@@cycledrag My intro to the bike world came to be at Woodburn Dragstrip as my dad went to see an old coworker from his time in Oregon. We arrived at the strip to see his old Wiley friend with a leg cast from an incident a few days before, with his idea it was only cracked not broken so wire my leg to the right side peg my left can still shift. Well the track wasn't having it and his twin engine shovel was a shoe in for winning as long as it broke the beam. I was 16 and the same size as him and pretty enthusiastic so his leathers were tried on and helmet located and the kid was straddling a twin engine nitro shovel firing it Wed midday, his local truckers physical physician signed off and I learned to shift and launch that Thur on an old Aeromachi in the gravel driveway by Friday around noon he gave me the green light to go out to the 330ft and shutoff, bad luck amongst the 4 others placed me in Q2 and against the guy who might have won if he went 3 rounds. So Sunday after a few more 330ft passes I was allowed to line up and told just leave on solid green and shutoff when the bike was getting uncomfortable to handle, well I made it 600ft and won the round and second round I had a bye with another 330ft and with third round I red lit trying to beat the light. I didn't ride again until just last year when I bought my dream 2001 Gilroy Scout and it's going to be back together in July just in time for my 41st birthday with a 113 kit, custom turbo kit, a Holley sniper EFI throttle body on custom pop can cast manifold. So my goal is the James Thurber Shootout 2023 to be back in contention to beat the light on two wheels and maybe be top dawg on Sunday. So I'll be looking for that sticker at the track.

Hey,
I started doing run what you brung, on my gsxr 1100 M (30 years ago) At santpod & Shakespeare County raceway.
Also Straigliners events run by streetfighters magazine & Trevor Duckworth.
Got the Bug! So orderd a Mr Turbo kit (From Mr Turbo) And a Nitrous kit & Air shifter kit from
MRE Tamper florida,
I went to Gainsville to watch Chris Hannon (cannon) Run his funny bike, This was when I first met the one and only Larry Mcbride, Buy this time I desperately wanted to get a funny bike and move up with the big boys!
Eventually the chance came to buy a Funny Bike (kawasaki 1428 turbo Nitrous, running on C16 & and methanol via the nitrous. And my life was complete, Unfortunately don't race anymore however I am still heavily into bikes and enjoy my KTM rc8 on the roads!
Once a biker always a biker you never loose the Bug!
Love your channel 👌🏆🏁🇬🇧
The old man is truly amazing 👏. The fact that he still has this much passion after 40 yrs. It would be SO COOL to see a full field of top fuel bikes run as a regular class. Sadly as we all know that will never happen.

Jack.. not sure what was wrong with Chuck Stuart but he had a lil snappy attitude at first when u interviewed him.. and the guy behind him with the cup in his hand( walking off shaking his head.. what pricks..I would not have put that on here.. what disrespect... I BET THEY HAVE NO CLUE THAT YOU ARE THE REASON THE TF BIKES WERE BACK IN NHRA . . WE LOVE WHAT YOU DO FOR OUR SPORT.. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART..
NO DOUBT ELMER ,JOHN SANDS AND JIM MCCLURE WERE WATCHING THESE GUYS .. GOOD SPEED TO THESE LEGENDS..
He always comes off that way. Like he wants to be the one on the bike and is jealous. Weird.
Congratulations 👏 Larry! This was an amazing run. And in front of the NHRA crowd was a cherry 🍒 on top!
Thanks jack for bringing it to us first and for all you do brother.

I just LOVE hearing the transition from the gasoline start to nitro run! Awesome stuff.
Wish you could do a cost comparison between Top Fuel Bike and Pro Stock NHRA competition bikes from build to per round cost. Maybe it would get butts in the saddles and the seats. Hope to see representation at Sonoma Nationals '22.

Beautiful! It's about time the Living Legend Spider-Man gets his proper due, admiration and respect he deserves!👏 The only thing that could've made that run any better is he would've did a burnout to mid track and did 3 or 4 vintage Elmer Trett style dry hops!

@@cycledrag The little Honda was metallic dark red and silver. Summer vacation would give me time to ride it along northern Michigan power line trails. Being 12 years old at the time with gas prices 0.28 - 0.35 cents a gallon, I put some serious fuel through that little machine with money I earned from selling Scott’s fertilizer for the Boy Scouts and cutting grass. Did not start my first Harley build until 1978 when Allen Miller a Jake’s HD mechanic sold me a 1977 super glide frame and enough scratch and dent parts to creat Louise a 1957 74” FL panhead rigid wishbone frame which Arlen Ness master fabricator helped me derake so I could run stock FLH front end in place of the 15 over springer.

One crazy fact from me: Years ago, I actually meet Larry Mcbride in real life and what's crazier is that his nephew lived in the same apartment as me and my father.
There’s so much that goes into a machine like this, putting it at the pinnacle of motorcycle performance… but something that stands out to me (and maybe not so obvious to others) is, the testament to the strength of a Sprocket Chain… 👍🏻
Hey Jack, it would be cool for the European viewers (like me) if you would mention top speeds in kilometres an hour from time to time and distances in metres. Thanks for the awesome job you are doing to promote the sport btw.
268 mph is about 431.3 kph. 1320 ft.(1/4 mile) is 402.3 meters.
Either way you measure it, still hauling butt.
