I think Jackie scared the fluff outta Shadow again. Shadow seems to be off in his own little world when she lands on the nest. Not sure if anyone is interested, but on Netflix, there’s a 3 part documentary about an area of Vancouver Island in Southern British Columbia Canada, which is where I live. Part of the documentary has an eagle pair and the male was young one. Probably 4 yrs old? The video caught him in a once in a lifetime comedy trying to catch fish. The name of the documentary is: Island of The Seawolves. If any of you get to watch it, I hope you enjoy it. 😊❤️🇨🇦

@@juliesafin9090 thanks Julie. You know, I never knew about sea wolves here on the island. So much I don’t know about my own island! I live in a popular city on southern tip and don’t drive, so never get around the island at all. So glad you enjoyed seeing that video. I’ve watched it a few times now. Also, if you google Vancouver Island and things to see and do, you’ll enjoy viewing everything. Here on the island and in the mainland there’s rainforests. Need to be very experienced in hiking through them, but they’re famous tourist attractions. Hope some people get to the island and tour it someday. We have whale watching tours in Victoria and way up island there’s a bigger whale watching company up there. I think I’ve heard up island one is better. If anyone does the one from Victoria, there’s 2 types, one is in a raft and is very hard on the body! Back injuries have happened. The better ones are in the cabin cruisers. Take care

They are hatching the eggs correctly, I believe that the egg that didn't hatch was just not fertilized. It happens all the time.

This turned into a narrative: it’s amazing to see them go from honeymooners to battle crying warriors and back to honeymooners in less than a minute… but then Jackie waits…..and waits….. takes a step forward, looks down, and you think a little DV is about to happen. But our boi is SMART….quickly gets up and breaks the 4th wall, telling us “happy wife, happy life”

She’s slowly leaving eggs unattended for longer and longer periods. I think that says it all. I could just cry. Heart broken 😢
She's not though. FOBBV has all their comings and goings recapped by the minute on their website.
I think the eggs are unfertilized like last year. And you're right, they will start leaving the eggs unattended for longer and longer periods of time over the next couple of weeks like last year. Sad to have them sit on the eggs for so long and no chicks after all that time.

If healthy eggs are left unattended for a long time, and get cold, do they become unviable? How long can eggs be left unattended before the chick inside dies?
Leaving eggs unattended for a few minutes should not do any harm to the eggs.

The way these two birds communicate with each other is funny! I love the sounds they make. From 1:55, why does it seem like Shadow is upset with/scolding Jackie? From the moment she lands on the nest, he starts making all these noises. Whereas Jackie replies with gentle sounds. LOL.

Is that unusual for her to leave them for 9 minutes when Shadow hasn’t arrived yet? Or is that a sign they are starting to give up?
@notavailable9118 It happened yesterday for the first time but there was nothing like that today. Birds sometimes leave eggs for a few minutes.

do male eagles have the brood spot on their chests like the females?
Both male and female eagles develop a brood patch. In case of female eagles it is larger and more developed but they both share incubation duties, so both of them have it.

What happens to the un viable eggs?
Ravens eat them. I've read it's "good" that ravens do that because the eagles will sometimes just keep sitting on them way past the viable date. So while it's incredibly sad maybe we can look at the ravens as helpers that force the eagles to move on. Nature is so beautiful and also so sad...

Standard incubation is 35 days. Pip watch began on Feb 29th for the first egg. Hatching (not pipping) for BB is normally 38/39days. Today will be day 46 for the 1st egg.

Would the Jackie and Shadow be able to tell if there was not a heart beat or if the baby wasn’t developing? I’m new at this, I love watching and I try to watch as much as I can. I just don’t know very much about it. Just throughly enjoy watching the love these two have for each other and the love they have for their babies. I pray they all hatch healthy.

@sherrigarrett2073 Birds are able to tell if they should sit on eggs or not. If they decide that it is for nothing, they leave eggs. However, in this case one egg is past its hatching date, the second one is now too and they still keep incubating them, so it is hard to say why. The third one is still possible to be viable. We will see.
