  • After a year of training I’m finally cleared for the truck tow. I felt my confidence building up every flight in this class. I know I’m ready for the high flight but I also know I have so much to learn too.
    I will be looking for the right conditions for my first truck tow in the coming weeks.
    Thank you for stopping by my channel😊

    There is nothing like nailing a spot! I was almost as happy as you were! Isn't it crazy how fun this is, and how so few people are interested? I'll never understand why it isn't more.popular.

      Thank you so much for your enthusiasm🤩 I know, I struggle with people’s reaction about this sport.. but we can’t make people love something. I can only encourage them to try if they are interested. I’m no one special didn’t know anything about this sport at first. More I learned more I became intrigued by it. It sounds corney but I do feel that I was meant to do this☺️

    We tried scooter and fixed winch towing 30+ years ago ,switched to platform towing . Much much better towing. Maintaining constant tow pressure and constant airspeed . You may need a longer tow area clear of obstructions . Also much better at towing tandem gliders .

    • @nanoraflyz
      @nanoraflyz  Рік тому

      Ya I’ve seen platform tow video. Ya we got crop fields in all corner and the park is the two runways… if it needs an open field it won’t work at Blue Sky. Steve does wonderful job at scooter towing and truck towing though. I mean that’s what he is expert at. He’s very strict but so so lucky to be learning from him.

    The first landing looked great! The second one, not so much. You started flaring too early, but pulled in enough for a second flare, and even then were till early. Be careful with thoe, and try to flare not too early, not too late, but just as the glider approaches a stall. Then grab high on the down-tubes, push forward and up, try to kick the kel behind you with your feet, and that should rock the glider up and land you perfectly.
    Fly safely and have fun!

    It has been a pleasure watching your progression into a pilot.Brings back memories of my learning. I have watched all your vids several times.Loved them all. The last 3 lessons it really started to click for you and you could really see it.Now that you can tow higher the real learning and fun begins thanks to that added flight time. Keep up the good work and keep the vids coming.

    The tow gets you up there..use what you gained and get more height. The aim is to stay aloft as long as possible. So the longer the flight the better..

    I took up hang gliding in my 20's back in the '80's. My city shut the hill down because of liability issues, and I gave it up. I am now 62 and will be heading south to the Wallaby Ranch in Orlando this spring to get reacquainted with the sport. Your relaxed style is an inspiration, and I hope I get as confident.

      You are on your way back to flying again Im so excited for you!!! Your pure desire and motivation are there then confidence should follow with your successful progress back to flying. Just as everyone say to each other, regardless of their level of flight skills, don’t push, be safe and have fun is all I can say. It’ll be a good time sir😉

    Mis felicitaciones. Seguro que serás una "crack" del vuelo. Disfruta del vuelo; no hay nada igual!. Recuerda que los accidentes vienen cuando te confias, por eso ni los novatos, ni los veteranos, suelen tener accidentes. Y permíteme un consejo de un viejo piloto deportivo: When in doubt whether or not you can fly,.. better to be down, wanting to be up, than to be up, wanting to be down. 😊

      Muchas gracias. Estoy usando el traductor de Google para responder. Sí, he aprendido de esa manera difícil. He tenido vuelos donde mi cabeza me decía que volara pero físicamente no estaba en buenas condiciones. Esos vuelos terminaron siendo desordenados... realmente podrían haber sido peores al pensar en ello. Así que ahora hago una revisión mental y física minuciosa previa al vuelo. Necesito seguir con eso.

    nanoRa - fantastic video and congratulations! - As a fellow aviator (aged!!), watching this was a revelation. What a great way to teach hang gliding. I started out many moons ago with parachuting/skydiving, no tandem free falls from 12,000ft then....the long slow 'old school' method, whereby many fall out of the system.Then onto hang gliding in the mid eighties - loved it, but lugging the glider up shallow hills for days on end deters many starters. After a few years I started training for my instructor ticket, which took a couple of years - but was a great experience with fantastic, sensible and safe mentors - I taught professionally between civil/military schools. The difference is another topic itself...........
    I was one of the first UK pilots to get a formal 'winch tow' rating, after which I recognised the potential - it's great to see the process evolve. This is a great system.
    For me, a power licence wasn't anywhere near as fulfilling or exciting as 'pure flight', which is why for the last 10 years I've been flying sailplanes - and absolutey love it!

    • @nanoraflyz
      @nanoraflyz  Рік тому

      Thank you very much sir🙏 I’m very lucky to learn at Blue Sky. Steve drives students and glider around with his golf cart so there is no need to walk back the glider to the launch point. With truck tow there is no need of breaking down setting up the glider. We just keep flying. Ya it probably spoiled me. I need more hill training for future mountain flights. I’ll learn the hard way when I do that😅 thank you for your comment sir. It means a lot to hear from a veteran like you.

      Wow thank you sir🙏 nah I got a looooong way to become a skilled pilot. I’ve only flown in nice and calm conditions, haven’t experienced real turbulences or thermal. I just need more consistent flying to build my skills but it is the nature of this sport, I don’t have a flexible work schedule to travel around like some pilots can. Just waiting for my next opportunity at my home base Blue Sky😊 can’t wait for it🐥

Practice flight with height just 500ft or below I don’t think I’d even think to attempt because I’m so focusing on landing approach.. now that I get towed up higher I really should take care of loose bridal.
