You know I'm glad Gantu was given a redemption arc through out the Lilo and Stitch franchise. He may started out as the main antagonist of the first film but he becomes one of the few Disney Villains ever to be redeemed. Speaking of which when will you do a Full Story for Iago?
Thanks to lilo and stitch who turned gantu from bad to good just like they did to every experiments hamsterville reigns as a threat to the galactic federations has come to a end and gantu went from being a stealer and a villain to a hero and a helper now everybody gets rewarded
i remember a fanfiction that explained why gantu served hamstervile, namely hamsterville had his adoptive daughter captive. it only had three chapters, but it was good. but this makes perfect sense.
I always felt sorry for Gantu (when I wasn't laughing at him). I saw him as somebody who truly wanted to be good, but got lost and needed help. Amnesio is one of my favorite episodes/experiments because it showed Gantu's softer side and who he could be. Splodyhead shows him trying to justify his actions of working for hamsterville, by calling stitch evil. In Finder he jumps at the chance to get his job back at the galactic federation. Proving he did have good in him somewhere, maybe even in his foot.
I remember always liking his design and some other element of his character, even as a kid I mostly felt bad for him because he though he did bad things he always tried so hard and would ultimately just be berated and get the short end of the stick. I think he was one of the first morally grey characters I could recognise. I loved the idea of him being a cop so much, but I never saw the end of his arc. I'm glad he was redeemed, I hope his character got to live a happy life.
Lilo and Stitch the series was underrated. Especially the character dynamics and voice acting. There were even some pretty powerful moments in some episodes.
Stitch escaping was a good thing as it did give a better chance at life for Gantu if u think about it. All the events that happened afterwards changed him for sure. His father raised him with a strict ideology to never trust anyone. He wasnt a social bee in school trying his best to appease his dad. Being around Lilo and Stitch themselves changed him for sure as he became less hardened in the series and more sentimental and more friendly.

Thank you for this analysis. I recently began rewatching the series. Only a few episodes in I realized that Gantu was not a bad guy, just a tough guy in the wrong line of work. My favorite moment was when he decided to do a Hula dance for an audience and ignored his duties altogether, because it just felt so good seeing him put his own happiness in front for a change.
9:34 And then they backpedaled his entire arc with the Stitch Anime having him & 625 realign with Hamsterveil & somehow after all of that ended up captain again in Sitch & Ai despite the former show ending with him & 625 apprehended.
@@da-vidcargill4975 Well that's admittingly a bit of a shame cuz despite not really caring for how it handled Gantu & Rueben, I did like how they fleshed out 627.
Stitch and Ai takes place before the Stitch anime. To be honest despite the regression of Gantu, I quiet enjoyed the anime. An interesting fact about the Stitch anime is that in the Japanese dub there are no references to Lilo and Stitch in the first two seasons, that’s because it wasn’t originally supposed to be a sequel but a reboot, the English dub changed the dialogue to reference the original series and then during the production of the third season that it was decided to retroactively make the series a sequel to Lilo and Stitch.
I'm fond of the anime but even putting aside the question of whether it was supposed to be in continuity with the Hawaiian story, Gantu really does get the worst treatment as a joke character there. Though funnily enough it's in the third season where the original japanese story decides to connect back to the series, that Gantu gets a degree more competency and brains back. He more or less seems to have given up and barely shows more care than Reuben with Hamsterviel being more subjected to slapstick due to Delia.
Well, Gantu definitely had some form of humanity and a sensitive side, in spite of putting others at risk, especially Lilo, Victoria and Mertle. But at least Lilo and Reuben attempted to bring the best out of him. Too bad he went back to his evil ways in the anime. Funny how his head was more pronounced during his graduation and that he mentioned he wore braces at age 13.
Gantu is the perfect example of what happens when a crisis reveals a person's true character. His redemption theough siding against his abrasive boss truly was a mark for him.
This is why Gantu just charged into the #3 spot on my list of Favorite Disney Characters. That #2 spot belongs to Mortimer Mouse since he's deserves love and time in the spotlight. And that #1 spot goes to Pete since he's the eldest Disney character. Gantu doesn't deserve the anguish and misery that he's been getting, especially from Hamserveiel. I don't why Gantu and Reuben put up with him. All he does is treat them like they're worthless to him. In the Leroy & Stitch movie, Gantu and Reuben got the last laugh when they got promotions and Hamsterviel along with the army of Leroys were sent to prison where they belong.
I’ve loved the content you push! Lilo and Stitch content is always my favorite and you’re one of my favorite Disney content creators aside from Disney Dan and Adam the Woo. But so proud of your tenth year milestone. Keep up the great work :)
Thank you for making this video! L&S the series is such an underrated program, especially since it’s a huge wellspring of character lore and development. Gantu being fleshed out wasn’t something I expected, but something that I appreciated, even to this day. Kevin Michael Richardson also gave his all in his performance, to where you can tell he had a great time in the booth. One day, I hope to be able to ask him or Rob Paulsen about their tenure with the show. Looking forward to the Reuben video as well!

He's always been my favorite character in lilo and stitch. ♥️😆 Had a childhood crush on him and never really saw him as a bad guy. He legit was just doing his job.😤
When I first saw Lilo and stitch, the film, literally always considered him to be the main villain. But then later, when you watch the TV show, you realize that he’s actually not as evil as you thought he was. I mean everything he did was wrong, but in all fairness, he literally had no good life growing up it’s not until later on he finally realizes he belongs on the side of good yet best part of it all as he got his job back. He wasn’t fired or anything he was just retired which she was finally called out of retirement, which I personally can’t blame him. He finally got his job back in the end and had 625 as his right hand man.
Congratulations and thanks also for these biographical explanations, detailed analysis and chronologies of this wonderful world of Disney! Incredible biography of such an intergalactic colossus! He really had a high emotional background! I loved how they developed their existential arc, their motivations and their path of redemption! Especially great motivating example of self-discovery, social interaction and personal appreciation!
For a strict, callous, and irresponsible half whale half elephant alien captain Gantu sure has a lot of pain all his life and he just would not catch a break.
One thing that I really dislike about this franchise is how little dignity it gives to it's central villains. I really wish Gantu and Hamsterviel had been treated less like pushovers, and more like genuine threats, as it would have made Lilo and Stitch's victories against them feel so much more earned. It works in the first movie, since the first movie wasn't about that. But I always felt like the show and later movies were really harmed by the fact that Gantu was so sad and easily defeated. Like, if Spider-man was pitted against a bumbling schoolyard bully for most stories, and only fought an actual supervillain once or twice, then Spider-man's stories and Spider-man as a hero would become a lot less interesting. Gantu and Hamsterviel have that same effect on Stitch.
I had no idea Gantu is such a relatable character for me. And in polish version he has the same voice actor as Severus Snape from Harry Potter which adds it all up🖤
Lilo always found the right place for experiences but 625 already found his home on his own. Even if Gantu wants to admit it or not 625 is his best friend and they belong together as a dysfunctional team.

Poor Gantu, I haven’t realized how broken he was with his childhood and his life story. All he wanted was find a purpose in life and doesn’t want to be abused by Hamsterviel. I’m happy that he got the redemption that he so desperately wanted from all pain he has been through and getting his job back.
It is a shame that the Stitch! anime made Gantu a bad guy again by making him get fired from the Galactic Armada for doing a bad job in karaoke and having him rejoin Dr. Hamsterviël's side.
If you think about it Gantu is not really villain, i mean yes he did abducted Lilo and Stitch, but he only did that because the grand council women told him too, he was just a soldier following orders and when the grand council women catched stitch and found the good in him, she fired Gantu and throwed him away for doing his job, and than Hamsterviel took him in when he had nothing, and forced him to hunt stitchs family for years, while he has been rotting in prison, and Hamsterviel who is more evil than Gantu, has always never gives him credit for doing his job and has always been a terrible boss and bullys him and calls him names, so really he just a misunderstood guy.
Hi there, best Isaac Carlson! 😊 I have seen all your videos in this playlist of videos about Lilo & Stitch, although I have not literally watched them completely yet. But anyway, as I see it, people like you, who care and know this much about the fantastic Lilo & Stitch series, are extremely hard to find, which makes me even more happy to find you on UA-cam, and even more when you make this fantastic video about my favourite character from the Lilo & Stitch series, Gantu. I just watched this whole video from beginning to end, and you have no idea how much I understand how Gantu feels. Gantu is such an awesome character. He is relatable in many ways, he looks cool (looks like a cool dark grey whale-like alien) and he talks cool with a cool English voice. Now Stitch and Gantu are enemies until the climax of Leroy & Stitch, but they would fit so well together as a team and friend duo who truly like each other, and with Lilo, they would be so amazing as a team and a friend TRIO who truly like each other. But in the L&S show with episodes, there are unfortunately barely any segments at all, where Lilo, Stitch and Gantu cooperated all three, except the two very short segments in ”Splodyhead” and ”Sample”. I also know in ”Dupe”, where Gantu tells Reuben about his tragic childhood, and then gets four fantastic friends, Plasmoid, Heat, Thresher and Hammerface as a fantastic quartet. I personally call that quartet ”PHTH”, which are the first letters of their names. PHTH is such a fantastic quartet, and they would be so amazing as my friends in real life, and I would like to see so much more of PHTH as a quartet. And Isaac, I think you say that Reuben is a true friend to Gantu, but I cannot really agree about that, since Reuben constantly mocks, teases and makes fun of Gantu throughout the show with episodes, and sometimes even bullies Gantu together with Hämsterviel, so then Reuben is not a true friend to Gantu, but an annoying friend. Although Reuben is a true friend at the end of Leroy & Stitch, when he motivates Gantu to become a hero. Anyway, Lilo and Stitch often try to be kind to Mertle, help her out and be friends to Mertle, although it never pays off with that Mertle becomes kind against them. However, Lilo and Stitch are always so mean and ostracizing to Gantu. For several reasons, it would have made more sense if it had been the other way around - Lilo and Stitch had tried to be kind to Gantu and motivate him to turn against Hämsterviel and join Lilo and Stitch’s side, and NOT do kind things to/for Mertle. And one other thing, I love it when we get to see a pretty female of Gantu’s alien species (young Cinta from the school year book in ”Wishy-Washy”). Now maybe I sound like Pleakley, but Gantu’s alien species and home planet is so fascinating. And also, speaking of Cinta - was she really Gantu’s girlfriend? That never appears clearly. I think she was rather just a love interest for Gantu, that Gantu was unhappily in love with. (Gantu was in love with Cinta, but Cinta wasn’t in love with Gantu back.) And one last thing, dear Isaac, you should also make a video like this about Dr. Hämsterviel. He, his backstories and his alien species are fascinating too. I would also love to see a pretty female of Hämsterviel’s alien species, who Hämsterviel falls in love with, and how Hämsterviel would act then. Thank you in advance, so much! 😊
That's a great story about Captain Gantu, Isaac. I liked it. I have a request for you. Have you seen Mighty Ducks the animated series? If you have, I'd like to the full story of every single character from the show. Have a magical day.
This is yet another reason to ignore the awful Stitch! anime (especially the English dub). Years of Gantu’s character development down the drain with that show’s insistence on being a continuation of the original series (again, especially in the English dub). In the anime, including the original Japanese version, he’s portrayed just as a dim-witted, brawny grunt rather than a complex and conflicted individual.
Completed timeline theory (which is likely wrong, but solid enough for headcanon) Buzurg (old Buzz from the movie) went to a future in which the Robo Zurg (originally made by Buzz's evil father as a suit, which was taken over by a rogue A.I. resulting in the cartoon series) had been decommissioned by cartoon Buzz, Buzurg reactivated the suit to try to figure out how to use the technology at which point the rogue A.I. reactivated and used subliminal mind alteration to align Buzurg with the evil motive of "conquer the universe" and did so by gradually convincing him that the evil plan was the only way to accomplish his own goals. Thereby giving Buzurg a very poorly thought out plan that he no longer had the mental capacity to see the flaws in. Thus all 3 Zurg backgrounds are canon. First Zurg was Buzz's father, then a rogue A.I. which took his father's name, then Buzz from another timeline... it makes at least as much sense as Buzurg's plan (low as that bar may be)
This makes it all the more sad that Gantu went back to being Hamsterviel's henchmen in the Stitch anime after being fired from the Galactic Federation again for the stupidest reason.
@Isaac Carlson This is a very sad story also I just rewatched Lilo & Stitch and found that Lilo & I are the same person. We’re both autistic, we never had friends when we were young, and we both found a friend on our own

If you ask me, I'd say that Gantu was more abused by Hamsterviel than his father. No wonder why he joined Lilo & Stitch.
It is a shame that the Stitch! anime made Gantu a bad guy again by making him get fired from the Galactic Armada for doing a bad job in karaoke and having him rejoin Dr. Hamsterviël's side.
His life was depressing, but at least he got a happy ending.
Wow i feel so sorry for him, and it kind of says the continuation screws him over when they didn't need too.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt sad for Gantu. I’m glad they gave him a good ending in Leroy and Stitch. ❤️
I sort of feel bad for him........even if he is just a Villain
He's a misunderstood villain

Hi there, best Isaac Carlson! 😊
I have seen all your videos in this playlist of videos about Lilo & Stitch, although I have not literally watched them completely yet.
(Gantu was in love with Cinta, but Cinta wasn’t in love with Gantu back.)
And one last thing, dear Isaac, you should also make a video like this about Dr.
Gantu is my favorite character
you know the more i think about it Gantu is alot like Squidward Tentales from Spongebob Squarepants.
Sharks like Gantu has feelings
This is yet another reason to ignore the awful Stitch! anime (especially the English dub). Years of Gantu’s character development down the drain with that show’s insistence on being a continuation of the original series (again, especially in the English dub). In the anime, including the original Japanese version, he’s portrayed just as a dim-witted, brawny grunt rather than a complex and conflicted individual.
Disney should make multidimensional villains like Gantu more often.
Poor Gantu, he became the butt of every joke simply because he wanted to be a good soldier, do his job correctly, and follow orders perfectly...
Completed timeline theory (which is likely wrong, but solid enough for headcanon)
Buzurg (old Buzz from the movie) went to a future in which the Robo Zurg (originally made by Buzz's evil father as a suit, which was taken over by a rogue A.I. resulting in the cartoon series) had been decommissioned by cartoon Buzz, Buzurg reactivated the suit to try to figure out how to use the technology at which point the rogue A.I. reactivated and used subliminal mind alteration to align Buzurg with the evil motive of "conquer the universe" and did so by gradually convincing him that the evil plan was the only way to accomplish his own goals.
Talk about King Andias next
Ah yes, the rise of Keith David.
You really should do a video on Reuben/Experiment 625

A sad part
You have to feel bad for him
@Isaac Carlson This is a very sad story also I just rewatched Lilo & Stitch and found that Lilo & I are the same person.
We’re both autistic, we never had friends when we were young, and we both found a friend on our own
