  • I unbox the top of the line gear from W&W Archery for 2023. The ATF-DX 25" Riser and MXT-XP Long Limbs are quite the combination of stability and punch but KILL vibration after the shot. This is one of the best if not the best aluminum riser from Win&Win Archery.

    Have been shooting MXT-XP Foam limbs in an ATF-X riser for a week now. Previously MXT-10 in identical length and poundage. The first thing I noticed, the limbs were super tight on the limb bolts. At first would not slide in at all. With some manipulation finally went in. And I expect (hope) will wear in with use. Second difference , the new limbs are slightly longer. Using the same string as for the MXP-10’s brace height was a full half inch higher. Have had to go to a slightly longer string. Lastly, agree the limbs are super quiet out of the box. Actually whisper quiet. However the sound and the vibration after a few hundred shots definitely changes. Louder and more low frequency vibration. Still pretty good but would take care comparing a brand new setup out of the box with one that has been shot for a while. It will change over time.

      It is very likely the string that change, not the limbs. Even if the varnish and outer finish set a bit.

    At the end, you mention you're looking forward to a 27" riser for use as barebow. Is there some reason you want that size (rather than, say, 25") for barebow use? Perhaps you mentioned it in your barebow tuning series, but I don't recall that point. Thanks for your fine review, and for any help with this question!

    Hi Jake! That is a work of art! Though I would replace those plastic bits in the pockets! Hey, I don't like plasic!
    My generation learned that the primary difference between wood and foam is that wood changes with the conditions, foam doesn't! One of my friends, Keith Muspratt, was practicing and every shot he gave his sight a tweak! Keith was an incredibly laid back guy, and I asked him why he kept fiddling with his sight?
    And he said that as evening was coming down and getting cooler, his sight mark changed! A little while later he turned up with some new Yamaha foam limbs?

  • @mirror1766

    How do you sort the difference of being weaker from not shooting much lately compared to impact of heavier limbs? Noticed less of the video spent time saying what you are going to do instead of just getting on to it happening seconds later and seemed to have less of the filler word 'so' compared to what I've usually noticed which are both good as it helps keep video on track to getting right to the point. Haven't had a 'good' riser in my hands to look at but wonder if limb bolts here and on the Sanlida have limb bolts that end more flat/rough instead of rounded/pointed and smooth changing how they impact against their locking bolt to spin unless held. Wondered if lubricating just that impact surface could help get desired results. Thanks for sharing.

    damn 60k now, nice man :) I started out shootign recurve but had many years without because the guy I shot with moved. Then started again a few years ago when you had like 12k subs but then shot compound because the guys I'm shooting with are hunters. But I really like the olympic recurve style and it's nice to have some variation so also recently bought a horsebow.... Now, Could you make a video showing off what you believe is the best olympic recurve setup and why you think so? I like buying whats considered the best so I have confidence in my gear and know that if something goes wrong its because I suck :D Whats your favorite riser/limb combo, go to sight/clicker/plunger and stabilizers etc. keep doing your thing, love seeing you grow and someone whos passionate and knowledgable spreading knowledge :)

    I recently got a ATF-X 27" because the ATF-DX 27" won't be available "for quite a long time" according to W&W when I tried to order. Kinda of regretting not holding off now. Looks like some good changes that W&W's advertising hasn't shown. I don't like the grip on the ATF-X but have a R-Core I Am Recurve wood grip coming any day now to address that. The new W&W grip looks better, more Hoyt like with the flat palm. My ATF-X had the same limb bolt fit with my limbs which is good. My ATF-X tuned incredibly easy with very minimal adjustments to get the bare shafts landing close enough for me. Literally just aligned the bottom limb a tiny bit, adjusted the rest and even the Beiter plunger amazingly was spot on for the centre shot new from it's box. After that tweaked the nock height and that was it.

      I wish I had identical limbs with a bamboo core compared to maple but it doesn’t exist right now. My interest is in comparing two identical limbs with the only change being the core material.

    I finally got the riser and shot some 100's of arrows. I like the riser a lot but dislike the grip. The grip pivot point is too close to the arrow shelf, and the grip is way too thin on the top side. So, it pushed/pinched my tendon between thumb and index fingers really hard to the point that my index finger is numb. I am not going to use the riser until a custom grip arrives.

  • @dustydustydusty

    Also though somewhat unrelated. Not expecting a direct answer.
    Plunger springs. Do more turns over the same length mean more tension? As in one has seven and the other has nine. Both feel same. Not seeing any difference in tuning. Probably a no-no but thinking about stretching one of them which I have two of to see.
    Plus my new foam limbs are totally destroying my old target block.

    • @typhoon2827
      @typhoon2827 Рік тому

      Good section in The Art of Repetition by Simon Needham about plunger springs. Excellent book regards tuning your bow. That said, correctly matched arrow, adjust limb bolts to get bareshafts together with fletched at 30m, medium spring, medium setting, adjust centre shot with walk back, shoot your arrows and forget about a couple of clicks on your button; the variation in your shot will always be greater than a couple of clicks worth of spring tension.

    Hi! These past few years I've been shooting with an ATF riser with 38 pounds limbs. I recently bought an ATF-DX riser and ran into a problem. On the ATF grip, the tiler bolts still had room to tighten and my limbs were close to 40 pounds with the screws all tightened. With the ATF-DX riser, with the tiler screws all tightened, the same limbs (and arrows) barely reach 38 pounds!! No room to increase poundage!!

    • @JakeKaminskiArchery
      @JakeKaminskiArchery  Рік тому

    I don’t get Wiawis tiller bolt protocol. Manual says don’t turn bolts more than 2 turns either way from factory settings but, doesn’t tell us what the factory settings are. If you assume ‘factory settings’ are what you get out of the box, what happens when you’ve tuned a little? You’ve moved away from ‘factory settings’ to tune your arrow spine and can’t remember where the hell you are? Hoyt’s system is dead simple; max 6 turns out from all the way in - you get lost, just go all the way in and start again. Am I being dense?

      The new DX risers have stops on the limb bolts. Should be 5.5-6 turns out max from that position is the range.
