    I use a pocket radar similar or identical to that one for my son's baseball pitching. It's only accurate if the ball is traveling roughly directly towards or directly away from it. The greater the angle of travel to the radar, the more inaccurate. The best place to put it is either held high directly behind the server or behind the net in the direction that the serve is going.

    • @IntuitiveTennis
      @IntuitiveTennis  2 роки тому +2

      Ok i will try that. It’s really inaccurate so far 😩

    Hi Nick just a quick question about your theory on the leg drive.
    Are you suggesting that the traditional kinetic chain where the force in the serve starts with the energy generated in the legs moves through the body and into the arm is incorrect?
    My view of the serve is that the leg drive isn't a jump(far from it), it's more of a store of energy that gets generated as the legs bend and the feet push into the ground which is then released as the legs pushup and straighten that fires the hips and torso and eventually the hitting arm.
    Great video👍

      I have the same comment relative to the kinetic chain. With the back leg coming off the ground i would presume i lose power

    Very well explained. I'm coming to the idea that the whole body is a whip that must be used as so to hit the ball most effectively

    Bravo Nikola...stručno, analitično i logično objašnjeno i to na način da je razumljivo svim razinama tenisača...trener mora biti u stanju na odgovarajući način prenijeti teniska znanja i vještine...smatram da si u tome izvrstan i da je to jedno tvoje veliko umijeće (ali ne i jedino😀). Sustavno pratim tvoj rad i oduševljen sam tvojim pristupom tenisu. Kao nekad aktivni tenisač, a danas rekrativac zaista se mogu poistovjetiti sa tvojim principima, objašnjenjima i savjetima. Samo tako nastavi. Imaš veliki pozdrav i podršku iz Zagreba.
    PS. Lijepo je bilo čuti i koju domaću riječ od tebe i mame😀✌️

    Just wondering the serve lift is determined by the torque created between the upper and lower halves of the body. In that the feeling is screwing down into the court with the lower half of the body from the hips down while the top half of the body shoulders resist.

    I am confused about the difference between "jumping" and "leaving the ground". Is this just semantics? Is this a comparison of jumping forcefully and less forcefully?
    The definition of a jump in my understanding is 1. Knee/s must bend. 2. Knee/s unbend such that the feet leave the ground. So when I hear "passive jump" this must be in contrast with an "active jump". What is the difference? Both are 1. Then 2. Bend knees, unbend knees until feet off the ground.
    Not to bring up Roddick's comments on legs as an authority, but he clearly feels it is very important. There is clearly some confusion. Seems the terms need to be better defined.
    Thanks for the channel and discussions.

    When you serve/jump serve you need to pull your right leg back, not to the side or front like in this video 1:07. When you serve your normal serve leg goes back nicely.

    So Nick it sounds like the legs are essentially a passive platform that stabilizes the upper body where the real power of the serve comes from (raquet drop followed by an explosive whipping action into the ball). of course there is a weight shift that occurs but it looks like the leg aspect of the serve is more in 'simply' a supporting role - correct? (BTW - fun video! cool to see how your channel has evolved over the years :))

    • @IntuitiveTennis

      Legs are important for sure. Passive can be misunderstood. I will keep making videos on this, but in the meantime don’t JUMP

    • @tmass1
      @tmass1 2 роки тому +1

      roddick would say to jump and drive with legs. his coach is rick macci who constantly uploads videos on the importance of jumping and focusing on leg drive.
      nick has a different opinion but everything nick says isn't necessarily perfect

  • @tmass1
    @tmass1 2 роки тому +1

    rick macci would disagree strongly. He's one of the best coaches ever.
    I'm not sure if this is like Nick's forehand where it works well for him but is not ideal

  • @johnwoodstock1893

    However, Federer who's almost dont lean forward and toss the ball on the baseline have such a huge leg drive which make him land on the court .. he's also knowne for get crazy angle... So my point is the more you drive in the air the more you'll hit the ball high , no ? And so the more you should have net Clarence ...

    Oh well, this is another counter-intuitive thing in tennis. A lot of people always use other sports to compare to tennis, but the moment they start doing that they start failing because tennis motion is very very distinctive. This includes baseball throw, and now basketball/volleyball jump, rock skipping, etc.

      I think they do this when they try to be very close to the baseline.
      Like that, they can gain more stability and get under the ball.
