Beautiful Golden trout and the surrounding majestic scenery. All accomplished in a one day adventure, that is covering a lot of territory in less than 24 hours. Btw Oni got some good swimming in (perhaps he was fishing as well) LOL, thanks for the nice vid.
sorry if you talked about this in the video, but can you provide a description of the floating line setup? for example is it just like a 1 weight floating fly line? thanks.
It’s a 7m floating line from Daiwa. I also have a 4 m from Daiwa and a couple others from Dragontail. I tie a few inches of heavy tippet (like 0x-3x) to the tag end with a nail knot. The other end of that little transition piece has a tippet ring to which I tie about 8’ of lighter tippet depending on the rod rating and fish size. Hopefully that makes sense. I could also make a brief video to show more detail. dragontailtenkara.com/collections/other-tenkara-lines/products/daiwa-pvc-floating-tenkara-line
@@tenkaraonthetrailoh definitely a video would be great. i’ve been using 1 weight fly line on my KRC T100 for smallmouth bass (lately to cast foam cicada patterns). i’ve nail knotted a 2 foot piece of 12lb Maxima to it, and then end with a barrel swivel. it seems to work well enough. i’ve yet to try the specialty fixed line floating lines available. thanks again
I’m sure that would work great too. The other little modification I do is if the floating line comes with a girth hitch…I typically cut it off and make a little transition piece of level line from the rod end of the floating line (nail knot) with my usual arbor knot at the other for connecting to the Lilian since I don’t tie knots in my Lilian.
@@tenkaraonthetrail interesting.. on the lillian end i’ve used a perfection loop and some 20 pound fly backing for a girth hitch.. out of curiosity why no stopper knot on the lillian?
Yes. I keep one on my trekking pole. Fresh sign there the week before when I didn’t make it all the way in and I’ve seen bears there before. Black bears and grizz frequent the area.
Do you have any tips for casting that 7m floating line? I tried out a similar setup this weekend on a Zerosum 7:3 400 and it would kinda bunch up at the end of the cast and fall straight down, not giving me much distance. Was using a 7m floating Tanuki line w/ 6' of 5x tippet and a size 10 brass beadhead on the end. Would adding a slightly weighted indicator help get the line out further, or is it mostly user error?
Adding an indicator makes it a bit more clumsy actually. It requires more of a pause on the back cast for me to give a little time for the line to load the rod. Also make sure you are making a clear stop on the forward cast to let the tip do the work (stopping a little higher perhaps…don’t let the rod go forward to parallel with the water). Also making a slight “oval” cast can help keep the rod loaded rather than straight back and straight forward (and can prevent tangles).
Nice hike, thanks for sharing.
Thanks

I always take my rods apart for cleaning and I don’t like tying and untying knots in the Lilian.
Did I hear bear bells?

@@tenkaraonthetrail, pretty fish.
Thanks. I would’ve liked to have caught a few more.

@@tenkaraonthetrail Gotcha. Thanks so much for the advice. Sounds like I just need the practice and technique refinement. Appreciated Kris!
You bet. Good luck!
