You're doing amazing work Austin and watching this series I realize two things. One, I can see why so few (if any) attempt this swap in the 1st gen Tacoma. It's a lot of work. And two, I can see an opportunity for you to design a kit to make this a much easier job for others, especially for those without your skill level. When I saw the motor mounts being built was when I finally said to myself there's no way I would do this swap- even though I need it. Even though I know it take a lot of time to film your work, you should have made a copy of all those custom parts and then work with a machine shop to produce them in bulk. There are 100's of thousands of these first gens with the 2.4/2.7 that need this kind of power but want to achieve better fuel mileage.
A new receiver/dryer is a good idea. Don't install the new one until everything with the A/C is back together for the final time, otherwise if it's left open it will absorb moisture from the open connection. While you're at it, install all new o-rings so you don't have to worry about leaks.
a piece of old rubber , intertube , at the bottom of the inter cooler right across ,, and the same bottom , and top of the aluminum block holding up the transmission is a good idea . nice work Austin ....
I did the manual swap on my 02 4 door and there was only about 1/2"- 3/4" space between the trans and floor pan. It's tight enough that it's a real pain to get tool in there to do anything. Keep up the great work!
I spent decades cutting Aluminum....it cuts easy...any Carbide blade in a tablesaw/radial arm saw / miter saw will cut it like butter...use a blade with lots of teeth ( 60+ minimum 80 + is better ) some cutting fluid or grease stick for alloys helps keep it cool and prolongs the blade....you can cut Aluminum on bandsaws and use Routers ( hand held ) or jigsaws.... Clamp the piece in chopsaws as it grabs ( safety )....watch for chips so wear eye protection ... It is easier to cut than steel..and Holesaws go through it easily....
You should check if so little room between radiator and condensor is not going to mess up the flow and thus the cooling efficiëncy. Not saying it will but just to be sure.
Which way does the motor rotate under load and torque? Might want to make sure the room under the heater hose enough if you launch and the motor twists the vacuum pump up into the heater hose
Do you think I can fit a Cummins R2.8 in a 83 Toyota truck? Idk sounds like a fun project Great video love your content You should run a set of 285/70/17 nitro trail grappler they are a very good tire
A great series, could be converting a 4Runner 2WD to 4WD. Not a lot of videos about it, and the 2WD are usually less expensive and in more mint condition.
I have a 98 Tacoma, 5 speed manual 4wD. Basically the exact same truck. I however have about 1 inch of clearance between the top of the tranny and the underside of the floor. Not sure why yours would be twice as much but 🤷
Still cant figure out why on earth people use the PD engines as conversion engines. They were absolutely terrible in VW's. I mean, do they not research this stuff beforehand?
Yo Austin you need a bigger hammer my bro like a 4 pound gimpy hammer But as usual getting it done like a pro wheels and tyres are going to absolutely transform the pre runner that's the part im looking forward to the most
You have the most patience of any mechanic I’ve ever seen. You are the example to follow.

Man you do some amazing work, the whole motor swap looks like it came from the factory
Thanks!

You do some really cool builds.
your fabrication skills are amazing, great job
Thank you very much!
I can"t believe you have so much room in front of the engine! looks great!
i am looking forward to seeing the motor run and you drive the truck.
For a minute there I didn’t think you were going to “spice up” the new lower condenser brackets, but like always you came through.
Your work is amazing Austin ! It look like factory ! Greatings from Quebec.
That body lift would give you al the room. Tires, trans, engine , hood. Will make future repairs or mods easier.
Yes im thinking i need a 1" BL
@@austinniemela hockey pucks work great. Roughly 1” thick and are unaffected by hot or cold. Cheap if you get the practice ones
@@frediefarmer please do not do the hockey puck lift
Nice build. Stock height sleeper. Never f... with perfection.

Looks awesome man !!! Front end looks amazing. Keep it rollin......
Nice job, how many year do you planing to have this pickup?. In my country is difficult to get the spare parts to make it same .
I check everyday for a new video. Nice job . Keep rolling em out . Us yota freaks aren’t going anywhere.

And chance you will replace that oil pan you beat in?
Coming along, great job, everything looks stock
Liking the toyo truck build I'll catch ya on the next one

I have thought about this!
@@austinniemela sweet! sometimes I forget the little things which turn out to be a lot bigger when you get the end! Loving the progress Austin!!
YOU R AMAZING BRO!!!
Was just hoping the claw hammer would somehow come into play . Bob Vila ain't got a thing on Austin !!
My transfer case measures 1.25 inches from the trans tunnel. measured from the very back of the transfer case where those 2 top bolts are.
Thats quite a bit comparing it to my 91! I probably had 1.5-2" of clearance!
Well done. Waiting to see more
Thanks!!
@@austinniemela But the red truck stay the best😉

There is a guy in England that put a cummins 6bt in a montero sport, so I'm sure you can. He only needed a 7 inch body lift to make it work
Wicked work man!!!!!!
You are definitely a Picasso of Toyota’s…great vid as usual!!
Thanks 👍
I have a 2002 extra cab with 5 speed and can fit two fingers between the transfer case and body
Thanks! Mine seemed to have a bit more!

I'd love to switch my 91 base model 22re to 4WD
@@jonbayer3436 let's hope to see a video series similar to that.
sponsors? where are you? this guy is doing some fantastic work
This is a nice build
I can't wait until you make custom bumpers for it
God bless you Legend 🙏🏻
Amazing progress!
Thank you!
Use bar soap for aluminum. Keeps cutting tools from getting “gummed” up when the aluminum starts getting hot
Ill try that next time! Thanks!
Nice work!!
As always,👍👍.
I love this build 👊
Thanks!!

Bet your fuel line works now that you raised the backing of the motor up
👍👍👍
I have one question sir. Did you learn all this from tech classes?
yes more videos. Im on day 5 with covid, this will be a good pick me up.
Here's hoping you feel better.
Good work
