years ago, the news in Omaha did a story on registered s*x offenders and the state didn’t have the resources to keep track of them all. They ended it by saying officials were concerned some offenders may be slipping through the cracks. I can’t believe no one thought that through.
I had a sinking feeling as I watched a Titanic documentary.

Must be very emotional for the family. Reliving everything. Going through the stages of grief again.
Is that what happens? They have to go "through the stages of grief again."?
They aren't going through the stages of grief again. 22 years of being a missing person. 22!
Denial is gonna be interesting this time around.
A you tuber told the story of 3 hikers who went missing, one was missing for nearly 50 years! One fell into a well. The others, a man and a woman died from rockslides. They were almost completely covered by rocks making it impossible for FLIR and S & R to find their bodies. Hikers not looking for them chanced upon the sites and noticed remains sticking out from under the rocks. Odd thing is when deputies went to tell the elderly widow they had found her husband's body she said something like her husband appeared before her and told her he was coming home.
Anything you do in life is a risk. You can't predict an avalanche. It's just unfortunate.
@@rl1314 You CERTAINLY CAN predict where there will NO avalanche!!!
Actually sometimes you can predict and prevent an avalanche but anytime we go into the high country we take our lives in our own hands. The mountain always wins in the end.

right. how do they know they were buried by an avalanche if no one was around to see the incident?

How sad this brings tears to me I could imagine what the family going through but thank God they can get. Closure ad and give him a proper burial
22 years ago you had to go elsewhere to seek adventure, thrills and maybe peril. In todays age you only need to walk to seven 11 to get that. RIP man from the past.

Great news. I travelled up the mountain road to Laguna Parón Peru on my motorbike, right where they would have started their climb, there’s a memorial plaque there that states their names and where they were from and the details of their disappearance, to be there and look up at those mountains I remember thinking to myself how amazing those climbers were to arrive at this place and attempt such a feat, it’s very remote, breathtaking and awe inspiring. One of the most beautiful places in Peru.
Damn im so close to chino CA. Condolences 🙏

Because he Loved us: John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Because of his Grace: Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Because of Hope: Romans 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
I'm confused at why she lost faith in humanity over him climbing a mountain and being killed in an avalanche and buried? what did humanity have to do with forces of nature? even them finding him. he was buried in an avalanche. they are very lucky they found him even now. I understand if she means in general but still a confusing statement when the situation has nothing to do with humanity or whatnot. more nature than humanity by far.. sorry to sound mean. but I'm having hard time with that...
Because the hikers that found him made it a point to notify the authorities and family that they found him. That way the family would know what became of him and bring him home. They didn't have to say anything or do anything...she says she has a restored hope in humanity.
