Today, we're taking a quick look at the first official new Honda electric scooter that was just released as a successor to the original Honda Motocompo mini bike. Tired of being stuck in traffic? Whip out your folding E bike from Honda and watch the traffic dissapear, or at least that's what they're hoping for with the release of this new electric motorcycle / motor scooter. Honda should market these to boaters. They'll be great to throw on the boat since they're so small, light, "clean" (no gas to store, spill or smell), and can be "refueled" with solar power from the boats solar/electric system. Carry an international power adapter set, and you can charge them if needed while sight-seeing on land at most marinas in developed nations.

Flop, because they are still thinking of these things as car accesories, not vehicles in their own right. These would be perfect for the European urban youth. A vehicle that can bypass traffic and parking because it is slow, light and clean enough to pass as a bicycle is more useful to us than a car. We don't have garages or large wallets, so something that fits in an elevator and doesn't take up much place in an apartment is perfect. Trust me, I have a full sized scooter in my one room apartment and it sucks. I'd much rather downgrade to this thing if it was available for sale in my country.
just bought mine, the weight capacity to carry weight and size ratio sold me. worth it in my city built for people not cars ends up being more useful than a car.
They should give these out for free with car sales. Flooding the market with them would be a great way to normalize them, and possibly start a new culture here in the US.

They could, but they need to make money for it too, I'm thinking this motocompacto could become the optional with car sales, but with 2-30% off discount compared to buy it alone.

That's *almost* an impulse buy. And yeah, I know you can get a whole lot of bicycle for $1k these days. But a little runabout that I can toss in my trunk, or take to my desk at work, and costs about 10 cents to fully recharge? That's *really* tempting!
Also! It's cute. It's quirky. It's classic Honda WEIRD. And that's what I appreciates about them.
Yeah and it doesn't have any turn signals and I don't think you would be safe driving with such a low profile next to SUV and trucks.
you can get a foldable ebike thats at least twice as powerful as this little toy for the same price and nearly the same weight
@@terrycruise-zd5twagreed, there is Lectric XP 3.0 for $999 which is a lot better for the same price, more power, higher top speed, more range, better suspension, and you get free accessories like bike lock, phone mount, elite headlight, and suspension seat post, and Lectric as a brand is just as reliable as Honda. For the spec and power, they should just price it at $495, at $995, it is double the price of what it’s worth.
The transparent view at 3:03 looks way better than the white rectangle. We need clear plastic versions!
I already have the outside measurements. I'm making a clip on shell for min when I can find a dealer that actually has one in stock.. I'm not pre-ordering anything😢 I'm making my design so I can pop it off and change it put to my moods of where I'm riding at wrap is nice but a abs cover is more flexible and never permanent... added 3d depth to my style and personality 😊

As much as i would like it to be a home run, i think itll be a flop. 15 mph isn't much, neither is the run time. But im glad honda is offering SOMETHING electric on two wheels
No 12 mile range sucks the heck out of suck!!!
Range anxiety is real, you will be consistently charging this thing and be worried about carrying this thing to go somewhere.
As an "older" person, I totally see myself buying one of these to putts around town in when I'm not in the mood to ride my bike. Great video by the way 😎

For me a small electric bike I would just get the one at Costco for 400 bucks, I see them around and they seem to do the job. I no longer commute.
But I think you should have a race between one of these E-Bikes and that lady from Austin riding the food robot. Now that would be a hoot. Or maybe cut that in one of your videos it would be too funny.

Oh yeah, some of the cheaper options have definitely stepped up their game when it comes to reliability here lately and when you're not using them day in and day out - saving that $$ can be the best route to go, at the end of the day.

It will do well if they market it properly. Lots people pay $1k or higher for crappy chinese ebikes that go 18mph and don't fit in a trunk. If the Motocompacto has Honda support, people wouldn't look twice at the Amazon ebike market.

If Honda plays their cards right, this is going to be HUGE! My commute recently changed so I'm looking to upgrade my monkey, but the MOTOcompacto could definitely fill the miniMOTO sized void that selling the monkey would leave... as long as you don't have to buy a car or some other peculiar clause to be able to purchase one.
its just such a Honda thing. I love it and purchased online at a Honda dealer without the Acura Markup.
Heck yeah, glad you were able to snatch one up without the markup! Have you already seen Acura dealers trying to mark them up? I checked my local Honda dealer this morning and they're trying to get over MSRP on these things lol!
But... I'd be lying if I said I wasn't surprised.
I plan on buying at least one of these to bring to the race track during the summer. I really hope some aftermarket companies somehow figure out a way to unlock the computer to make it go just a little bit faster. I would love to see this thing go like 20mph.

If this thing can do 20mph, and has 30 miles of range, then it is a lot better for the price.
buy a 12 volt battery charger and place it inside the motocompacto and you'll probably get double the miles on this thing

USA will get this which hardly anyone will actually buy, but we can't have a very capable ADV 350 that I know 20 people personally that would buy on on release right now.
Honestly, why would they only sell this in the US. Also you have to go to a dealer to pick it up? Why not ship to the customers door? I was really exited but just feel let down by how this has been poorly set up.

I think it will have a market in downtown Manhattan but any where else not so much definitely not in rural areas like where I live when ne nearest store is 4 miles down the highway wich has a 60mph speed limit
Oh yeah, it's definitely going to depend on your surrounding area for sure. It's going to be interesting to see how many of these are used in the city and how many people buy them to use as a pit bike etc. Plus I think we'll see a lot of people snatch them up as a fun toy to play around with from time to time and if you can get enough buddies with them, they might make for some fun racing lol!

Was hoping for at least a 25mph scooter with at least 30mi range, that would make it a fun yet affordable scooter that is still legal under e-bike specs.
Maybe they can reduce the cost of the existing one to about $750 and make the more potent model at about $1250, I might buy the more potent model.
escooter/e-vehicle market is already flooded, the only appeal of this toy is the honda logo and appaerance, so if you only care about looks then feel free to waste your money on poor performance

One of these days, before their values go up even more, I'd love to build an old wagon. It's one of the few Honda platforms I haven't played with yet and it's been calling my name. It's been wild watching these old Hondas that used to sell for peanuts back in the day, continue to shoot up in value. I'd give anything if I would've stashed a crap ton of them away in a warehouse somewhere lol!

how? foldable ebikes already exist, bikes that weigh nearly the same as this toy, with at least double the pefromance in every single aspect, not to mention bikes mean you can actually carry shit on it with racks and panniers, plus you can let other people ride on the back, plus they have suspension with actual tires that will allow you to ride on non-paved surfaces. good luck getting this thing to move an inch on dirt

It's called a bike, but it doesn't look like a bike since it doesn't have pedals. Since it's not a "bike", it would be banned from my local multiuse paved trails forcing me to ride it in the bike lane. With the limited speed and range, and having to ride it in the bike lane, I'd opt for a 50cc scooter. It does look funky cool, but doesn't fit my uses/needs.

It looks cool and has some Apple-style design so people will buy it, but there are better options out there considering speed, range, and a suspension system in the same price range.

@@HondaProKevin I read that it's also FRONT wheel drive. Which is incredibly odd for a 2-wheeled vehicle. You're gonna have trouble getting enough weight on the front end to keep it from slipping if you overvolt the motor :D

ofc honda will claim anything in order to sell their product, but theres no such thing as a super comfy seat when your scooter doesnt have any form of suspension whatsoever and you have tiny little solid wheels@@123edwardzpad

It's not for me. I'd take any of their 125cc mini motos over this any day.
All they have to do is do an almost 1:1 visuals of the Motocompo like what they did with the E-Dax. But these mf aint it.

After dealers tack on freight, shipping, setup, and market adjustment fees the price will be near $3000 probably.

Are these even legal anywhere yet? In eu a 'powered' vehicle is not legal. Elec scooters are everywhere even though they're not legal. But with Honda on board, im sure the laws will change. Good its slow. The 40kph scooters a really dangerous, kids and adults zipping on paths and across roads with no caution have caused many near misses etc.
Quebec, Canada recently made these kind of escoots legal on public roads as long as max speed is less than 16mph (25kph).
@@noseboop4354 Far less problem with them if they are speed restricted, (16mph still fast enough, maybe too fast) but the ones that can do 40+kph are so dangerous for pedestrians, and car drivers, to remain uninsured vehicles. Can't count the number of near misses/ stories of near misses and injuries etc. Love the concept and with proper infrastructure/ regulations they make so much sense.

I'm in Rural Florida, not the Urban spots like Miami. I have zero usage for this scooter so sucks. It needs like 5 more MPH, double-triple the range to be worthwhile for me.

bit of a disappointment really. it looks so boring and iPhoney. The original had character.
The point is that you can modify them, unlike Apple, Honda loves the aftermarket and the aftermarket REALLY loves Honda. If you give it a few months people will 100% be buying these and doing crazy builds with more power and a fast top speed etc etc, the point in Honda’s simplistic design is to make the Motocompacto a cheap but well built blank canvas that can be used by everyone from older people around town or for younger students at college, not to mention the massive enthusiast communities behind Honda cars and bikes.
@@griffins750 Modding escooters is always cool don't get wrong. this one's just not for, dawg. It will be cool to see what people do with it though. I wish Honda would bring that Dax E state side for the same reason.
These are hot garbage, a little slower? try less than half as fast; a bone stock Motocompo tops out at 25-30 mph, this TrashCompacto tops out at 12 mph. Sad. They are cashing in on ignorant people that don't know what they're buying. Just get a class 3 ebike that will go as fast as a motocompo and save yourself a few bucks.

flop, massive flop, I predict at least 6-7 people will buy one but everyone else isn't going to give it the time of day and for good reason: range is 12 miles (assuming you are on a perfectly flat and level surface for those 12 miles, which realistically is not going to happen)- looks nothing like the original motocompo (which is what gave it its charm) and looks like a fuckin suitcase, totally disappointing. And the fact that there is so much empty space on this thing that isn't used just doesn't seem right. They could have done way better for cheaper and why they decided not to is anyones guess.
