Honestly, one of the things that warms my heart in this scene is Corny himself. Throughout the movie we see him try to bring new and fresh ideas to the show, such as bringing Tracy on board and suggesting that they integrate the show permanently. When Link brings Inez onto the stage, Corny knows her name despite her not having been on the show before, and he likely knew about her through Maybelle and Seaweed mentioning Inez wanting to dance on the show someday. You can also see the utter surprise and delight in his eyes at 3:59 as he announces her the winner, and the lack of hesitation he has in shutting Velma down, mentioning the side clause in the handbook mentioning that ANYONE can dance for the Miss Hairspray title. Then he announces the best part - the show is officially and forever integrated - and brings Maybelle onto the stage, telling her what she should've been told long before - "This is your time". Love Corny so much

Yeah, except Queen Latifah had only a little part to the song and she didn't dance as much so...
I'm not saying Queen Latifah's history in rap is irrelevant to why she doesn't have a problem to the song. I'm just saying that having a small part and not having to dance much, contributed to her not having to catch her breath to the song, in comparison to the backup dancers, Zac, and Nikki, who had to sing and dance through most of the song.

More than anything, the change gives a subtle shift in giving the populace of Baltimore a real choice in who to choose. Little Inez is a very young child who just wants to dance with the other kids after working so hard. To see that rewarded gives the black characters just a little bit more agency than the original musical needed.

7:18-8:03 is honestly by far my favorite part especially the little details in the ensemble. I love how during that entire part if the dance the dancers are all mixed up like during the jump the race of the ensemble is mixed up then during the lifts there's white guys lifting flipping and dancing with black girls and black guys lifting flipping and dancing with the white girls all in the heat of the moment none of the characters are probably even looking at race they're just dancing and having fun while also trusting each other cause lifting people that high on a dime while sing takes so much strength trust and energy and in the context of this movie it's incredible
