Holly molly! I was looking for info like this to know the capabilities on my Juki. Thanks so much I understood the importance of the needle number when working
Steve that’s awesome and amazing I really enjoyed your tutorial, and I have a Juki coming on Monday, it’s for Christmas 🎄 and I can’t wait to have a go. I’ve brought for sewing 🧵 heavier fabrics so, you’ve just demonstrated perfectly how well this machine works. Thank you so much 😊
Hi! I’m really curious if you can use double needle for this machine? Looking at the double needle designated machine price and thought I could save money just by getting a double needle to use on a single stitch machine instead? 😅
you made a sewing machine test video into a horror movie, the second half I was just being worried about needle break, had to watch through gaps between my fingers
Somehow I overwrote my original reply… I just made a deal on a used DDL-8700 for $450 + shipping (complete except oil and a light). That is with a “modern” clutch motor, But he said he’d put in a Consew Servo Motor and proper belt for an additional $150. Worth it??? I think so. I’ve never even touch a sewing machine before, so I hope it ends up being a decent starter machine.
Thank you for this video. My question is can it sew on Velcro and if you are sewing with leather do you need a walking foot and can you purchase a regular walking foot for the machine. I’m a little confused when I hear a walking foot machine as opposed to an accessory walking foot like on home machines. I went on your site and do not see that as a purchase. Also advantages to the different tables you offer.
A walking foot is going to be better with multiple layers, but we were just showing the capabilities of the Juki DDL-8700H. If I was consistently sewing with more then 8 layers, I would get a walking foot machine. Thanks!
I ordered the reliable 3000SM servo motor from you guys today. I was going to go with the 3/4HP servo motor but decided on the 3000SM because of the UL. In addition of the speed control that you mentioned to me. Can't wait to start working with it. It seems to handle faux leather really well. Reason why I wanted an industrial machine in addition of using layers of fabric with interfacing. Thanks for helping out today! You were awesome answering all my questions.
@@valeriatheall3922 has it worked out for you? I'm debating on that very thing. Examples show plain fabrics but I would be using stabilizers and interfacing. Also there's leather that isn't near as thick as the vinyl he's using. I use different grains of leather for my bags and that many layers of vinyl is still thicker.
Can you tell me what the max thread size you can use in this machine as it comes with factory settings? Also, I know it has a servo motor. How slow can a person stitch with it? Thank for the info.
Max thread size I would use is T90. It is sewn off from the factory with T70. With our new 1HP brushless servo motor it can sew ultra slow. sewinggold.com/product/sewinggold-1hp-8-pole-brushless-servo-motor/
What kind of work are you doing? If you do not need a walking foot and are doing some heavier work, look at the Juki DDL-8700H or DDL-8100eH/X. They are not as heavy duty as a walking foot, but are a step below.
I want for regular use not commercial.... its good on heavy clothing but is it good in very very light clothes or silk material. Is it good idia to buy only for house use... i only stiching my clothes,... but i like this bcz it has platform... i am using singer's portable one ..can you or anyone here suggest me good sawing machine with platform in affordable pice for runig use pls. Thank you 🙏
Hi Aruna. If you are doing light, medium and heavy clothing, you are better off getting the standard Juki DDL-8700. The DDL-8700H will not sew well on light weight material. We have the Juki DDL-8700 here: sewinggold.com/product/juki-ddl-8700/
What does that H stand for in the model name? Ive only seen ddl8700 before. I hate when theres additional letters and its often hard to get information if its some important feature. Like heavy duty or some special capability.
Nice machine. What is the heaviest thread you can run with this machine? 14 layers of vinyl is impressive. Can this machine handle 4 to 6 layers of 7-9 oz veg tanned leather?
It's not quite as heavy duty and is a bottom feed only. The DU-1181N is a top and bottom feed. The DU-1181N has a double capacity bobbin case compared to the standard one for the DDL-8700H.
The only way you can do that is if your motor has a synchronizer/needle positioner. Our Reliable SewQuiet 6000SM has the ability to add an optional synchronizer. sewinggold.com/product/reliable-sewquiet-6000sm/
Can you use this machine to sew 2-4 layers of 3-3.5oz leather? I currently have a Cobra class 4, but looking for something that can handle smaller projects like wallets and garments.
I'm pretty sure it could. I'm not well versed on leather weight, but I have sewn multiple layers of leather on the machine without issue. I would not use the machine to make belts or holsters.
The DDL-8700H has 22 different parts in it that are different from the standard DDL-8700. These parts allow the machine to sew with heavier needles, thread and fabric.
Will this machine sew two 5-6 oz pieces of leather totaling 10 to 12 oz together for our making book bags...basically sewing two gussets 2" x 8" to one piece of leather 23" x 10" on the outside of the seam and thus making a round bottom bag with flap? This could be done in two sewing runs if the machine can handle this. I know a compound walking foot could do it, but they are twice as expensive. Thanks Steve!
The best thing for you to do is send me a sample for us to try on our floor model. I believe a walking foot will be the way to go, but we can try it on the DDL-8700H. If you would like to send me a sample to sew on, email me at info@sewinggold.com, and I can give you our address. Thanks!
I have set up a standard DDL-8700 for quilting, not a DDL-8700H. It will depend on how thick the quilts are. The DDL-8700 uses needles from size 9 to 18, and the DDL-8700H uses needles size 16 to 23.
SewingGold.com Do you have a video on your standard DDL 8700? What is he lightest fabric it can see well, and What is the heaviest material it can sew well/easily. Thank you. 🙏🏻
Upholstery work is best done on a walking foot machine like the Juki DU-1181N or the Juki DNU-1541 series. If you were going to use one of the DDL-8700 line, the DDL-8700H would be the only one.
right on mate! that's exactly the same type of thought we have in mind. will be sweet on patches with velcro stitching, tactical cordura wallets, iff patches, and maybe some leather too.
I have a DDL 8700H and it has been hell. It's a great machine but when I got it the hook assembly was broken like shattered. I changed it then spent 6 months figuring out how to time it and finally last week I got her going and she runs great but sometimes the thread gets stuck. What size needle does my machine use? They sent size 14 and 21. The company I bought it from is horrible and they do not answer
Size 14 to 22 should work, but it would depend on what you times it with. The class of the needle is 135x5 or DPx5. Remember that needle size 14 will not work properly with T70 thread. Needle size 16 and above for T70 thread.
When it comes to Juki, the machines are similar. I can't really tell the difference between the the Chinese made Juki DDL-8700 to the Japanese built DDL-5550N. The specs are the same. The body of the machines look different, but they sew just like each other.
I would not recommend this machine for spandex or knits. Look at the Juki DDL-8700, DDL-5550N or DDL-8100e. www.sewinggold.com/J8100e.html www.sewinggold.com/J8700.html www.sewinggold.com/J5550.html

11:21 some smoke actually appears briefly as part of the stress test. Very strong machine!
You are right. I don't remember seeing that.
Wow! I saw the smoke. That’s a lot of friction.
Great machine, thanks for sharing the video. Greetings from 🇧🇿
Can we please see the capacity of the 8700 regular?
I have this machine and love it. Just wondering, will the feed dogs off a 8700 fit the 8700H
It would be nice to see you adjust the tension and stitch length on this machine. 🙂
So you don’t need to adjust the hook timing after changing to any other needle size ?
The machine can use size 14 to 22 without adjusting the timing.
@@Sewinggold thanks
If I were to get both the standard and heavy duty machines could they be used in the same table? Like could I switch them out for different projects

what about sewing silk & light fabrics?
Not recommended on this machine. You would be better served with the standard DDL-8700.

No problem.
I should add that he’s also throwing in multiple feet, 4 spools of thread, and yards of fabric as a “starter kit” too.

How about leaver I have this machine
Does this machine come with automatic foot lift?
No. Hand or knee lifter.
Will this machine sew up to 1/4" inch leather?
Better look at the Juki DNU-1541 a triple feed walking foot machine.
Pls EMEL 8500 vs JUKI DDL-8700 which one is the best pls??
I am not familiar with the EMEL-8500. I assume it is a clone of the Juki DDL-8500. If it is a clone, the original is always better in my opinion.

Could this handle suede and lamb nappa leather?
It can, but the feed dogs may be too aggressive. Changing them to Teflon would help.
@@Sewinggold thanks. Currently have an adler with teflon feet, looking to add needle feed for lighter stuff which also help with inner linings.
