    Lionel here in central California. Nice explanation on the wet/dry oil system.
    I always prefill my oil filter, even on my Harley. Except when the oil comes up to the top I allow the level to go down. Do Not add any more like you would with your car. Because, you'll be mounting the filter side ways. Been using Amsoil for years. Very happy with it. I have over 207,000 miles on my 2003 Harley Davidson Roadking and the bottom end hasn't been touched.
    First time for Amsoil in my C6. I'm sure you'll keep using it. Top of the heap. Thanks.

      Thanks for watching! I try to get my filter as full as I can. I've used Mobil 1 for years but am switching everything to Amsoil because of the consistent independent ratings they get.

    oil systems. Learned something today as far as dry sump & wet sump cars. Didn't know there are dry sump systems. Name is misleading to me. Great job showing how to determine which system you may have and how to go about he oil change. I was blown away by the 10 qts for an oil change. I'll never complain about mine needing 4 qts!

    You should remove both oil lines to be extra thorough, IMO. There's another quart or quart and a half in there. We do this on my ZR1, it takes nearly 12 qts to fill it back up again! And it's still not on the max line on the dipstick.

    Altho I know you wanna have the car level or leaning to the front so all the oil comes out
    I mean if you jack it from the front only will enough oil comes out?
    Most UA-cam tutorials they hack from the front , put 2 jack stands and do the job

    • @YellowJacketGarage
      @YellowJacketGarage  Рік тому

      Before I had the QuickJack I did the same thing. There's always some oil left in the system but it's a negligible amount that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme. The most important thing is the regular maintenance with quality products.

    • @Aninebula
      @Aninebula Рік тому +1

      @@YellowJacketGarage honestly I just thought of the no brained thing to do
      Remove the oil, put the oil plug back in
      And drop the car from the jackstands so the oil settles again
      Repack the car up and it should be good
      And what about the drain plug, any washer to replace or do you reuse it every time

    • @YellowJacketGarage
      @YellowJacketGarage  Рік тому

      @Aninebula I never lowered mine after dropping the plug, there's not enough oil left to worry about IMO.
      There's not a crush washer to worry about, just tighten it back to the proper torque and be done.😎

    I've personally made the oil filter gasket mistake on my BRZ and it was comical the amount of oil that shot straight up when I started the engine. Like a geyser. Oil all over the engine bay. That's a mistake you only make once lol.

    Hypothetically, if one these dry sump cars was taken to an oil change facility where the wrench turner is not familiar with these systems, is it possible for them to cause a lubrication failure ? Is there some special procedure other than what you have described or is there some 'gotcha' that could cause oil starvation, even if temporarily?
    This really isn't a hypothetical. This really happened. The question is how, why.

    • @YellowJacketGarage
      @YellowJacketGarage  Рік тому

      Familiarity is absolutely a concern with these systems. I've seen where a Chevy dealership hydrolocked an LS3 because their tech was clueless.
      In that case the tech assumed a non dry sump car was a dry sump car and added the 10.5 quarts. I would be concerned the opposite would be the issue with a dry sump car by only adding the 6 quarts instead of the 10.5 back to the tank which absolutely cause a starvation issue. Just because it's a dealership doesn't mean they automatically know what they're doing.
      The C8 LT engines are no different except its a single plug but still a dry sump. The change procedure on those can be tedious but if not followed could be easier to screw up.

    Not sure if you address it later in the video, but why are you using 10w-40? Isn't that a bit thick?

    • @YellowJacketGarage
      @YellowJacketGarage  2 роки тому +1

      No, I don't address it but the reason is the cam/lifter/spring package has higher spring pressure so they heavier oil was recommended by the engine builder to help prevent wear. It has the 525 hp package done by 21st Century Muscle Cars in Dallas.

    So ~11qt's since you prefilled the filter?

    • @YellowJacketGarage
      @YellowJacketGarage  2 роки тому +1

      10.5 all in and then run it through the warm up process and recheck. There is a little wiggle room but I typically just use 10.5 quarts including the filter and save the half quart for next time or if I need a top off between (I've never had to top off between oil changes yet). • @YellowJacketGarage

      Cam and springs exert a higher pressure so the 10w40 was a builder recommendation so I'm sticking with that.😎 As for which plug, it makes no difference. C7 is the same way but on the C8 they combined both drains into one plug. Thanks for the question.

      Thanks for your reply. Someone said the dry sump was only offered on 2010 grand sport. I don't really need the big block as the LS3 would be fine for me. But are there other years the grand sport came with duty sump.

      @@davetee116 ok, as promised, here's the answer. All manual transmission C6 Grand Sport Corvettes have the dry sump oil system except convertible cars as none of the verts have dry sump. That runs from 2010 to 2013 so as long as you buy the manual transmission Grand Sport targa roof car it should have the dry sump with the LS3. • @YellowJacketGarage
