    I live in a 12 story apartment building. I have made friends with one of the people in the office. She cans too. She has the opportunity to be in all of the apartments. It is a low income facility. I am one of the lower income people in the building. I had extra apricots and gave her some (yes I bought them). We talked, she told me I was the only one in the building that was taking food storage seriously. There's over 120 people in the building. I can't tell you how much more abundantly I live than most others in the building. Now I know I have to prepare to vacate my storage to someone else I trust if something bad happens. Dang! It's concerning.

    Well I started this but we lost power and internet. We were under a tornado warning so we went to the shelter. The house was shaking. That shelter is tight for 3 adults and 3 dogs. This is always my biggest fear.

    I always watch your Mo nday Night Live later. Did get to our State Extension Food Preparedness classes this last week. Was really great. Have been canning a few years but new to ferminting foods. They did tell us that vinegar should not be used to wipe jars anymore, just water on a towel. Also that squash shoujd not be canned because it's to dense(I didn't ever can squash).

    • @SuttonsDaze

      Any particular kind of squash?

    • @vidareich80
      @vidareich80 Місяць тому

      They said specifically summer & zucchini squash. It came up because one class member said she pressure canned zucchini. So yesterday I canned 9 pints ranch style pintos & made plain yogurt from a shelf stable milk- came out very good. Thanks for all your advice. I told several people about your safe channel.

    According to the University of Georgia, So Easy to Preserve, Onions can be canned. They need to be Pressure Canned for 40 minutes. If you go to the National Center for Home Food Preservation and search for onions you will find that So easy to Preserve has a recipe. Hope this helps.

    About the fan and your chickens. I made this mistake until an old chicken farmer corrected me. Please put the fan so that it pulls hot air out of the enclosure, not pushes outside air into the enclosure. It’ll work wonders to help cool the chickens down. Good luck.

      If it were anything but a stock trailer I would, but that wont help them. Thanks though. Today they are enjoying frozen shredded zucchini

    With the chicks, put out a large pan, not very deep, put in some ice cubes and shallow water, and let them go wading.

    I'm looking for recommendations please. I love wild rice but have not been able to find any in bulk, only the little 1-2 lbs bags at the grocery store which cost a pretty penny. Does anyone have a resource they can share?

    • @kcemery7533
      @kcemery7533 Місяць тому +2

      @dwbbieorazi,
      I buy from azure standard. 5 pound bags at a time. They have mixes or just wild rice only
      I really like it but I am the only one who does in our house.

    I accidentally canned cooked ground beef without adding the water. It looks OK just a little short on the fluid in the can. I assume it's safe to eat. I'm planning to use it first.

      It wasn't canned properly, I dont assume anything.
