Yeah but I find that when I lock myself in my bedroom and avoid them at least I get a break from the degrading comments, stares, and abuse. The more I avoid being in their presence the less I have to endure their abuse. I know it's not a way to live but it's how I'm surviving for now

I agree. I wouldn’t say that avoiding them is the same thing as walking on eggshells. Avoiding them is a real solution.

Going all the way back to childhood and understanding how you were treated adds to the healing. Very valuable to shore up all the vulnerable spots in your path onward.

Not trying to control the abuse. Trying to avoid it. It doesn't feel like exactly the same thing.

Avoiding is not the same thing. Walking on eggshells is definitely an attempt to be quiet enough or perfect enough to stop the abuse while staying in the presence of the abuser. And the difference it makes is purely an illusion. Avoiding the abuse means avoiding the abuser as much as possible, which is more helpful.

I also learned to be "boring" - nothing to trigger their predator instinct and you are 100% right- it does NOT work.
